    I do get my exercise taking care of my lawn. When other people in my neighborhood walk their dogs they come home with a bag of dog poop. When I mow my lawn I have a fantastic looking lawn. To each his own. It seems that everyone on UA-cam has a big fixation on Crab grass. I don't have any problem with crab grass. I also don't have a problem with dandelions. Everyone in my family were farmers or grew up on the farm. We all know about proper PH, healthy soil etc. That helps. He is correct that a lush thick lawn is the best weed prevention. Because my lawn is so lush and thick, what few weeds if any I simply remove by hand as I mow or when I take my evening walk around the yard after supper. Every year I get a soil test, one of the good ones that also test for micro nutrients as well as NPK and pH. I adjust as needed. My ace in the hole that puts my lawn over the top is the use of humate. I started using a product called Black gypsum by Anderson's around the yard at the curb where the road salt gets on the lawn during winter snow plowing. Wow what a great product. I now use it on the entire lawn in the spring. I also apply a liquid Humic, folvic acid in mid summer. The dirt seems healthier and the lawn is absolutely out of this world. I also apply at times chelated liquid iron for an extra green pop on my Kentucky blue grass lawn. The neighborhood golfers tell me that there isn't a course as nice as my lawn. Even the local lawn care outfit ask me for advice and ask if they can park their trucks in front of my house to give the impression that are doing my lawn.

      Fiddleguy....I'd love to see a picture of your lawn. Sounds like it's beautiful!! I'm new at working with lawn care. I wasn't pleased with my lawn people so I decided to read and learn about lawn and soil care so I'm doing it myself. We never get to old to learn. It's educationally and good exercise for me.

      I laughed what you said about them parking their equipment in front of your house!!😊 That says alot about your lawn. Keep up the good work!!

      This is not good information, Tenacity does wonders on crabgrass, which looks a lot like stilt grass. Aclaim is what you should use for stilt grass, tenacity will only discolor it.

    Since this video in 2014 there has been a massive increase in demand for lawn care content resulting in new UA-cam channels about Lawn Care and its related topics. To the point we now have UA-cam influencers getting rich by making videos abiut products they are testing. Of course the influencers make a profit when viewers order using the affiliate links and the influencers often get a case of whatever new product they are testing. This financial bias has resulted in testing videos that are basically commercials for the product often without a single negative comment.
    Today it seems like anyone can create a UA-cam channel with a focus on lawn care and start receiving gifts in the mail from fertilizer companies weed killer companies, lawn mower companies, all based.on greed instead of quality content. Even hats shirts hoses sprayers, sprinklers, stickers.
    The whole thing has gotten really really greed based and is falling away from legitimate education and lawn care science. Instead focussed on selling products to people that they don't need, videos creating the impression that you have to buy this product to have a beautifull lawn.
    I wish more videos were like this speaker...He sounds so much more authentic than the UA-cam influencers of today.

      It's the same way with car detailers. They all compare the newest products to some other product. There are only 2 that I watch and I prefer one over the other.

      All very true. But on the positive side, the people you mention are also trying to advance lawn care methods. But yes they become biased when they sell the products.

      @@chrisimlay3417 May your father rest in peace. I've watched 2 videos on your dad and he was an expert. I took notes on this presentation while watching it just now even though the presentation was 6 years ago. To do a presentation like this helping people or walk a lawn with an individual home owner is a great deed. I see why UA-cam commenters get a bad reputation. Maybe if they spent more time outside making their lawn better than it was last season they'd release that negative energy that way!

    1) I live in NYS state and heard from our ex lawn care program that you are only allowed to put crabgrass control until mid-may how would that be for me than? Why isnt there a just crab grass preventer without feed?
    2) We have a park like lot with weird hours for sun depending on the year when the trees are with/without leaves Would it be better to use Dense shade mix grass seed or will it burn in parts that get full sun or afternoon sun? Our property gets South facing sun. but again we have a lot of trees.

    Wats the point of putting pre-emergent down in May after the crabgrass has germinated?

    • @grassmaster8691
      @grassmaster8691 5 років тому +3

      #1 it keeps the crabgrass that HASN'T germinated yet, which is great. #2, there are weeds that germinate in the fall and you see them in the early spring. A pre emergent in the fall keeps them from germinating.
