    Wow great track and fascinating to see how it was put together. Just wondering how you actually created the guitar drones, I mean what were you actually playing on the guitar?! :) hoping for more videos like this.

      Hi thanks for reaching out Richard. Yeah I played all guitars in this one. The drones is basically just me playing very lightly small (highpitched / mediumpitch notes) either just single notes or alternating from root->fifth. It's open voicing so they work beautifully for drones as you can go anywhere (either minor /major) if you would want. It's a very common trick in film music...and any other music. You hear it in pop music all the time too.
      I talked about it briefly in the video I think where I soled the guitar drone and played it without effects. Just simple small note licks. You want to play very sparingly with such deep and vast effects. Let the delays and reverb do their work on top.
      Yeah, I have an album coming up so I might do another deep dive into more tracks from that album. It fun! Again, thanks for reaching out!

    Excellent tutorial, Matthias, always glad to see what you can come up with. You’re a source of inspiration for me, always giving me that push to explore and learn new things about Logic. I mainly write and mix extreme metal stuff but now I’m really tempted to write a post rock song!
    One question, why did you use a synth bass and not simply record that picking pattern with your own guitar? It was quite a convincing sound, at first I genuinely thought you were playing your guitar!

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 років тому +1

      Hi Deconstruct. I appreciate the kind and honest feedback! I am glad to hear you get some inspiration and motivation from my Logic content. It's really wonderful. If you look up my past you can see I also was doing extreme metal back in the 90s. Naglar, Embracing, Azure etc. Still love to listen to it now and then... especially Meshuggah. Post rock and more chill tracks are close to heart these days as I love to play tjat vibe rathet than building on my tinnitus so that's a reason for more clean and mellow music. 😋
      Regarding that guitar sound created with Sculpture as I mentioned in the video. Totally accurate, I could easily have played it by guitar instead. But as you probably know yourself as a producer... We like to experiment and One thing leads to The other and suddenly you created something you could have done in 5sec on guitar instead. Was Kinda silly. But some Times the sound We so desperately is looking for is right in front of us. This was a typical example. Haha. Thanks a million for reaching out. Hope you get a wonderful evening my friend!

    Mattias you should try StryMon Big Sky reverb on guitar, its amazing!

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I know the Strymon sounds amazing. I'm Looking forward to see what I can design with the Zoia and Zoom MS70-CDR. Will maybe do a little comparison too. One is cheap (Zoom) and one is more expensive (Empress Zoia). Zoom has been around for quite some time so I'm intrigued to see how it holds up and how usable it can be when used with guitars/synth/vocals etc. Fun stuff coming!

    Use re-charging batteries, save the planet, haha! =) Oh, I really thought it works without any additional power!)
    Thank you very much for this walkthrough, Mattias, very nice track, like it so much! It reminds me the vibes of chill-out or balearic downtempo music a little bit, maybe it's the weather today, don't really know :) Nice transition for post rock anyway =)
    Nice, that you actually cover all the tracks here - for example, space vocals are of especial interest for me. I tried to record myself for something like that for breakdown of trance track, but still couldn't managed to process it properly, so that was just a arbitrary voice, not mine) I think, it worked to be a part of the whole atmosphere here.
    Of course, guitars are beautiful and actually construct most of the textures and layers in the composition. I like the main music theme, though it's indeed no difficult, but light and easy to remember, still all other parts complement this very well.
    So yes, thank you very much again for showing us another nice track of yours! Hope some of the ideas you've got playing the piano would render to more tracks very soon, beatiful and particularly melodic! Have a great summer vibes and inspiration! All the best for the week ahead, Mattias!

      Hi Alexey, good to hear from you! There are active and passive DI boxes. Active requires battery power obviously but the difference go deeper than that. An active DI box includes a preamplifier to provide a stronger signal and higher input impedance. So I highly recommend going for an active DI-box. ;D
      Glad you enjoy the track Alexey. It turned out well. Very happy with this little guitar based song Medvind.
      Vocals can be very hard to fit and get the processing right. I wanted it to "smear" on this one and glue with the melody. Yes the track has a VERY light and easy melody. No fuzz there. That's often how I like it, as you've seen in many of my videos. I often go for quite easy and light, singable melodies.
      I wrote so many intricate and complicated stuff in the past (progressive rock era) lol.... Glad I'm out of it. ;D
      Yes the piano playing this spring / summer has lead me to build on like 4-5 tracks. Some were old but I gained new insight into the lyrics and approached them with different chord progressions and melodies. It's nice to go back to old lyrics like 8-10 years after and see if the melody stuck or if something else fits. It's really fun. And some of the lyrics are very deep and has great weight to them.
      I feel inspired to write more lyrics this summer too. So much positivity is going on in my life. Very happy, in a very good place. So yes, summer vibes going on. Wish the same to you Alexey! Hope your weekend will be awesome with melodies. Thanks for writing!

      @@MattiasHolmgren Thank you very much, my friend! Oh yes, I also love to revisit some old pieces of scratch or ideas or lyrics also, to put some new things you've learned in between. Always very inspiring and exciting process for me. One of small moments, where you're feeling good about getting older, haha) I just wish you to make all these tracks to the release successfully!
      Also enjoying summer here, so nice weather, very inspiring time. Hope to have a couple of weeks of vacation later in June) I'm so happy for you, so nice, that you're having a good time! Keep it going! Everything is fine :)

    Hej! Jag lyssnar mkt på post rock och har precis börjat lite med Logic. Trummorna i Logic verkar låta bra, men jag har inte listat ut hur man får till de typiska ”post rock” ljuden. Hur gör man tex långa svepande cymbal ljud? Går det med Logics trummor? Skulle vara kul om jag kunde få några tips om det.

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Michael, glad you are also into Post Rock. Its a fun and broad genre to compose in. Logic and its library is very capable to make suitable sounds. Reversing cymbals is easy. Either make it in a sampler or reverse the audio clip via information panel for the clip (left top) Sure, I Will see if I can prepare some more videos in the Post Rock category. Thanks for writing. PS. Writing in english so more People can take part. Cheers! Happy sunday! 🌞😋
