Back in the 70's I had a year out - working in a road gang on the County Council - We had a digger driver called Tom who we dragged out of his cab to 'eye through' the boning rods for kerbs, pipes, fencing etc - After a while we called it 'Tommin Up' - It's a phrase that got adopted in the mainstream somehow - I see your lad was doing it too! - do they still call it 'Tommin Up' ?? 🤠

What do you use for the capping mate
Traditionally you'd use proper capping, on a traditional fence. As this is just a makeshift fence, they might have used a piece of skirting board.
