A survival kit doesn’t have to and can’t realistically prepare you for every scenario known to man. Truth is, you’d be better off with your kit, whatever you put in it, than without it. Good video.
Great video, thanks. Great knife, too. 🔪 I have black and glowing green scales on my 3V 6.5 Field Buddy knife with an Esee 3 mounted on it's leather sheath piggyback style in Esee's thin plastic sheath they have. Also a ferro rod to. I think together they compliment each other well as a great start to my 101 tool option. I wanted to add a mini survival kit to my knife, but it would stick out too much, so I carry a little bigger one on my belt separately. I like making preparedness kits for EDC, survival, camp, earthquake on up to the apocalypse SHTF kit. Fun hobby.

I agree with you that these exercises are fun to test one's thinking. And even oddly satisfying if some instance arises where one actually deploys something within their kit to accomplish some task. Shout-out for including the mylar blanket. They used to pass these out at the end of fall races [a.k.a marathons] for a bit of warmth to guard against suddenly having to cool down. They are great windbreakers. Also, for those hoping to mimic your kit the official name of that small ring is "Quick links." They are available in both zinc & stainless steel [for extra worry-free carry.]
Nice kit. for the tiny space you had to work with you did good if you ask me. Dont worry if you get alot of people saying you should had done this or that, its your kit, your project.
That was a cool and fun video. I agree with you, these are so much fun to build and put together, and it is an exercise in thinking for sure. I know people make fun of these kits and fishing kits, but for me, taking them out and actually using them is just as fun as putting them together. I used to love going out to small creeks and trout fish when I lived in Wisconsin, and when I started making these little kits, trout fishing became even more fun. One thing I always have with me in a pocket and on a keychain, is an MRE Tabasco bottle filled with bug juice, and then heat shrink around the bottle to keep the cap on, and if it's going on my keychain, I have an extra inch or so of that heat shrink and put a hole in it for my keychain. Many times, that has come in handy when outside and the bugs descend on you. Those little bottles also make great little liquid candles than burn for 45 to 70 minutes depending on flame height. Keep up the great work.
Good video, brother. These kits are fun to make. I enjoy doing it myself and they could save your life if done right. People should practice these skills, you never know when one of these kits could be needed. I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan and I am in the woods a lot. I have been stuck in the woods a couple of times and things like this comes in handy.
Awesome. Thank you. This was super fun. This was a practice video. Feeling out my subs and seeing how well the video does on UA-cam. If all goes well. I plan on making more
See what you do to me. You made me go dig into my Toy Box just like a little kid...lol. Turns out that I do have something Orange! I have a 3 dollar Raincoat, an SOL Mylar Blanket and Exotac Fire Sleeve. What I found interesting is a thing called a Lighter Leash...much like your lighter thingy but with a 3’ retractable cord and pocket clip. Forgot I had it, probably one of those things they sell next to the cash register that you give 3 seconds of thought too before buying...
I noticed you’re missing all the fun stuff; a Compass, Signaling Mirror and Magnifying Glass or Fresno Lens...all things you’re going to need for when you go catch the forest on fire...lol
Another good alternative to the sharpeners would be a Speedy Sharp sharpener. The carbide will sharpen any type of steel edge you have and throws sparks from a ferro rod real good. They come in a variety of colors, are small and take a long time to dull out.
Maybe use the last couple of unused holes on the bottom of the sheath to hang a little small pouch for holding skittles, peanut M&M's, and extra paracord.
10 or so years ago mini survival kits stuck on bk7 and cold steel bushman’s etc. were all over UA-cam people seemed to stop doing that stuff. Its really fun and cool thanks for the video great kit
I had a similar kit in the pouch of my schrade schf36. It was smaller than your pouch so not as complete. I found a way to add items was to attach them directly to the sheath. 50 pound braided fishing line is tough stuff and I could wrap 30 ft of it pretty easy. I then wrapped that in a good length of gorilla tape. I wrapped heavy monofilament around the back of the snap strap that secures the knife. It's crazy how much will fit there without getting in the way. I put a hook on the end of the line with a piece of painters tape over it. Then wrapped that with a pipe cleaner. The hook end slid behind the plastic liner and the pipe cleaner could be used as an improvised fly. I always looked at that heavy " survival knife kit" as something that stayed on me. Even if I lost my pack I'd still have everything I needed to last a few days. Nice job on your survival kit, ill be stealing a few of your ideas for mine!
Oh 1 other thing in mine, several of those strobe fireworks they sell at 4th of July. If you are lost in the woods they make one hell of a signal device!
I love my orange scales and so on. Being color blind to an extent, it really helps me in case i drop it in the foliage You could easily add a poncho in the space blanket bag and not take up much more room.
Doing something similar with a Cold Steel Bushman the hollow handle begs for a kit. It’s not a knife I cary and use every day but a reasonably priced knife that I can throw into my vehicles, bags, tackle box so it’s always available when it’s needed. It also can easily be converted to a 👍Spear👍 if that doesn’t scream survival knife I don’t know what does.
I just got through making something similar using altoid tin kits ranger banded to my side blades. So far so good, lasts a full day in the woods without losing anything or dropping.
Thank you. Yes. The lighter things is awesome. That’s a edc pouch I ordered off amazon and modified to attach to the knife. If you want a link let me know

The pouch doesn't suddenly become more compact or readily available because you tied it to your knife with some 550 cord. I think it's much easier to make a case for having it in a cargo pocket, belt pouch, butt pack, etc.

As far as "Survival" fishing goes. First you have to have a place to fish. Second you have to find something to use as bait. And last. Don't make a fishing rod per-say, just bait your hook weight the end of the line. Toss it out and tie off to a bendy piece of what ever. Willow bush is the best.
