I think my favorite part of this whole performance is at 5:11,when you see the cop/security guard just watching in awe as history is made right in front of him, totally ignoring the crowd he's supposed to be superving. That is the power of music. Gave me proper goosebumps

You catch them in New York's Madison Square Gardens at the end of their 3rd tour of the US of 1973; filmed as part of a concert film that emerged three years later. By then their fortunes had changed somewhat, but this captures what it must have been like - even if the band themselves were not completely satisfied with the footage.

In ‘71 or earlier, Plant was capable of hitting notes way higher, and with a lot more power, than what he hit here. His voice was damaged by ‘73 (although Plant at 75% still blows away most singers at 100%). Listen to the studio version of this song, recorded in 1970. He hits notes that are in the stratosphere-unbelievable. But Jimmy Page’s guitar playing in this version is spectacular! And Robert Plant was always really charismatic live. These guys just commanded the stage. But in his prime, up through 1971, Robert Plant’s voice had to be heard to be believed.
