Given all that you are getting with this mixer, the price is very fair. High quality parts cost more but make a big difference. Just as an example, volume pots are critical for sound quality. Cheap pots degrade the signal. A good volume pot from a really good company like Alps, can cost over $50 each. (And that's a wholesale price to a manufacturer.). Obviously, they can't use $50 pots on everything or the mixer would sell for a lot more money, but they most likely used pots that cost about $10-$15. That alone is a lot of money, and you're just getting started.

My very 1st mixer was a rotary mixer from Japan and I used to follow Harvey around back in the day to hear the legendary sound of the v6. It was so special back then-so warm and full of emotion. As a broke college student that piece just wasn’t an option. Fast forward 25 years and a rotary collection later (still at it bc house is home for life) the downside of the ARS mixer (love it too) is the lack of 4th channel preamp for someone like me still playing on 4 turntables in additional to the 2 digital I/O. This work of art Andy has created solves everything for me personally. The rack mount means little these days-it’s not heavy like the v10 so it will be easy to fabricate a raised mount with a bit of ergonomic angle to help hand position and still have space above it to mount the ARS. It arrives Thursday so excited to build a mount for it this weekend. Will post a vid of it in action on a nice system. ☺️🙏🏽

I’m planning to get into Rotary mixers because they offer a precise level of mixing. I don’t like much straight/drastic music cuts so a regular mixer doesn’t appeal much to me (except the Model 1.4) so what I’m thinking is the MasterSounds radius 2 or 4 because I need 4 channels, this seems to be a beast
I've been mixing for over 25 years on linear input faders and just gone to rotarys...they are limited compared to linear....personally linear are better....there is way too much if a hype over rotary.... You also contradicted your self lol... You will love the mastersounds mixers.
looks cool and i'd love to hear it at some point but in terms of flexibility i feel like the lack of a high EQ could be a nightmare for improv sets and restrict your track selection during set planning. in my library there are a lot of good (lossless!) tunes that simply need a bit of highs adjustment, either because the master mix was dull from the start or the vinyl rip was from an old record or the highs are just too sharp when making a long blend between tracks (i'm mixing jungle and drum and bass mostly where you really have to be careful not to overload the frequencies and create painful high clashes of hi-hats etc). so yeah i don't think this mixer would be for me, even if i could justify the price. i just feel like you have to have an incredibly high-quality music library and weed out anything that doesn't have balanced highs.
Lossless is definitely the best way to go, and you shouldn't have any more problems than you do with something like an MP-3. The issues you mention are almost certainly do to something else. When you rip vinyl use a regular phono cart and not a DJ cart. DJ carts are not meant for sound quality. Its a special application product. No need to get anything really expensive. A $100-$200 MM cart is all you need. "have to be careful not to overload the frequencies and create painful high clashes of hi-hats etc" That shouldn't happen either. Properly setting your gain structure should eliminate the issue. What you need to do is look at the entire signal path and make note of every "volume" or level type of control. For example, trim, channel faders, preamp volume, etc... Anything that controls the signal level. Once you list them all, go through each one and determine if its a volume control or a gain control. There's a big difference. Gain controls are on the input of a component and volume controls are on the output of a component. Gain controls can distort/overload the signal, and volume controls can't. Ignore volume controls and set your gains first. Once you have the gains set properly, you can't distort the signal. Then you use volume controls to adjust loudness. One thing DJ's are always worried about is red lining the signal. (And you should be concerned.). However, if you have your gain structure set correctly and you start to red line when you raise your volume controls, its perfectly fine. Red lining is only a problem if its from too much gain. So, don't worry about overdriving the signal from volume.
@@AT-wl9yq 1. you can't get everything in lossless and bad masters exist. 2. you can't use volume alone for all transitions and for double-drops (in the case of D&B) it certainly never works. if clashing basslines exist, so do clashing mids and highs. if you play two neuro tracks on top of each other, there's a high chance you'll have way too loud highs unless you use the EQ. you can easily see how strong this effect is by recording a D&B double-drop with a lot of headroom and looking at the waveform.
Great video Mojaxx - I've always upgraded my gear when i feel the limitations of the stuff i'm using is holding me back. I went from a Gemini 626 to a Pioneer DJM600 & then to my current Xone:92 and can't see why i would move from that to be honest. So would have to say that as my sound & style of DJing have changed over the years then the Xone:92 is my favourite mixer. But having said that I would ABSOLUTELY KILL to have a go on a Allen & Heath DB4, a Pioneer DJM-V10 & also a Model 1 or 1.4 to just see what they sound & feel like. I've (just about) got used to routing my EFX/RMX-1000 through the 4th channel on the Xone:92 but still can be a bit to get my head around, so would also like to use a Allen & Heath PX5 but it's a shame that mixer only has the 3 band EQ, A&H ABSOLUTLY missed a trick with that one. If anyone in Newcastle has a DB4, DJM-v10, Model1 or 1.4 & is willing to give me an hour on them..............
I have a px5 and got to have a go on a DB4 a few weeks ago. To be honest I was pretty disappointed with it. The sound quality was pretty crap compared to their analogue mixers. The filter was no where near as nice sounding either. Shame really !
I am now smoking a panatella and listening to Phil Collins. My marks and spencer's knit wear has elbow patches and is a comfortable cashmere weave. I am compelled to do these things. Thanks Mojaxx - Great review. I also love your surprise on your thumbnail photo.
the rack mounted set up of it is nice for the sound system culture side of things where you bring in a rolling rack with power amps and your system eq and limiter and on the top this mixer would be a brute. I'm seriously considering this for my dub stack
Thanks for your honestly Mojaxx… the mixer looks dope but also looks a lot like a Mastetsounds which is fair. I’m sure it’s a beast. Let’s hope for a 4 channels (or even 2) which gives us some hope in pricing ;)
those direct outs are super useful, im imagine what a bliss could be play a full eurorack system through this mixer recording straight to multitrack to make tracks later trough some editing on your daw!!
Why only a high pass on each channel?? I love how playDifferently uses filters instead of EQs on the Model 1 & 1.4, but at least you get lo pass, hi pass, and user set band pass filters. Having just a hi pass filter w/o EQs is extremely limiting. What if I just want to cut the lows on a particular channel w/o losing any hi or mid freq? U can't. Is that normal with rotaries?
Difficult decision as i already own ARS 9100 and 9100B ........ Tabletop is much better unless you have a dedicated booth .... be interesting to put the ARS up against this on a big system for sure as I love the way the ARS sounds! whats your thoughts mate?
Most joy? A djm 500 and 600. They were king of clubs for so long. Im justused to them. 600 us probably my fave cos i loved the sampler. But these days, allan heath xone 96. I just love the filters and sound.
I must say. Proper MTB bike cost around that price and even up to 8.5K GBP, so 5.5GK GBP is good price considering that great equipment for your hobby is expensive.
It would of been great Mojaxx if you did that review of the Clarity A system. You might have picked up on the fundamental floor that comes inherently in concentricly designed speakers that after purchasing (now regretfully) have found that TPI have not overcome like some of their competitors. That is I've learned after a lot of research, intermodulation distortion! Certain low frequencies modulating or cancelling certain high frequencies. Half my tracks sound like they're gargling water. I wonder if Steve has noticed!
That’s strange they are used to making high end cinema audio so I would presume they know all about distortion, saying that may have had a budget to fit to with the clarity A and used materials that Will distort the sound
Urei 1620 my fav. still own it. never needed the 3 band. eq and mixes were seemless. i remember when it was the club standard. wondering how this compares to the alpha recording systems (japan) or the euphonia for EDM and classic disco freestyle tracks. How would you differentiate the 3 from sound quality standpoint? can the euphonia really keep up with the legacy great?

How did it go with the V10? I've been ogling one for about 2 years but recently bought an Allen and Heath DB4 for £900 notes, whereas the V10 looks like a similarly complicated machine - Mixer geeks unite!!!!!
@@omselection438 honestly, it’s a machine that has a (to me) unparalelled depth. I came from the 900NXS2 and the X1800Prime. I’m still getting used to the send/return style effects and I’m a little sad I can assign only one channel to the beatFX at a time, but it keeps me on my toes and I’ve never looked back!! I’ve looked into the DB4 as well and that still tickles my interest, too!! (I think I’d get lost in the FX on that tho 😇)
@@omselection438 it’s a very flexible and pleasing mixer. Kind of takes the best bits of xone 92/96 and the best of the 900NXS and blends them together. While it does a lot of different things, it’s not confusing to use.
I wonder how Mastersounds FX Unit plays with it.... I hope they make a "non racking" 2 channel version... lastly..... will they make they're own FX unit? ..... love the video Mojaxx!
Beast-mode mixer which I'd love to play on, though I believe the StpVX Phoenix is/was more expensive at $10,000, though I suspect in reality it's mostly vapourware.
They are definitely used in specific scenes, whereas pioneer are appropriate for most kinds of DJ. I hated the xone 92 at first but after playing with it for a while you can really make it sing.
Great review, great mixer. It’s unfortunate for union audio to be ready for production during the current economic situation. A £5500 mixer is something not everyone can afford that easy, like you say they weren’t targeting a price range market. That said, I would like to see a smaller version, say, an orbit 2 or orbit 4 (if possible). MasterSounds look to succeeded doing that, maybe that wasn’t Andy’s personal idea.
I agree. I had the MasterSounds v4. My opinion, a valve mixer with channel HP filters instead of channel EQs is missing for someone with a smaller budget and space. I’m waiting for that to come
Thanks for the review, but I find this mixer very limited. Have tried the V6 a couple of times, and loved the smooth blending/transitions, pretty unique. But the 2 extra isolators were a must for EQ. Not every record sounds the same, some need EQ adjustment, and not every track mixed in has to come with the highs/meds. This Orbit6 mixer does not allow to come in with just the kick. I would still spend my money on a Alpha Recording System mixer rather than this one.
Rotary mixers are making some real advancements currently, which I love. The prices.. not so much, however. I saw a Rane MP2015 for sale for $10K (brand new).. SMH.. I get inflation, but that is NUTZ... Nobody is going to pay that...
It uses SMD capacitors that don't last long. SMDs cost much less than old school hi-end passive components, so the companies that are using SMDs have a much higher profit margin, SMDs are very good for quick manufacturing i.e. less labor cost. The quality of sound is a very subjective matter.
Why they didn't put LPF??? Why?.... I would buy this mixer tomorrow if there was a way to modulate high frequencies. I own Xone 92 for many years and now I am looking for something new, but having only HPF is not enough, in my opinion...
I feel so out of place as a rotary head lol I could not give a single crap about vinyl, I mean it’s cool, fun hobby. But I’m not going out of my way to accumulate a collection when I already have everything I like in AIFF. Still though, I am obsessed with rotary analog mixers 🤪
They only made 300, and i never got a response to my emails for pricing or availability, so in a way it might not be the most expensive one since they are all gone :D
@@JOKEMMM Maybe it does not exist / did not make it into production; TPI’s site only shows very good 3D renderings, there seems to be no other images out there

"Sound like nothing else on a real high quality big rig" It's analog, and i don't know of many clubs running analog amps, i may be wrong, but i havent ran into one in 20 years. I think it would sound better in house hooked to a good old school analog amp like a Sansui 9090db, Marantz, Harmon Kardon, etc., paired with some Klipschorns, than a clubs sound with digital class D Crowns, Martins, QSC, etc.

1. you can't get everything in lossless and bad masters exist.
2. you can't use volume alone for all transitions and for double-drops (in the case of D&B) it certainly never works. if clashing basslines exist, so do clashing mids and highs. if you play two neuro tracks on top of each other, there's a high chance you'll have way too loud highs unless you use the EQ. you can easily see how strong this effect is by recording a D&B double-drop with a lot of headroom and looking at the waveform.
Hmmm do I sell my Bozak and Urei to get one of these?
the rack mounted set up of it is nice for the sound system culture side of things where you bring in a rolling rack with power amps and your system eq and limiter and on the top this mixer would be a brute. I'm seriously considering this for my dub stack
It’s a while since I’ve wasted h you Fella. Total side thing. You look healthy with the weight loss. Good job
Thanks for your honestly Mojaxx… the mixer looks dope but also looks a lot like a Mastetsounds which is fair. I’m sure it’s a beast. Let’s hope for a 4 channels (or even 2) which gives us some hope in pricing ;)
Hi Mojaxx, I have the Model 1.4, I think think that’s the best sounding mixer I have ever heard. How do you think it compares to this mixer ?
The 1.4 is more flat, doesn’t have the wallop in the low end which this has. But that’s not saying it’s better or worse, just different.
@@Mojaxx Thnx Mojaxx, you rock !
those direct outs are super useful, im imagine what a bliss could be play a full eurorack system through this mixer recording straight to multitrack to make tracks later trough some editing on your daw!!
Very very Old School. Get ya from a to b nicely 🌟🙂
Difficult decision as i already own ARS 9100 and 9100B ........ Tabletop is much better unless you have a dedicated booth .... be interesting to put the ARS up against this on a big system for sure as I love the way the ARS sounds! whats your thoughts mate?
I would love that battle also. I’m in ARS 9100b also. (“ Upgrade “ from MS 4v)
same boat, thinking is it worth to change ars 9100 on the orbit 6? especially for minimal.
Plz do a formula sound review Mojaxx
Great review mate, Thankyou !
Great video and explanation, truly a glorious mixer
That’s strange they are used to making high end cinema audio so I would presume they know all about distortion, saying that may have had a budget to fit to with the clarity A and used materials that Will distort the sound
if this thing is priced at 6k im curious what the new rodec mx modular will cost.
Love it. Its all about sound quality. I need to save some money 😄
What most people do is buy mixers like this and then run them on cheap set ups....its like running a Ferrari on re-moulds....
I have a Matersounds 4v and uprated psu running on a 30 grand system....
ATC SCM 20 SPEAKERS
2 REL SUBS
AUDIO RESEARCH SP9 VALVE PRE AMP
MARK LEVINSON ML9 POWER AMP
THOUSANDS OF POUNDS WORTH OF SPEAKER, RCA, POWER CABLES....ETC.
let's just say I hear and reap the benefits of a good mixer!
My fave mixer? The ‘GM 25 Made 2 Fade’ by Kam, of course. It had a better crossfader than many mixers now but worse everything else.
If this mixer was cut in half and stacked on top. I would buy 3 channel version with filters and master section stacked on top 🔥💪🏻
For that price I would have liked low pass filters too..
Yeah man! Agreed
I actually shit my pants when you said the price.
LOL
I had a big chuckle, that's crazy money for a DJ mixer
Oooof, that is bad-ass
Smoothest knobs I have ever heard.
I knew I shouldn’t’ve watched this… now I want it, and we all know how that went with the V10 🤦🏼
@@djstuc Thank you kindly buddy
@@djstuc I have one.... the latest gen... L-O-V-E IT!
Beast-mode mixer which I'd love to play on, though I believe the StpVX Phoenix is/was more expensive at $10,000, though I suspect in reality it's mostly vapourware.
*I’ve never seen an Allen & Heath DJ mixer in the wild.*
@@djstuc Anywhere outside of the UK?
They are definitely used in specific scenes, whereas pioneer are appropriate for most kinds of DJ. I hated the xone 92 at first but after playing with it for a while you can really make it sing.
But can you trust Cleveland Terry?
The stpVestax Phoenix mixer costs 10k USD.
Wow. I'm in love...
I’m waiting for that to come
I miss the eq kill buttons.
I cannot see any return controls, just the sends at the top of each channel?
yeah thats the first thing that struck me was the similarity to the Allen and Heath mixer at least superficially
We have an S6 / are these quite similar then / or is it different components
Rotary mixers are making some real advancements currently, which I love. The prices.. not so much, however. I saw a Rane MP2015 for sale for $10K (brand new).. SMH.. I get inflation, but that is NUTZ... Nobody is going to pay that...
Can you trust Mojaxx ?
Where can I buy it?
nostálgica Vestax PMC-400
I was wondering what happened to that Clarity A review.
It uses SMD capacitors that don't last long. SMDs cost much less than old school hi-end passive components, so the companies that are using SMDs have a much higher profit margin, SMDs are very good for quick manufacturing i.e. less labor cost. The quality of sound is a very subjective matter.
Can I justify getting this?
IF ONLY WE COULD AFFORD THE HIGH END AMP AND MONITORS TO APPRECOATE THE QUALITY SOUND THE MIXER GIVES OUT :*(
The orbit sounds faaaaaaat! 😱Even though UA-cam
Why they didn't put LPF??? Why?.... I would buy this mixer tomorrow if there was a way to modulate high frequencies. I own Xone 92 for many years and now I am looking for something new, but having only HPF is not enough, in my opinion...
I feel so out of place as a rotary head lol
I could not give a single crap about vinyl, I mean it’s cool, fun hobby. But I’m not going out of my way to accumulate a collection when I already have everything I like in AIFF.
Still though, I am obsessed with rotary analog mixers 🤪
Dang!!! What a way to get moist.
I would like to get my hands on this mixer is it available now for purchase
Yup!
Pretty sure the "TPI type14" is more expensive
Release date ?
They only made 300, and i never got a response to my emails for pricing or availability, so in a way it might not be the most expensive one since they are all gone :D
@@JOKEMMM Maybe it does not exist / did not make it into production; TPI’s site only shows very good 3D renderings, there seems to be no other images out there
you might be right on that one :/
Fuck...
@@JOKEMMM Nice marketing tho; building a myth
I'm confused. Where are the 2nd EQ knobs? I only see one set on highs mids lows?
@@djstuc I see. But there master EQ knobs? On the right hand side
would be nice if they made a 2 channel
I Love This Channel Amazing Content #CHEER$ #Mojaxx
That looks crazy
blue monday, for real?
i like the Master Sounds range especially when they combine the rotary thing with a cross fader.I am not a big rotary fan but i have seen one or two that i like and there are a few with cross faders and some are even a reasonable price.I might get one for my vinyl collection one day.Not this one though
Why do so few rotary mixers have cross-faders?
the whole point of a rotary is to mix using the pots. That's why there is no crossfader.
Rotary mixers are meant for blends. Regardless though, you still mix with a crossfader? And im not talking about scratching
@@aringrey Yeah I see that but other rotary mixers such as Master Sounds Two-Valve and Omnitronic 422 include cross-faders.
The cross fader ads another signal path for the audio channels to travel through. Another point where the audio quality could be affected.
@@darktherapy It's usually assignable to channels though.. so you can bypass
"Sound like nothing else on a real high quality big rig"
It's analog, and i don't know of many clubs running analog amps, i may be wrong, but i havent ran into one in 20 years.
I think it would sound better in house hooked to a good old school analog amp like a Sansui 9090db, Marantz, Harmon Kardon, etc., paired with some Klipschorns, than a clubs sound with digital class D Crowns, Martins, QSC, etc.
Allô, could I talk to my beloved bank accountant please ? :p
Nothing beats the Rodec MX180 MKII
