This is exactly why I believe physical media should always be kept alive. I don't like the idea of things just straight-up disappearing and potentially being lost forever because of politics like this.
If this isn't a "call to arms" to all record, CD and DVD fans, I don't know what is!!! The problem with everything today, not just music, is quite frankly Big Brother--i.e., huge companies like Universal are taking more and more control with their artists' output, deciding what will be released when. And don't get me started how Universal has been claiming copyright strikes on material they don't own on UA-cam--you can check other videos for that. So they just get hungrier and hungrier, devouring each and every bit of material they can--all in the name of the Almighty Dollar. I don't at all mean to infer that Universal is alone in this. You just name any major record company or corporation, and they all do it too--for the same reason. THIS IS WHY VINYL WILL NEVER DIE!!! And this is one reason vinyl never completely went away. Yes, you can own physical media like a CD, but an LP is larger and tends to be warmer sounding than a CD (yes, there are pops and clicks at times, but true vinyl enthusiasts see them as part of the vinyl experience--and the sound never completely goes away, either, because of these pops and clicks). Personally, I own both LPs and CDs of the artists I collect. But I have several LPs that I don't have on CD, because I'd rather just listen to them on vinyl. Case closed.
Yes! Censorship is pretty annoying even if it is sometimes understandable. I especially hate when I'm checking out music and I see entire albums aren't available to stream but I can buy them physically.
Michael Jackson constantly changed his albums; some for the single version (ie "Bad" w/o horns) and others for a backlash against questionable lyrics. I hate it when an album is altered even Billy Joel replacing a sax phrase on his "New York state of mind". It was put on a Greatest hits and then the Turnstiles album was overwritten by the new version with not even an annotation that anything was altered. Heck, put both versions on there. Most music though is out of print in physical format due to lack of sales. EA sports actually lost their rights to license MLB games.
I hate when things get censored and it's for the dumbest reasons. Like the example you gave with The Simpsons episode featuring MJ not being available on streaming services, that's why physical media is still great to have because if anything gets censored the original will always be available see or hear
Sadly its been a problem for decades first from the conservative Christiian right and since the mid 2000' s also from the far left (radical feminism/woke movement). Where we finally see a lot of resistance in cinnemma, music and comics; in in table top & video gaming resistance seem to have died since 2016. While before 2016 of all E branches gaming was the one trying to fight it the hardest, but mostly has roled over ever since.
