As a guitarist I can attest Bob Dylan has a very signature style of strumming the guitar. It has eccentricities and 'signatures' like his voice has. This kid nailed it and most people overlook how good Bob is as a folk guitarist. The fact Tim could be up to speed in less than 5 years strumming snd singing at the same time is pretty incredible and I'll admit I'm a bit jealous.
I just saw it on Christmas Day. Grew up in my early and late teens with Dylan's music. The music is GREAT but it also turned out to be the best movie I've seen in 10 years. Have to go back to Amadeus to see similar quality of a great artist, poet, musician, songwriter. Chalamet should get an Oscar for best acting. After 6 years of study of Dylan (!), absolutely incredible rendition of him and he did ALL the singing and GUITAR live himself looking and sounding just like Bobby!! Astounding. The five or six supporting cast were also all fantastic.
Absolutely. He had him down! My husband and I were very impressed. 😮 We planned for the past several weeks to go see this movie on Christmas Day. It was the best part of the day. I was amazed.
I saw this movie on Christmas Eve- a theater in Seattle was showing it a day earlier than the national release. I love this movie! Timothy Chalamet definitely should win an Oscar for his performance. All the performances were excellent. I plan to see it again very soon.
My husband is a huge fan of Dylan. I just took him to see him in concert this past year. This movie was incredible! There were many times that I forgot that I was at the theater instead of a concert.
Watched this movie yesterday afternoon and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. Timothee Chalamet was just amazing in this role . Thought we were watching Bob Dylan himself. I was even more amazed to hear that he really performed it all live. Fantastic job!!!!
I just saw the film this afternoon, and felt as if I was watching and hearing Dylan; I got lost in the experience. It was transcendent; so moving. I haven't been to the cinema since 2019. Seeing the clips of this film made me want to make the effort. So glad I did.
Just saw Unknown.Hard to believe Timothee did it on his own,,I have been a Dylan fan since the early 60's...awesome presentation lookingforward to a second viewing!!
Appreciate it! Trying to work next year on the packaging a bit more. Kind of like I did with this one where it's a production video but I themed it. We already have 40+ videos planned for next year 😅 Appreciate you watching!
Idk much about Bob Dylan, but I loved this movie. I already loved Timothee Chalamet and his work, but I was amazed at what a great job he did in this film. Chalamet doing all his own singing, guitar and harmonica playing while doing it as Bob Dylan is really impressive! One if my fave movies I've seen in a while.
haha appreciate it! Trying something a bit different with the packaging on this one then I normally do. Seems like underneath it's catching on pretty well. Hopefully longterm it does nicely!
Great review! I saw "A Complete Unknown" on Xmas alone in a theatre half full of people. I loved every minute. I cried, i laughed and was left wanting more! One thing that bugged me at the end ... Bob riding off on his motorcycle. And the words that had to be read on the theatre screen. I would have liked to have seen it end in Nov. 1965 when Bob & Sara wed.
I don't even know who the actor is but he definitely had Dylan down. It doesn't surprise me that it took him several years of studying him either. That's what makes a good actor. He knows he's performing for a prior generation. My husband and I are baby boomers and we're both into music. That's how we met. 24 years later we continue seeing movies like this and appreciate it. All of it. From the cars to the people dealing with screwed up politics. In fact, it felt like it came full circle. The sticker on Dylan's guitar, Fascism...oh man, we're right there again in our 60's yet many cannot see it. Yeah, music speaks loudly. Always has. 🎸 My husband is always playing his guitar and at times I say, "Why don't you just marry it"?! 😊😊
I absolutely loved this movie! Chalumet has skyrocketed in my estimation as a now brilliant actor with an amazing career ahead of him! This biopic took me right back to what was, for me and our entire generation, and dare I say the world, a time of hope, of resilience, of sticking it to the man, of having a voice, and now here we are in 2025 about to succumb, once again, to the powers of an evil and seemingly irrepressible evil in our country! Will there be anew Dylan to take us back to a place of power and hope? Thank you to everyone who worked on this more than Oscar worthy chef d'oeuvre!!
I’ve been watching few of the videos and reviews of this film o UA-cam but was unimpressed with them since most of them don’t even know Dylan and his song to begin with. This one’s the best so far. Kudos!
Timothée Chalamet hit it out of the park for sure - but I was also so impressed with Ed Norton's banjo playing and he really seemed like "peacemaker" Pete Seeger. Kudos to Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez - now that's a really difficult voice to nail. This movie was a wonderful gift to all of us who grew up with Dylan and loved his music; the lyrics are as applicable today as they were in the 60s.
Going to see this tomorrow and I can't wait. As a life long Dylan fan for 60 years I'm looking forward to see how they tell the story of this amazing man and his music.
Saw it last night. I loved it! Grew up listening to my mom playing his songs. Not all of them, but certain records, especially "Like a rolling Stone." "Mr. Tamborine Man" and others. Was VERY impressed with Chalamet, and this was my first time seeing him in anything, well, I heard he was in Lady Bird, but I don't remember him. I could not tell that it wasn't Bob Dylan singing.
I saw the film tonight. Really excellent. Drove over 30 miles to experience it in a really well equipped movie theatre in Scotsdale. The big screen and full Dolby sound really did justice to the production. I noticed it credited Panavision. Was it shot on film?
Holy cow CASH! That was in 2005??!! My husband and I saw it like... yesterday? Lol almost 20 years ago!? Anyway we saw, "A Complete Unknown" today (Christmas), and absolutely loved it!!! We're baby boomers so knew how he acted and sang! After 24 years my husband and I are still together and we met while seeing a band. My husband plays his guitar 🎸 daily and sometimes I ask, "Why don't ya just marry it!?" 😅 I could relate to Bob's women.
This is my favorite Dylan film by far ! It captures the same Dylan vibe I only ever saw once, in a biopic on a woman not even mentioned in this movie, Edie Sedgwick in "Factory Girl." Great Film ! Everyone looks & sounds incredibly like the real people whether its Johnny Cash or Bob Neuwirth. All the actors/actresses did their own singing & playing too. Timothee Chalamet sounds exactly like Bob in the rollout of the credits when he plays/sings "Mr. Tambourine Man." I thought it was Bob at first. He did an incredible job & deserves an Oscar. Highly Recommend It !
I saw the film two days ago and loved it! Timothée Chalamet embodied Bob Dylan. Bob is from my hometown and I lived down the block from him even though I am quite a few years younger than him. When I was eight or 10 he would come home and would practice in his parents living room and my girlfriend and I would sit in the bushes and watch them. We really didn’t know who he was at that time and he was already getting famous in New York. We just thought it was cool to have a band in somebody’s living room. I have a deep connection of Bob Dylan and his music as an old iron ranger. I’ve always loved everything that Timothée Chalamet has done. 💝
This movie was fantastic. As a fan of Bob Dylan I was unsure of the time they chose to highlight but it was so well done. How they unveiled his music throughout the movie to Like a Rolljng Stone. Timmy was simply amazing. I hope he gets recognition. James did a fantastic job here and just wow.
i SAW THIS AWESOME FLICK 3 TIMES. i AM CLOSE TO 79 YEARS OF AGE. mORE THAN A FEW OF dYLANS SONGS CHANGED MY THINKING AND DECISIONS DURING THESE INTENSE TIMES..tHANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH a cOMPLETE uNKNOWN.
Remember when Ed Bradly interviewed Dylan and he asked him why he was still touring in his 70s, and Dylan said, "well, I'm holding up my end of the bargain" Bradly asked whow he bargained with and Dylan said, "the big man, the ruler of this realm and the others" Dylan was completely deadpan and he even seemed at bit reluctant to admit that he made some kind of deal with....? The interview is on YT
Great movie! Informative review! Timothee is amazing. Ed Norton really captured Pete Seeger! (who stopped at my Detroit school to play/singin the gym corner for us kids, 3rd gr)
I enjoyed the movie so much, especially the lead lead singers, that I have been checking out all the covers, all the original performances or short documentaries, interviews, etc. Somebody left a nice compliment today that Mangold is good at this male biopic thing, after all, he helped Phoenix get nominated for the best actor Oscar. I went to see Walk the Line for the same reason I saw Complete Unknown, for the music and the performers sounding like the originals did 50 years ago. Well, smell the roses everybody, Mangold also helped Reese Witherspoon into the best Actress Oscar that year for playing and singing as June Carter! From the moment Reese started singing in that flic I said to myself ''she just stole the fucking movie! I hope somebody who matters is seeing that too.'' It would be wonderfull if Timothee and Monica both got lead Oscars! How did they get Monica, who sings only in the shower, have the power and vibrato and natural beauty that Joan has had since 1960. She is so self assured that she can give Bobby an up yours finger on stage. And she can tell Bobby that he is an asshole when he is being one, and he agrees! Nice touches, and if we know that they found all that authentic 1960s music and film machines they are not going to be having Monica's Joan Baez say something she did not say.
I'm sure the film will be great, but it's worth mentioning that a perfect Bob Dylan film already exists: I'm Not There, in which Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Richard Gere and above all, Cate Blanchett, all play him.
One of my very favorite films! Though, A Complete Unknown was also truly excellent, and Chalamet, like Blanchett, absolutely nailed the portrayal of Dylan. I do agree though, I’m Not There was not only a brilliant film about Dylan, it even really -felt- like Dylan’s songwriting. Not terribly accessible to a non Dylan fan - but for a Dylan fan, I can scarcely imagine a better Dylan movie than I’m Not There.
Loved the movie so much, it was incredible. Everyone was perfect in their roles. Especially Johnny Cash! I know the same director already made a biopic about him but man I would give anything for another with Boyd Holbrook. Doubt it'll ever happen though.
Walking Phoenix as Cash was phenomenal. Let's see how this measures up. Dylan being the most important one of my influences I fear that I would be disappointed by a depiction of a man who's constantly depicting others himself. What role do you want to see Timothy Chalamet in next?
one where he has to come to terms with people constantly misspelling his name.
@peaxoop 🙃
Dune Messiah
Want to see him in Nolan film again or Martin Scorsese maybe David Fincher or Damien Chazelle
Paul Atreides in Dune Messiah
Saw the movie this morning. "I didn’t think I was watching Timothee Chalamet play Bob Dylan. I thought I was watching Bob Dylan."
exactly!! I got lost in his performance
True. Brilliant.
Same
I was blown away by his performance. I was worried it might've been over-hyped but then felt like I was watching Dylan the entire time. So good
As a guitarist I can attest Bob Dylan has a very signature style of strumming the guitar.
I can’t wait to see this movie. GIANT Dylan fan. He’s the face of the 20th century and the creator of electric folk rock. Bobby!!❤

Had really high expectations. The movie greatly exceeded them. Music came across authentically. The characters were believable and relatable.
My husband is a huge fan of Dylan. I just took him to see him in concert this past year. This movie was incredible! There were many times that I forgot that I was at the theater instead of a concert.
A lot of gray hairs in the movie theater. A lot of laughs at the same lines and moments. We all loved it.
Excellent acting by Timothy Chalamet. Couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
I was impressed by how much he looked, sounded and acted like Bob Dylan, great job to all involved in this production.

I’m impressed with this kid’s musical abilities.

Timothee chalmet.....has quickly become one of my favorite actors
Joaquin should have gotten the Oscar for his Johnny Cash performance
Yes!
It was great, but that was Philip Seymour Hoffman’s year. Maybe a TIE would have been best.❤
Wow! He deserves an Oscar! It was an excellent movie portrayal of Bob Dylan!

His name is Timothee and he's the actor of our generation
Great commentary on this beautiful film. The performances - musical and character - are all wonderfully presented from the very first frame.

I hope Bob Dylan like this film.
Tough challenge, make a movie about: see title.
I must admit he was better as Bob than Rami Malek was as Freddie.
But did Elvis really offer Dylan a bugle?
He got the part because he "kind of" looks like Dylan.
Timmy's gotta stop the blow.

Can these biopic films just die out already. They are just drab oscarbait. Such a relic of the mid-00s

Why did they take liberties with facts and timing?
In the movie? Bob Dylan wanted them too if I remember correctly. He wanted a few things in there that weren't true
