    This is hilarious how the second the bus stops and traffic keeps going a line of unmarked SUVs start pooling out from the parking lot.

      Take note of that there were 2 box trucks in the passing lane. The first one like may been able to pass just before the red lights came on. This truck would have blocked the view of the bus to the motorist behind it. About every vehicle pulled over the cop pulled over was either on right side or behind the box trucks, so they would not have been able to see the school bus. Notice that neither of the box trucks were pulled over. This video would have also served as evidence that those vehicles couldn't see the school bus.

      If there is a median then only the direction the bus is stopped on has to stop. Median here means a boundary wall or grass median, not just a left turn lane.

      As far as I can tell, the "rest of us" are the countries where school children ride public transport instead and traffic doesn't have to stop whatsoever for those transportation vehicle. So these "retarded rules" are keeping the children alive.

    • @gen157
      @gen157 7 років тому +2

      How so? I really want to find out why you think such a thing. Forcing traffic to stop so children can cross safely is surely more safe than just throwing them off the vehicle and letting them fend for themselves.

    • @gen157
      @gen157 7 років тому +3

      Telling children that when the bus is stopped, all traffic should be stopped as well. There's a reason school bus operators don't let the kids cross until the driver can tell all drivers have stopped. You're not making much sense.

    For all you saying the bus stopped too fast--the video is sped up 2x. So really it didn't stop all that fast and traffic is not going nearly as fast as it appears. Not to mention traffic just kept going even after police started swarming. The law is the law, should they move the bus stops to a side street? Yes, probably, but that doesn't give you the right to ignore traffic laws. There may have been one or two innocent drivers here but the majority were straight up breaking the law.

    I worked as a school bus driver and had a near miss. I was stopped on a two way street and a corvette was going to blow past the stop sign and run the child over. Thanks to the training I had received I had stopped at an angle that allowed me to pull out and block the car, this protecting the child. Glad the officers are saving lives.

    One of the things I learned when I moved from Missouri to Kansas was a small but important difference in how school bus signals are treated. In Missouri, vehicles are not required to stop when you are traveling the opposite direction of a school bus on a highway containing four or more lanes of traffic. In fact, and this is from page 43 of the Missouri Driver's Guide, _No driver of a school bus shall take on or discharge passengers at any location upon a highway consisting of four or more lanes of traffic, whether or not divided by a median or barrier, in such a manner as to require the passengers to cross more than two lanes of traffic._
    For comparison, page 12 of the Kansas Driving Handbook states: _You must stop when meeting or overtaking a school bus, church bus or day care bus that is stopped to pick up or let off children. You must remain stopped until the STOP signal is retracted and the red lights are turned off. Traffic approaching a school bus in the opposing roadway of a divided highway is not required to stop._
    A subtle but distinct difference.
    Read your state's handbook. They're free, and usually online.

      Florida is different. Unless there is a raised or grass median or marked median of a certain width (center turn lane) you have to stop. Even if it's six lanes. There is a video similar to this from Pasco County on a bigger hwy. Cops pulled out like the president was coming and blocked across the highway.

      In Florida it’s more of a precaution just in case a child runs across the road. The bus goes down the street one way then turns around and goes back to pick up children on the other side. So if the road doesn’t have a raised median both sides must stop no matter the size of the road.

    I'll be honest this confused me. In Ohio, if theres 4 lanes of traffic, it's perfectly legal for oncoming traffic to keep going while the school bus is stopped. Reason being it's also illegal to have kids cross more than one lane.

    • @Ryan-re1rs
      @Ryan-re1rs 6 років тому +29

      Joe Podskalan... you are correct. This was a odd area to try and have kids cross that big of a road. Turn the bus around and pick up or drop them off on whatever side they need to be on. I would have fought this ticket if it was for me and as a parent I would be pissed off if the school wanted my kids to cross a 4 lane road to get on a bus

    • @jasonnies

      Lightsaber360 oh ok. Maybe that's what the law is here too. I honestly think that part of the problem is that people (like myself) aren't informed of what the actual law is. It seems like most of the time here some stop and some don't and nobody really knows what to do.

    NICE GOING! I remember stopping behind a school bus a few months ago. Some hothead behind me honked, then swerved around me, and sped (And I mean SPED!) past me and the bus, flipped us the finger and (I thought) continued down the road. What he didn't notice was, in the cars facing the opposite way as us, was an Arvada PD motorcycle cop. (he was behind the First car facing the opposite way that also stopped for the bus). The cop went after him and pulled him over. After the bus continued on, I saw the cop standing next to the guy's car. I just tapped my horn in approval to the cop and gave him a thumb's up.

    Most jurisdictions these tickets would all be thrown out. Law states that on a four lane highway (which this is) cars traveling in the same direction as the bus MUST STOP (as they did). However, traffic traveling in the opposite direction is NOT required to stop (which they didn't). Therefore, all tickets issued should be fought and tossed. Look here: www.bellinghamherald.com/news/traffic/rules-of-the-road/article57151848.html

    Here in Washington ...those drivers did nothing illegal ..2 lanes each direction ..equals not stopping
    (3) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with three or more marked traffic lanes need not stop upon meeting a school bus which is proceeding in the opposite direction and is stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging school children.RCW 46.61.370

    • @Acorn_Anomaly
      @Acorn_Anomaly 6 років тому +11

      How do you manage to look up the exact law and fuck up reading comprehension that badly?
      1) How many directional lanes must a highway have to be exempt from stopping? Three.
      2) How many directional lanes does this highway have? That's right, you said it yourself. TWO.
      Therefore, you still need to stop.

    • @deepsquat600
      @deepsquat600 6 років тому +5

      2 lanes each direction equals...lets see 2x2=4 .... hmmm lets try it this way 2+2=4 ..same answer..4 is greater than 2 ..3 is greater than 2 also

    • @Acorn_Anomaly
      @Acorn_Anomaly 6 років тому +8

      You do realize the "three" in that sentence refers to three DIRECTIONAL lanes, as I said? Three each direction. That's SIX lanes, total. (You know, 3+3=6). This highway has two DIRECTIONAL lanes.
      How do I come up with that conclusion?
      It's simple. How the fuck do you expect there to be three total lanes on a road? Each side gets 1.5 lanes? Is there a place in Washington that has tons of half-size cars that only take up one lane, or is there motorcycle lanes everywhere? Three lanes means three lanes a direction.

      no ...it says MARKED traffic lanes..that means you could even have 1 lane each way AND a full time turn lane ..that would be 3 marked traffic lanes

      +thedarkfreak ....the law does not specify that the, "three or more lanes" ALL have to be going the same direction.
      AND BTW, this is a FIVE lane road, two each way and a center turn.
      It actually ILLEGAL for the driver to allow the children to cross there.

      The thing about children is, they're stupid and irresponsible. You can teach them all about safety and whatnot but doesn't mean they're going to listen and/or apply what they've be taught. Adults need to be responsible drivers, as they're the ones in control of the big metal machine that can kill children and other adults pretty easily. Human life is more important than someone getting to their destination 5 minutes earlier.

      Robert McConnell
      makes sense for a 2 lane road, but not a 4 lane. I just looked it up, and the first thing on google is this "You must remain stopped as long as the red lights flash or the stop arm is out. The only exception to this is where you are approaching the bus from the opposite direction on a road with at least two lanes in each direction." Maybe its different in Michigan, but it seems to me it would be safer to teach kids to use cross walks. If a few cars on the opposite side of the road stop in the right lane, the kids will think its safe to cross, but then some asshole not paying attention might try to go around the stopped cars to the left, not seeing the kids crossing.

    I'm certainly for tough enforcement for school bus/ zone violations, but it appears the bus did not signal it's intention to drop kids off until it was nearly stopped, and it seems cops began to move to pull people over when the lights on the bus were flashing yellow, not red. So, as much as I want people who pass a stopped school bus to be given large punishments, illegally ticketing people and not following proper protocol when operating a school bus just awful and another way for these corrupt cops to hand out tickets.

      Keith Hobbs School buses have yellow lights on the back and front that flash before it comes to a stop warning you before it happens, then the lights turn red at a big red stop sign comes out which also has its own flashing lights. If you fail to see those things, you're not paying attention and if you can't stop in time that means you're speeding or following too closely.

      If there's a median in between you don't have to stop, at least where I live that's the rule. The kid's need to cross the road, it's much safer for them to cross with the bus there holding traffic then it is to cross on their own after it leaves. Most buses have yellow flashing lights that come on a little bit before they actually stop to warn you they are stopping along with a stop sign that pops out.

    • @SeanHarlow
      @SeanHarlow 6 років тому +3

      If it's more than two, maybe three lanes kids just plain shouldn't be crossing in the middle of the block. This is a five lane road, it's not pedestrian friendly. Cross at the designated crosswalks.

Also, it's called paying attention to your driving! As for the kids, tell a 5 year old to only cross at the crosswalk when they think they're going to miss the bus, or when their super bright parent has decided to park across the street, and the child can see them. It's the law, STOP for the school bus!!!!

    perfectly legal in ohio.... Highways with Four or More Lanes
    On roads with four or more lanes, only traffic moving in the same direction as the bus must stop when the school bus stops to release passengers. Traffic coming from the opposite direction doesn't have to stop in these instances. To facilitate this law, children are dropped off on the same side of the road as their residences, so they won't have to cross the street.

      Unkel Dolan it's a National Safety Laws in all 50 states covering the busses and school bus traffic. Unless there is a center barrier separating the lanes on the road ALL traffic stops. There could be 6 lanes a turn lane and every vehicle in both directions is supposed to stop.

    • @Partyaap050
      @Partyaap050 6 років тому +12

      Doesn't make sense at all. This law is probably ignored so much because it is so illogical. I wonder when this law was created. Because it just sounds like it was made before schoolbusses even stopped at roads this wide and that the future wasn't taken into consideration. Meaning that as small towns expanded and the schoolbus also had the stop at big roads, the law technically still counts for these big roads. (Even tho there is not really a need for it)
      Anyway, traffic behind the bus stopped. If I was a member of that town I would want the police to worry about other things rather than citing vehicles that failed to stop for a bus that wasn't even near them.

      Also assuming the white vehicle at 0:50 is the same next to the white truck at 0:37
      What even is the point of making him stop? His view was obstructed by a truck and he was already pretty much next to the school bus when it didn't even come to a full stop or could even have it's doors open.
      Also why stop the car that is the furthest away from the bus, and let the *truck* closest to the bus go? Nothing in this video makes sense to me.

    So, for all of those who didn't know, you (a driver) are required by federal law to STOP for a child carrying bus (School Bus) whenever the bus has stopped and has the red-flashing STOP indicator lights engaged to indicate that children will be boarding/departing the bus. In addition, you must REMAIN STOPPED until the bus has disengaged the red flashing stop lights. It doesn't matter what lane you're in, if it's day or night, rain or sunshine, on a dirt road, back road, ally, side street, main street, highway, or multi-lane freeway/interstate. YOU. MUST. STOP. ******The ONLY exception to this law is for vehicles traveling on a multi-lane freeway/interstate where there is a large physical barrier dividing that freeway (median). In this instance, the vehicles traveling in the opposite direction do not need to stop, however, all vehicles traveling in the direction of the bus must stop. There are hefty fines and penalties for anyone who breaks this law. Fines and penalties range by state, but generally, the fine is $350 and 3 points on your driver's license. So why is this even a law? Why must you stop? Why is there a fine and a penalty? Well, it's simple. So you don't hit and kill a child crossing the street to get to the school bus. It's for the safety and well-being of the children. So please, don't be distracted and pay attention!!

    The kids are let off on their side of the street in this town. Regardless, traffic is to stop if there is no median separating the lanes of travel. I lived in the city next to Westland, and my child was an inch from being hit by a car that passed his bus on the right side (between him and the bus door). One of the most terrifying moments in my life. Mind you, the road I lived on was not a main road, and I lived directly across the street from the school!! So thankful I have taught my children to be aware of their surroundings and the idiot's that surround them. I've been driving in Pennsylvania for over 40 years, and not until last year did I see a school bus stopping to let off children on a 4 lane highway, In an area where the speed limit is 45mph.. I was driving this road for the 2,000th plus time, and suddenly, with little warning, a school bus on the other side of the highway stopped and put on his flashing lights. At 45mph, there was no possible way I could have stopped in the less than 100 feet between me and him. Not only that, but I had always assumed that school buses were not allowed to let off passengers on a 4 lane highway...and apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this, as at least 20 other cars, on the same side as me, went right on by the bus. A police cruiser just ahead of the bus, did a u-turn and came after the cars that passed the bus. The funny thing of that is, he could only stop one of 20, and that poor unlucky son of a bitch had to pay for following the traffic in front of him... Am I the only one who thinks it is dangerously stupid to drop off school children along a 4 lane highway, where cars are averaging around 50 mph?
