- Here's a US Military Meal Ready to Eat that you don't see very often. We are taking a look at a Kosher MRE. This meal kit has everything you would find in a standard American field ration, but the contents are Kosher to meet the dietary requirements of Jewish soldiers. These Kosher food packs offer several main course options you won't find in a regular MRE. The menu I was lucky enough to review is 'Hickory Smoked Beef in Brown Rice, Mushrooms, Lentils, and Vegetables.' I was surprised to see that the entrée was packed by the commercial ration company MRE Star, and the other components were also packed by civilian MRE producers, most notably the NEX-XOS company.

The reason for outsourcing is because all ingredients in kosher food need to meet kosher standards including utensils and equipment producing the products. And NO it does not need to be blessed by a rabbi It is just the ingredients and the equipment
I suspect the gum isn't there because it likely has gelatin which usually isn't kosher.
Nice review! This look so different than the first “kosher” MREs we first saw in the mid to late 90s. I think they called them multi faith rations. There wasn’t much variety, think maybe 4 different meals in a case of 12. I’m sure none exist but that would be a cool one for you to find!
I'm not Jewish and don't require this diet but I have had a few of these mare's and to be honest they are more filling then most of the standard meals
Umm, the US military is not in the MRE making business. Every item is from a civilian contractor
You missed a great opportunity to explain the rules of Kosher (Kashrut). Meat and Dairy never together. Things that are neither are Pareve. Hot cocoa was dairy free and had coconut oil to make it creamy. Why not a Part 2 with Kosher info?

The ranch chick peas don't contain milk ingredients, so mixing it with the stew still kept it kosher!

I'm well aware. For these meals they are not using the typical contractors though.
There a few companies that produce actual Kosher/Halal MREs in the US. I think all of them are located in the NYC area. The reason why the DoD specifically outsources Kosher & Halal MREs, few in the upper ranks understand and, they don't want to understand. So its solidly outsourced to commercial entities, but so are the other military MREs. They have to meet specific nutritional goals. Now non-Jewish and non-Muslim service members? Do look for them, because their shelf life is 3 years or less so they are fresher. The down side to them is, there isn't a lot of Kosher or Halal ready to eat individual spice packets, and Religious High Holidays there typically no traditional holiday dishes. Which to me is sad. You can find 'Christmas' MREs, and they are typically rare with the shortest shelf life and its one meal. Turkey in gravy, or ham in pineapple sauce, and either stuffing or mashed potatoes, a thing of cranberry jelly, a corn bread and a spice cake with a beverage powder and either coffee or hot cocoa. I've only seen them once, it may have been a one off for that year, but the 'shelf life' listed was about 3 months from manufacture date, and I got one that was 6 months old. Still tasty.
you can make the main using uncle bens precooked brown rice, the mircowave reheat bag & some beef jerky cut up into small pieces.

Everything looked good I would love to try one I just know I would need to add some flavor to the main I’d probably just do what you did and add the corn nuts and chickpeas

Yes, I am wondering if that's why it didn't taste as good as normal MRE hot chocolate. The main entree was not anything I would've been served by my Kosher grandparents.

Have you ever done this before? Do you not know how MREs work? You put the foods to be heated inside the FRH bag. Also as 100 people have told you, MRE Star and the others are contractors the US uses to make MREs. I was surprised about the Canadian piece but perhaps it is a specialty item they have to special order with a waiver.
In fact, I've done it enough to know putting the food packs on the outside of the heater works better.

If thats the case I'm guessing you haven't seen to many of Steve's videos, because I've seen Steve use the frh in this manner several times. I've tried it, personally I don't feel like it gets as hot, but the main doesn't get soaked in the Chem water doing it the way he did it. I get what everyone is saying about the contractors, but I get what he is trying to say. Sopacko packs most us mre's. They are exclusive to the us military. You cannot buy a civilian us mre with the same components as the us mre. I get that you can buy the sopacko reduced sodium rations, but they are not the same as a standard us mre. Same with sopacko, mountain house meal cold weather. You can my mountain house freeze dried food, but not an actual mcw off the shelf. They are contracted to the us got. Excess or expired are sold on the civilian market

Has the ranch seasoning milk or milkpowder in it? If the answer is yes,then it's not kosher

Of course you would. Much less restrictive. They freely mix milk and meat, eat shrimp, etc.

Well that's what happens when 90% or so of the global population believes in a god or other religious things of that nature. I'm still shocked only 9.8% or so of the population is "non-religious" as it is.
@@LordLOC and all but .01% of that 9.8% has totally replaced worship of a traditional god with fervent worship of the state. I'll take most religious ideals over the one that's exclusively resulted in democide. And I'm an atheist.

Yeah, that's not how the US (and quite a few other countries) work. You don't need to be in the military to be able to be a citizen with a right to speak your mind.
