I have a new property with a tiny pond(probably ¼ to ⅓ of an acre) on it. The water in that pond is black from years of leaves and straw falling in it.
@@BravoSeven do you mean Black Creek, the one that converges with the Pascagoula near Vancleave? If so, I worked doing oil and gas exploration all over that area. I've swam and waded everything wet in that area, and you are correct, that creek ain't called Black Creek because it was nighttime when it was found.🤣. Always gave us the willys when we had to cross it because you just can't see far into that water. The Eskatawpa is also dark stained and fast flowing down in that area. I remember the old bridge on Bloody 98 that crossed it was a highway nightmare 😬 there were big sections of the concrete guardrails missing that had been replaced with sections of heavy chain and cables. That was absolutely the most terrifying bridge I ever remember crossing. I know I'm way off subject here but there was a girl who would cut my hair in Lucedale who prior to going to barber school was an EMT. The stories she told about the wrecks on the bridge and highway were horrific, I still remember some of those stories today. That was 42 years ago...
Having watched Bealys pond from clearing to completion I can only say it’s been an amazing transformation. You should be proud of yourself. Looking forward to your pond build. Speaking of hay. There’s a fellow UA-camr Trevor Bales (his real name) he does nothing but plant, cut & bale hay all day. Trevor would no doubt give you some good advice. Thanks for posting. 🇬🇧👍👍👍
Actually Chris, I don't think any of your subs doubted your work would fail in any possible way. Those who do haven't been paying attention to your past pond builds. Those of us who had complete confidence in you can't wait for the next pond build you take on. We're ever bored, never let down. It's especially awesome niw that you're working on your pond.
I had no doubt about Bealy Goods pond filling up because I don’t think you would have even started that project if there was any doubt. Looking forward to seeing your pond going in and how much and what quality you get out of first cutting of hay on the hay field, be interesting to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks for the tag along video sir, enjoyed it.
When I saw Mr B's version, I thought the outflow would likely straighten itself in time. Your own place is looking great. Done any gold panning downstream of the quartz? 😉🙃🙂
Chris, with all the pond builds, have you given any thought to building a small hydro electric generator to power your house or farm, you have the capability to build up a head of storage water and release to power the hydroelectric generator turbines.
LetsDig18 builds a pond - it will fill, no doubt about it. Minnow was also included :) Great work on a beautiful pond in such a lovely setting - peaceful and serene. Loved the floaties - you might see a man but the boy always lives within.
Sorry Chris, been ignoring you for a while, but forgot just how entertaining you’re videos are! Well, I’m out of hospital now, so there is no excuse for not playing “catch up “. But, it does give me an excuse to do what the doctor wants….. lie down and watch videos. Thanks man, much appreciated, stay well Very sincerely, Rod
Is there any chance the pond could overtop the dam in a severe rain event? I know it is hard to predict never though. P.S. I never doubted it would fill, did not take long either. Over here in the U.K. we get rain run off on the moorland hills it is always brown due to the organic matter in the peat.
Very nice job on the overflow drain. I just installed a 500 foot one on my 1/4 acre pond. My budget for materials was only 2 hunnert bucks, so hydrodynamic design took a back seat to the budget, but it seems like it has enough head to keep itself clean. Time will tell I suppose.
Awesome video Chris 👍 I never had any doubt about your dirt work because if it won't work you say so because that's how you roll. I enjoy your videos because of the honesty and the info you share. 👍👍
Hell, I don't know why anyone would have thought it wasn't going to fill up ?? Myself , I thought it would have been filled up a lot sooner than it was.... Man, your hay field really turned out nice Chris !! just a waiting game now, until all that water dries on up... Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Day Man !! And, On too the Next !!
That overflow makes me wonder about some kind of small hydroelectric unit for charging portable power stations. Like for use on the island or elsewhere on the property.
When I was a kid we had a lake that had an overflow like that we would jump in an let the water carry us an shoot us out the other side of the pipe. Ah memories 🤣

Love your take on the lake and thanks for showing the aftermath on your farm. Question, rather than hay, have you considered silage? The field is gorgeous and I love the sound of the little waterfall. Thank you for sharing.
I think we got that much the last weekend of March. And it took out just about every culvert in Chambers country, Alabama. Not only that but it also caused the nearby city of LaFayette, Al., to curtail water use caused it cut the dam at the city's lake for water into.
Glad we got to see it finally full and the grass growing all around, honestly Chris it couldn't look better what a wonderful area that has turned to be, nicely done.
Tea colored is from dissolved organics. The reddish or orange color we get here in the southeast is from one or two or all three of oxidized iron, manganese, magnesium.
Put a float activated bilge pump in the boat and a solar battery maintainer. You'll never sink your boat again. You already have a trolling motor bqattery. That can run a bilge pump for 4 days continuously. You're welcome.
Seen quite a few comments on both Chris's channel and the Bealy Good channel saying the pond wouldn't fill up. The names weren't names that I recognized as being regular commenters on the channels. Probably people who watched a couple of videos and think they're experts now, lol.

I want to play in Bealy's 'boat toss' game, it sounds fun, I'm not hooking anything up mind you, I'm just there to see if I can toss that bilge pump into his boat.
Hmmm, I’d like a pond. Let’s see, I’ll buy you a Volvo 220, some other toys, and let you film it. Plus pay for your time too. Simple! Oh ya, forgot, I’ll need about a bank vault of cash to swing it. I must have money in the bank, cause I still have checks left. That’s how it works, right??😅
Have you looked at options for permaculture on your property? Flooding the back of that forest every now and then could be beneficial to the local ecosystem

I would suggest building a couple bridges over the inflows, but at the rate the dock is being completed I'm not saying a thing.... LOL OH for the boat do the same thing they do in most areas, run it onto the dock and pop the drain.
The black water of South Carolina is from the grass and algae causing the water to turn tannic, which make the best bream fishing in the country, it's a good thing I don't have a pond like that because I would never get a thing done, you know what I mean, now see the difference between the 5 acre pond and your old pond in the color of the water, I bet there is some big time fishing going on in that pond...
The state of North Carolina wants all swamp land and low lying areas preserved. It you change it any way, you have to provide the same amount of land else where.
It's called tannin, the staining from leaves and organic material.
Like tea!

Good for boilers
Yup, tannin. Came here to say the same thing. Learned this keeping freshwater fish tanks over the years.
Another advantage of a boat filled with water is that it acts as a great theft deterrent? 🙂

We call that water colour BRACKISH, its actually caused by the tannins in the rotting vegetation.
I didn’t think that the 5 acre pond would fill up so quick
Great job Chris. Beautiful pond. Water is flowing like crazy.

That flooded boat and the unfinished dock is a crying shame 😂
Okefenokee Swamp in S. Ga. is dark water from rotted vegetation too - the stain is from 'tannic acid'. Chris is correct.
Boat just needs a Periscope
Nice job Chris!
You know your doing good in life/ business when you can spend some time & get along with your customers like you do.
Maybe two little arched bridges over the inflows would be nice.
The Brown water is from Tannins in Acorns, Trees, Leaves etc. acidic Ph
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 It's good to see the water aerated after the ponds ,, I too like the wind through the grass sound and smell, nothin like it :)
If you think that water is dark, you should see the Tahquamwnon Falls in Michigan
