My wife who is very artsy fartsy was walking by just as you were showing the swarf pile from cutting the taper and asked if you were making a blue Christmas tree. 🤣🤣🤣
G'day Matty. You are very fortunate in having so many people who are doing their best to help you. Congratulations to all who visit, & help in here. This latest end mandrel looked better than a store bought unit. 😊😊😊 ... Beautiful work, Well Done. Ted
Hi Matty, beautiful job. What an awesome present you received there from a very generous subscriber. Those Daintree live centres are very high quality with a price reflecting that quality. Merry Christmas from Stuart and Leanne. Canberra.
Hi, and thanks for your videos! You know, there is a super easy way to fix that little runout on your pipe centres. Since they both have flat ends, you can use that to drive the center when you true it up. Just put a piece of stock, a little smaller in diameter than the end of your pipe centre, in the chuck and turn it flat. Put a piece of rubber or leather in between and press the centre against it using the tailstock. The friction will be enough to drive the centre for your finishing pass.
Gday Stuart, the quality and finish of the Daintree centre is absolutely beautiful and nice to see there made here in Australia, making the 150mm centre was really enjoyable and to have minimal runout was surprising considering it was done in the 3 jaw, appreciate you watching mate, cheers
Yeah mate, nice one. I feel compelled to admit though that when I saw you go from the small drill to that huge one right up the part's clacker I thought that was a bit much to ask of it. I had a bit of a laugh when you decided on a little bit smaller one. No worries mate, I still loved the video. Just a thought for the hub you're mounting the cone to. If you put some threaded holes between the mounting holes you could use those to help back the hub out with some grub screws or bolts of a matching thread. It would save you having to use any kind of puller. Just driving the bolts in would push against the back side of the cone forcing the hub out of it. Cheers!
Hi Matty. Great to see you back on youtube. Congrates on reaching 25000 subs that's amazing. Something to look forward to in many years to come. Really enjoyed see all your home made tools in action. Cheers Mike
Hi Matty, man that turned out great. Must be some descent quality steel with that nice finish 👍 That live center is a great gift. An early merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄
Home made wire wool...... But you'd need some pretty serious gloves to use it Your pipe or cone center looks awesome, I always enjoy making tools like this for the wood lathe, although I am averse to making the wooden equivalent of wire wool and wherever possible cut bits off in one block to use for something else later...not sure it would be safe to do with steel ....or economical to be honest. The wood boxing and care given to your gift is typical of british made tools, I bought an old but brand new straight edge a while back and that came in a wood box too. Wherever possible I but british made tools, I grew up with them so I know how good they are....usually last a lifetime unless you really abuse them Thanks for sharing Matty (I like a nice storm too)
Mattie….. That is one HUMUNGOUS tailstock centre eh?🤣😀 If she does tip forward, sling a shot bag over the back end of the tailstock 👍 Those Australian made revolving centres are bloody schmick looking bits of kit too 👏👏 Anyhoo…. Love ya work mate. I’m looking forward to an endless series’s of drawings becoming available.. so that we can all copy some of your projects. Regards Robert
Gday Robert, the tailstock handles the pipe centre nicely considering the size, the Daintree centre is a thing of beauty and Australian made which is even better, I’m hoping the plans will be available in the new year mate, thanks for watching, cheers
The whole job is the dogs dangly bits Matty. A beautiful job. It just goes to show some three jaw chucks can be accurate to within a thou. Your new live centre looks the business mate. I couldn't hear the name of the manufacturer properly, and the transcript I'd useless for these things. Could you let me know the name please Matty? It's a very generous gift from a subscriber. Cheers from England, Sam
That is a big pipe center Matty!! I made a socket the fits over the handle on the compound and use a variable speed drill when I need to turn big tapper saves all the hand cranking Cheers👍
Gday, I do/did have a t-handle for mine but I’ve either thrown it away or cut it up not thinking and I was to lazy to build another one, thanks for watching, cheers
Fantastic channel donation, that's your "Number 1 chuck" now methinks. Big congratulations on 25 K subscribers Matty, bloody brilliant. Nice job on the cone centre, great addition to the shop, I've just bought a car wheel bearing size 52 x 25 x 37 mm long, just lock it up on the shaft, and all done. All the best form little old UK, Regards John.
Gday Matty another really nice job and another super useful setup for your collection. Love your work mate, catch ya on the next one and all the best for Chrissy to you all as well.
I have done since I was a kid, never gone a day without one and even brought a new one for my wedding day 18 years ago 😉, thanks for watching mate, cheers
Looks awesome. I know you got tired cranking that compound cutting that taper. I am machining a MT5 arbor and that is a bunch of compound cranking also traveling over 5 inches each pass.
Thanks for another great video Matty. I'm interested to know what you use for the etching on your shop made tools. I imagine a laser etcher of some kind? Best wishes for a happy Christmas break, Tim.
Wow, what an amazing gift. . What a great blessing. . Merry Christmas. . Half a Thou run out? Fantastic. . . Absolutely amazing and it looks great ! ! !
Gday Paul, I’m pretty happy with 1/2 thou runout and the Daintree centre is absolutely beautiful, thanks for watching and have a great Christmas mate, cheers
Hi, Matty and happy holidays. Brilliant bit of machining on that massive pipe center. Doing it all in a 3-jaw makes it even more impressive. You answered the only question I had in mind, which was the tailstock balance. An awesome piece of kit--just like the rest of your shop-made tools. The 3-D printed box for the tool holder is impressive. Question: Would it be possible to get a mailing address for you? It would be great to be able to send stuff from time to time. Thanks for letting us watch your work and I hope you and your loved ones have a merry Christmas. Cheers, mate.
Gday, I was surprised how well it turned out using the 3 jaw and a lot less setup time, having a 3D printer is fantastic for the workshop, definitely keeps everything nice and neat, my email is in the description mate, thanks for watching, cheers
Another great instalment to the video file thanks mate when doing those large tapers have you considered using a battery powered drill with a T piece in it the turn the wheel i do this get it to with in a couple thousands then turn by hand saves the wrists some Had me 6 month Rust check and great result levels are hardly detected so super stoked about that big weight off me now on with life Great video mate N Merry Christmas you you N Family
Gday, I do/did have a T handle to run the compound but I can’t find it anywhere, either I thrown it away or cut it up not thinking, my last check up was really good, don’t need to go back for 6 months now thankfully have a great Christmas mate, cheers
When I grow up, I want to do like you do!!! Not a critique in any way, if you use a variable speed drill on the cross slide, your hands won't get so tired. Go one way reverse and back up wa la cheers mate 73 dan in kansas city mo usa
Gday, I do have an attachment for the drill but I can’t find it anywhere, I’m thinking I’ve thrown it out or cut it up no thinking, thanks for watching
Looks great Marty , I am wondering question, I just got a new lathe to replace a old one, its a 13x40 T , looks like you’re lathe it’s all level, but testing it , the coolint doesn’t all drain out still some near the head stock , the drain is more to the tall stock , is this normal ?
Gday, my drain is at the tailstock end also and the lathe is level, I have the same issue and it’s annoying to say the least, I’m looking at putting in a second drain near the headstock now, cheers
My wife who is very artsy fartsy was walking by just as you were showing the swarf pile from cutting the taper and asked if you were making a blue Christmas tree. 🤣🤣🤣
That’s not a bad idea mate, got me thinking now, thanks for watching, cheers
For somebody that claims to not be a machinist and without the latest and greatest, you do awesome work. dave
Great job as always Matty. Beautifully finished. The gift looks amazing. Cheers Nobby

Hi Matty, really good fun turning larger pieces with precision. That Daintree is a top piece of kit. Nice job all round, thanks for the video.
