I know what some people will say but they cannot deny the facts in that this is the most legendary video on UA-cam. It is as old as the video streaming service itself and has been with us since the old ones. Thank you RU for endowing us with such a video!!
i am in love with NOT just the ride itself. the characters, the music, the art, how it looks and the hystory behind it. Thats what makes it all amazing....
Out of all the Haunted Mansion ride-through videos, this is probably the best-edited. Sure, if it's updated with HD footage, it would be perfect, I like the fact that there are no crowd noises (especially during the stretching room scene) whatsoever. It makes me feel like I am actually experiencing the ride!
Even after all these years with all the HD and 4K and VR, this is still my favorite POV of the ride I can find on UA-cam. It almost feels like I'm watching a story within a ride, almost like a movie or something. This was one of the first videos I ever watched on UA-cam back in 2008, and it's still one of the best.
I had this, along with Pirates of the Caribbean and a tour of New Orleans Square on a single DVD. It's crazy how nowadays you can just hop on UA-cam and look up ride footage rather than ordering a DVD.
And this was probably the finest ever made. It was a huge success back when it opened on August 9th, 1969, and had some of the best illusions Disneyland had to offer. Even up to today with all of the new rides being built, it still remains one of the best.
"SHHH....listen" 40 years ago today, aug 9 1969, HM officially opened to the public. Happy Birthday Mansion! your beautiful work by marc davis and claude coats still blows people's minds today!
your haunted mansion video is the one I ALWAYS watch, even if the quality isn't as good as newer videos, mainly because of your opening exterior shots and the nice narration at the beginning. it's awesome and sets a good atmosphere
Now this is a nostalgia trip. I used to watch this video religiously as a kid, sometimes multiple times a day. To say I really love this ride is a massive understatement and it’s so cool to have such a good quality recording of the ride how I remember it as a kid.
Ah this was so amazing, thank you for the trip back into the past. This ride was so much better as the Haunted Mansion rather than the new nightmare before Christmas ride..
Still one of the very best ride-thru videos currently on youtube. Please never take it down. It's good to be able to see the place as it was before the 2005 and 2006 changes.
i went here with a school group and i dont know when i will be able to go back. thanks for you videos it still keeps my dream alive! ( even if things in this ride arent)
Thank you for being so loyal. When this was shot there was no such thing as 1080p (at least at the consumer level.) But this is a lower quality I will admit. I have been thinking of re-releasing my vids in a much higher quality now. Just haven't found the time.
Wow! I haven't been to Disneyland since I was five years old, and I'm 40 now. This is the only thing about Disneyland I can remember, and I remember it vividly. I was obsessed with the ghost at the end who says "hurry back," and it was so great to see her again! Amazing how much I remember.
Another awesome video by ru42! We just got back from Disneyland a few days ago and I was so disappointed that they had the "Christmas" version of the Haunted Mansion. It has been 15 years since I was at Disneyland and I wanted to see the original Haunted Mansion and show it to my nephews and husband. This video allowed me to do this. Thanks again for all your hard work in putting this together.
the room with the growing wall freaked me out and when he said there are no windows or doors i was like oh crap then i started crying ha ha im not good with haunted houses
actually, it's the reason my wife and I are considering travelling across country some holiday season. We love the haunted mansion and go on it every chance we get at Disney World, but they don't do this there, and we'd LOVE to see it!
My most shameful misheard lyric: "Shrouded in a daft disguise" >> "Shrouded in a cat disguise." My brother got the Disney record "Trick or Treat" for his birthday one year in the early seventies. On the flip side was "The Haunted Mansion" with Ron Howard. It scared the piss out of me. Often when going through the HM at DL, I'll intentionally sing the wrong lyric -- "cat disguise" -- in homage to my childhood :-).
Wow this brings back so many memories - I went with my Mom and Dad in 1976 - I was 4. The Haunted Mansion is what I remember the most, probably because my parents bought me the "See, Hear and Read" book with the record in it - I kept it all these years, actually was able to go through this video page by page with the book - so happy to see it almost exactly as the book...thanks for this memory...especially the ghost at the end in the mirror sitting with me and my Mom.....
Thanks, Im going on August 3rd and was want to capture my daughters face on every ride she goes on. Thanks again. Good video by the way, almost seemed like a promo from disney.
TANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!! The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride i ever made but I live in quebec so I can't do this ride every day only at 2 or 3 year so I'M HAPPY to see this video EVERY DAY!!! my dream is to work there!
I LOVE THIS RIDE! I used to be scared of this ride, when I was like 10 years old, but after going on it the second time, on the same day, I loved it! This is one of my most favorite rides in disneyland.
I've only ridden on this once, excluding the holiday version. After that, my gut told me to stay away from that place. But now, after listening to the music in October... I WANT TO RIDE IT SO BADLY.
@ru42 This almost made me cry, in a good way. I want to go on this ride so badly, but as i'm a college student and way far from this attraction, it's probably not going to happen, but being able to imagine it by watching this video is wonderful, thank you!
Thanks so much for this. I once went on the Haunted mansion at Disney land 29 times in a row. Now I live over 2400 miles away, so can't quite get there every year ;)
I went there this past Saturday.. It was soo fun. And this really scared my mom.. i was cracking up.. the thing that tripped me out was how the ghost look realistic when you pass by the dining room..
@starpeep2223 - the best times to go are after New Years but before Spring Breaks in Mar/Apr. May is pretty good. Then again Sept is very good. Oct/Nov/Dec are good if you avoid holidays and weekends. The 2 best months to go are March before Spring Break and September (usually late Sept is better)
This ride is my favorite! I just went to Disneyland yesterday and rode this twice. I really like the Endless hallway and all the creepy pictures around it. I wish they'd let me off the Doom Buggy and walk the ride just so i can explore.
One of my favorite rides! I went to Disney World when I was 12 with my best friend and we were both too scared to ride it. I went to Disneyland this past spring break when I was 20 and now I'm glad I went on it when I was older. I can definitely appreciate it a lot more now that I'm older. The effects are so cool! XD
i absolutely love this ride. went on it last april about 7 times... 6 times during the day and once at night. so much creepier and more awesome at night.
The pipe organ in the ballroom was really used in Walt Disney's film, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". The organ at Disney World's Magic Kingdom is a replica.
this is my favorite ride at disneyland. Yesterday I visited the park and its such a shame the haunted mansion was closed :[ i was really looking forward to it
Once again you have captured every single detail of a ride (which one normally doesn't have time to see being rushed through). I don't know how many times you must've ridden to get footage like this, but thank you so much for your hard work!
RU42, your videos are absolutely fantastic. I am a huge fan of the parks and I am very glad that your videos are on UA-cam. Keep up the good work, and I wish you the best of luck as you continue capturing these unforgettable experiences and uploading them for all to enjoy and reminisce. Cheers, JR
Just great- I recently went and as much as I liked the film "Nightmare before Christmas", I hate that the ride is now 90% decorated with Jack Skellington. Its nice to see the original....
I know what some people will say but they cannot deny the facts in that this is the most legendary video on UA-cam. It is as old as the video streaming service itself and has been with us since the old ones. Thank you RU for endowing us with such a video!!
Indeed, I was making videos of Disneyland in the extremely early days of UA-cam. I am releasing this video in a much higher quality
i am in love with NOT just the ride itself. the characters, the music, the art, how it looks and the hystory behind it.
I just released a higher resolution of this video
Even after all these years with all the HD and 4K and VR, this is still my favorite POV of the ride I can find on UA-cam. It almost feels like I'm watching a story within a ride, almost like a movie or something. This was one of the first videos I ever watched on UA-cam back in 2008, and it's still one of the best.
Thank you so very much. My goal was to preserve the ride. Now everyone has a camera/video but don't take the time to do it right
Me Me me me too You me it's to you do good yeah.
I remember when I watched this all the time when I was 7 to 8. I'm 16 now. So nostalgic.
Same! I'm also 16 lol that's a big coincidence
Omg me too so much has changed
I had this, along with Pirates of the Caribbean and a tour of New Orleans Square on a single DVD.
It's crazy how nowadays you can just hop on UA-cam and look up ride footage rather than ordering a DVD.
I used to watch this when I was 16 and now I'm 23.
RETIRED CHANNEL same I was 9 when I watched this and now I'm 18
This was no doubt one of the greatest dark rides ever created. It focuses on top notch illusions and details instead of pure scariness.
Indeed
And this was probably the finest ever made. It was a huge success back when it opened on August 9th, 1969, and had some of the best illusions Disneyland had to offer. Even up to today with all of the new rides being built, it still remains one of the best.
A timeless classic
The beginning elevator room was pure nightmare fuel when I was little, though now I appreciate its charm
It’s my most favorite part of the ride 😁
I love the way you filmed this, kinda has that documentary vibe to it.
I wanted to preserve the magic
@@ru42 :) nice back again
This ride hasn't changed much in 50 years. Still Very Entertaining! I haven't been to DL since 1998 and this is just how I remember it! Thanks!!
I'm a day late, but *HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY* to this video! So much nostalgia for this version of the ride :(
Rise 😇😇
@@ethantuttle6181 Hmm?
Sebizzar ?
@@ethantuttle6181 Rise?
Thank you
I love how when you're in the elevator everyone who has been there a ton of time will quote the speech word for word...
This video was my gateway into everything Haunted Mansion / Disney Parks. Thank you!
"SHHH....listen"
40 years ago today, aug 9 1969, HM officially opened to the public. Happy Birthday Mansion! your beautiful work by marc davis and claude coats still blows people's minds today!
Absolutely the best version! Great job, RU! Thank you for capturing what I love most about this ride.
My pleasure!
If you are referring to the ball room scene the effect is called Pepper's ghost - it is done with lighting and glass not projectors and mirrors.
This video is amazing! I used to watch this all the time when i was 4!
I just uploaded a higher resolution version of this video
Mee tooooo, i gave you like 1000 views when i was 4 too
your haunted mansion video is the one I ALWAYS watch, even if the quality isn't as good as newer videos, mainly because of your opening exterior shots and the nice narration at the beginning. it's awesome and sets a good atmosphere
I just uploaded higher resolutions of this video (and all the others)
yeahhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhh.
Now this is a nostalgia trip. I used to watch this video religiously as a kid, sometimes multiple times a day. To say I really love this ride is a massive understatement and it’s so cool to have such a good quality recording of the ride how I remember it as a kid.
Candle 🕯 isn’t always sane distance but here it IS as it is again now
It's because of roles like this that Paul Frees ranks in my top 3 voice actors of all time!
all the attractions in disney land are old but legendary.
The best
I'm so happy this one is back....it's my favorite Haunted Mansion video and you went away....don't go again :)
Just re-released this video is higher resolution
Ah this was so amazing, thank you for the trip back into the past.
This ride was so much better as the Haunted Mansion rather than the new nightmare before Christmas ride..
I mean the nightmare before Christmas ride is a seasonal overlay, not a complete replacement. The original haunted mansion is still there
Still one of the very best ride-thru videos currently on youtube. Please never take it down. It's good to be able to see the place as it was before the 2005 and 2006 changes.
Happy 50th Anniversary dear Haunted Mansion! A great ride
A true Disney classic
"Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding." That is seriously brilliant.
i went here with a school group and i dont know when i will be able to go back. thanks for you videos it still keeps my dream alive!
( even if things in this ride arent)
Thank you
The best haunted house story ever told! My favorites are the Pharoh wallpaper, the long hallways, the creaking door sounds, and the cobwebs! Spooky!
It is the hardest ride to video tape. To make a single production I generally have to ride the ride 12 times to get the footage I need.
Does anyone else LOVE Paul Free's voice work as the Ghost Host on this ride? It's so brilliantly grim, it's delicious.
I love Paul Frees
Thank you for being so loyal. When this was shot there was no such thing as 1080p (at least at the consumer level.) But this is a lower quality I will admit. I have been thinking of re-releasing my vids in a much higher quality now. Just haven't found the time.

It is an effect called Peppers Ghost; you can do a google search and find out all about it.
Another awesome video by ru42! We just got back from Disneyland a few days ago and I was so disappointed that they had the "Christmas" version of the Haunted Mansion. Yes, this is Disneyland Anaheim circa 2004 before the latest changes. I have another video in UA-cam that is the more recent version.
Still my favorite version on UA-cam. Thank you. =)
You are welcome. See the new higher resolution I recently posted
Finally, someone catches the duelers in the ballroom!
I love how the ride has this fancy house, but the whole ride is actually in a huge sound stage.
Don't forget X. He was a mastermind behind this too.
Love your video. You did a great job with the audio! It really captured the "feel" of the ride. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
the room with the growing wall freaked me out and when he said there are no windows or doors i was like oh crap then i started crying ha ha im not good with haunted houses
I can't stop watching this video, I just love finding videos like this around halloween time.
I used to watch this video all the time

Thank-you for this recording! I miss seeing the changing portraits with the slow-fade effect (not to mention April/December).
7:22 would be a good time to start playing "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. LOL! I mean, you know?
I frickin love this ride!!! I could watch this video over and over again! It gets me so pumped for HALLOWEEN!
They should make a Five Nights at The Haunted Mansion game. And Maybe Five Nights at The Stanley Hotel.
This is Ryan lol I know
The latter was the filming location of the '97 The Shining miniseries, not the Kubrick film. I'm sure you know that.
Design it
Going there during spring break for the millionth time! I love it!! Nothing better than living in California!

I like how grim grinning ghosts fades in while still following the beat of the attic piano
I wanted a short story movie of each of the images in the stretching room. Amazing.

The last time I went to Disneyland was for Halloween, they added the theme to twas the nighmare before xmas, that was pretty cool.
