As an "old chopper guy" I will give approval of your chopping! You can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs. I'm watching this as one enjoying my factory Triumph ride. As long as it goes back together, it's all good. I began building custom frames in 95, working with a new "chopper shop" that opened as I was retiring from the marines. Once you've cut it, all that matters is getting it back together. You might have to cut a few times, but you got to do what you got to do, to go forward. It's always scary when you cut away everything you don't want. I'm enjoying your generation coming out and doing what I learned to do, back in the seventies. "It's a family tradition". I ended up having to design and make my own tubing bender and built a couple frames that were junk, but taught me the "hard corners" you have to finagle to get around. Your frame is looking really good, I think it's going to ride very nice, looks really good.
I'm rebuilding a CB750 as my first build and watching your videos really gives me the confidence to tackle the stuff I've never done before. Just getting into welding and seeing you do all this makes my projects look simple in comparison. Thanks for making these videos and documenting it for people like myself.
I don't like to chop up a complete bike. BUT, I have a 74' that is stock. Supposed to pick up a 71 soon. It has a 16" wheel and other "chopper stuff on it. I may chop it. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Just found your channel. Looking to hard tail a 74 140V. I wont cut mine like that. I'll leave the rear motor mount and cut open the tubing to fit the hardtail in then weld a plate from the open tubing to the bottom rail of the hard tail. Plan to use the swing arm bracket to mount the shocks to for a spring seat. Originally was going to buy an early frame and put a bolt on hardtail on it but after seeing your bike and how cool it looks I have decided to go with the original frame for obvious title hassle reasons.
Im sure you can just drop the yokes down the forks, but if not, instead of replacing the springs, just take the forks apart, drain the oil and cut the springs down.
I don't know much about bike builds, but I'm guessing that with the engine in place, it's weight will bring down the ride height... there shouldn't be a need to mess with the triple tree position. Apologies if I'm spouting off about something I know next to nothing about.
Great job! I love this series. I'm not sure if those welds are strong enough to hold like the "heart" of the frame. I will recommend you to reinforce it, it will carry all the weight of the engine and the tank, gotta watch out for that!
The weight is pretty evenly distributed through that backbone. It has tons of reinforcement on the bottom where I welded in those plates. Plus the sleeves on the bottom frame rails help a lot. I will keep a close eye on it but it's really solid as is. Thanks for watching!
Awesome build. I was initially going o build a hardtail bobber, but I realized it'd be too hard on my back. Especially with the way the roads are in Mn. lol. But Tx I'm sure is a lot better.
I'm working on my 71 triumph cafe oif. I just ordered an munit also. I'm using a 4 cell Antigravity battery. I'm planning two dual button Motone switches. as mine is a Cafe Style in wondering where to place the coils. munit instructions say to keep them 30 cms away from the munit. looking forward to your installation solutions.
I honestly think that you should decide for what you want to use it for. Just a city/quick ride bike? Clip ons for sure. They look amazing and feel awesome for short rides. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it's going to look great!
Yeah it's all about practice. I would skip the cheap flux core welders and get the nicest Mig welder you can afford. I have had good luck with my Eastwood units.

brother I need ur help again so since last month everytime I start my bike it will start in one kick but it feels like something is blocking as if like a nose block and gets better when I throttle it up with a little popping sound. but since yesterday its completely dead unable to even start. tried cleaning carburetor and spark it started but it felt like it was completely blocked somewhere was unable to throttle up.and it shutdown and was unable to start again. what is ur suggestion
A quality MIG will do the trick. It's obviously a very structural part of the bike so I wouldn't recommend it for a first time welding project. I used y Eastwood MIG 135 and the bike is doing great over a year of riding later.

Number one rule for holding everything square as possible is to tack all pieces together first then completely weld

I would guess you're right. It looks like its just a bit off so the engine would weigh it down.

Where did you get the hard tail? Are you going to run the stock 18" rear wheel?

Do the carb blades move properly when you twist the throttle? Maybe they are binding up on something. Just a guess.
Classic Octane yes it does today it started properly but unable to throttle up. plus there was part of air coming out of air filter.

It's a David Brid from Lowbrow customs. 4" stretch and 2.5" drop.
