Hello Matty, you'll be surprised when you see where I'm watching your UA-cam presentation from. I'm also an old turner, who has been retired for a long time, but it's in my blood that I can't do without metal and I watch all your innovations and meticulousness. I always say that metal processing on conventional machines is an art of knowledge. Current production on CNC machines is mass production! Operators, as they are called, are not turners or millers, but workers who just stand next to these machines. What you know is no longer taught in schools today, at least not here. In my opinion, that's all the beauty of processing when you have a plan and work according to it! Just keep going, in my opinion it keeps a man alive in our age when he does something that fulfills him and maybe earns something, at least for electricity and materials! Greetings from Zlatko from Croatia (Europe)
Gday, Unfortunately its not taught in the schools here as much as it was when I went to school, I was lucky to have a fantastic teacher back in the day, Im only self taught and wish I had of got a trade as a fitter and turner and not just a truck driver and your spot on when you say it gets in the blood, Truly appreciate you watching and commenting mate, Cheers
G'day mate. It'll be fine! If you want to turn it true, mount the bearings and the morse taper, put it all in the head stock and drive it with a dog! Here's an irony, I bought a pipe centre as a short cut to making a tailstock chuck! All the best, Matthew
LMAO, Matty, when you went from the 3 jaw to the 4 jaw, I honestly said just use the 3 jaw, well bugger me you went from the 4 to the 3 jaw, I did have a little chuckle. The times when I've put mating parts together and they've locked up, I found by blocking any holes and using the air gun would get me out of trouble. Good job mate, you look as if you are enjoying yourself in the workshop again. Regards to all, take care and be well 👍
Gday, it was a lot easier using the 3 jaw, I honestly thought id gone a touch big on that bore but turned out spot on in the end mate, Appreciate you watching, Cheers
Hey Matty, good stuff as always. That's a very good design... I have a revolving tailstock adaptor that takes my little sherline lathe chucks. It never occurred to me to make a pipe centre that would attach to it. I now have yet another project to add to the list.
Hi Matty, I took the easy path, used a MT 3 revolving center and adapted the pipe center nose cone. Wish I had heat treated it, too soft and the pipe bites into the nose cone, but good enough.
G'day Matty, happy days my mate, thoroughly enjoying this build, I'm sure it's going to turn out just lovely 🎉, thanks for sharing, and have a great one 👍

Matty it is great to see you in the shop turning out amazing work. There are more ways than one "to skin a cat" and your way has great results and that is all that matters. Stay well mate!!
G'day Matty, that's a really beautiful lot of turning you have done there. On size and looking great. You can't ask anything better of it can you? Can't wait till part three! Hope you and yours are keeping well mate. Cheers from London. Sam
You are doing the JOB mate. Do it how you think is best. I love learning new ways of doing things with the way you approach the things you build. Happy Days. From kiwi land.
Beautiful work as per usual, nice to see you back at it, it is hard to stay away from something you actually enjoy doing, even if having to record it all can at times put a damper on it. 👍
Great job Matty, like the weight reduction feature. If the cone does run out on final assembly, then mount it in tailstock, set up a prop shaft friction drive using 3 point steady, just plain shaft held on centre in chuck, driven by a dog, and plain end against the cone. Use the 3 point steady to keep shaft on centre. Like the idea of modular use. Thanks for sharing.
@MattysWorkshop Just another thought, possibly drill & tap in the cone, and fit a hex head screw, then drive it with a 1/2" square drive and socket. Regards John
