  • John begins his Gospel account with a strong affirmation that the Judeo-Christian worldview makes the best sense out of the world and that the Judeo-Christian worldview is the proper framework for assessing whether Jesus was the living God who came into the world as a human being to give life to all.
A 'true' skeptic can't separate the conclusion from the starting point. This isn't true ,say, for a Jew who starts with a judeo-Christian worldview. They at least CAN have a legitimacy the skeptic lacks by definition. The skeptic, therefore, arrives at their 'conclusions' about Jesus by virtue of their atheistic skepticism rather than by virtue of a fair-minded assessment of the evidence. And atheistic skepticism is fatally flawed in its starting point for it fails to reckon with the most obvious features of the world which point to God. Needless to say, I think 'John' is correct and I try to spell out in this video why most Xians are both unlikely and wise not to take atheistic skeptics' wholesale dismissals of John's account too seriously.

I have interviewed many non-believers for the podcast The Divide, where my good friend Drew (a former Christian) and I (a former Atheist) interview people about the deeper issues that divide our culture. No surprise that many of the non-believing are severe critics of the Bible. Fair enough. It should be judged critically, especially its extraordinary claims. Still, a number of non-believing critics haven't, so to speak, watched the movie very 'critically.' This series aims to explain the Gospels directly to non-believing skeptics. To do so, the series will work on two levels:
    1) The meaning of Gospel stories on their own terms
    2) The grounds for why Christians take these stories seriously still today.
