  • A cold and windy winter's day still can't stop Glenn Allen finding good fish in amongst structure.
By targetting snags and structure directly underneath fleeing birds, Glenn could move through the creek being very efficient at finding fish holding water.
Glenn details his techniques and why sometimes, even as a very seasoned angler, you can't win every fight.

Thanks Drew! Your feedback means a lot - Glenn is a fiend with the Bream and I'm always learning from him. I hope to shoot some motor angler profiles like this soon as most other fishos are far better than I am. I'll stick behind the camera and computer

Wind & kayak fishing. I have yet to launch my first kayak but that is only a week or so away. I will be fishing Lake Macquarie & creeks that feed into it. On observation, I would not fish the Lake in winds above 20kmh (about 11 knots) & only a little higher 23 kmh in the creeks. Lower wind speeds may be more prudent? The first consideration is safety & the second is trying to fish effectively in difficult wind & tide conditions. In your experience, what wind speed is the maximum you would fish in Lake & creek? There may be sheltered spots to fish but I am mindful that travel over exposed areas may be necessary to reach them. I would rather not fish & leave it for a better day.

Interesting question himderfella - I will forward it to Glenn to get his more expert thoughts. I personally don't like fishing in the wind, but can recognise that the fishing can often turn on when the weather is nasty. If it's expected for the wind to pick up, I would consider fishing relatively close to where you launch from and also to consider the tidal affect too, make sure you're not battling the tide and the wind to get home for dinner! Whilst it's not in the kayak, we made a video fishing Brisbane waters in some atrociously windy conditions and the fishing was VERY good. Re. wind speeds - I believe the kayak competitions usually cancel around the 45+km/h mark. Looking out the window onto the water now (20km/h) I think today is a beautiful day and would definitely get out there and fish! I suppose it really comes down to confidence on the kayak - start with nice clear days, and work your way up into more challenging conditions.

@@GriftCo Thanks for that. I wat6ched the video & it prompted me to ask the questions I raised. I will err on the side of caution & allow experience & confidence to be my guide into the future. Thanks for your response.
