Your english may not be the best, but my God! Following your 'advice' turned out to be the best decision i ever made! Ditched the ortofon, and got myself a Nagaoka MP500, Sweet janice this thing sounds so very realistic and so very good! i sometimes has tears in my eyes when i listen, just smiling with tears of joy! If not for your channel, i've would never have known the name Nagaoka, and i agree with everything you've said and your impression of these pickups! Thank you!
@@szxz1z1z97 TEAC TN-4D turntable, with the TEAC's native headshell (dimensions are perfect) no need for shimming! Ditched the 2M bronze, they are not even in the same conversation, now I listen to real music! Moving-Iron is extremely dynamic and has a weighty low end taut that is just insane! You want a tone-arm with an effective mass of atleast 20 gram, headshell weight in the 10g - 12g area. Get a 35 watt's per channel Tube amp, running EL34 / KT88, and you're golden.

@@aaronsmith8265 wouldn't it only make it worse to alter my original statement? I don't care about all that, you're a Dick too you know, who cares.. Only thing of relevance here is -that important lessons were learned, I'm only about the hi-fi afterall, this isn't a popularity contest, try to calm down abit. My English isn't the best either, therefore, I can at times have difficulty understanding this Asian-English dialect 😅 Since you're so nosy, embarking on the topic, I'll let you know that I would personally refrain from being a public speaker in my 3rd language, which is English. Regardless, I acted upon his advice and purchased a premium cartridge, came back and thanked him for his advice. Please don't soil yourself. I disagree, because Ian doesn't show it playing high-activity music. A 0.4 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus is usually not that good at handling it. Get a MicroLine or Fineline stylus and you'll have less distortion.
Ian - Because of you I own the Schiit Mani from 2 years ago. Because of you I bought the MP-200 two weeks ago based on your review of the MP-150. I've been so happy hearing the musicians in the room with me now, like I could reach out and touch them. You are a blessing to this community.
Ed Martinez Dear Buddy Martinez...i am very, very happy for you. Yes though i am glad to be of service, the most critical credit goes to the hardworking creators of the great equipment themselves... you and i together make up the other part of the chain: honest consumers. Thank you for your kind words and time my friend. We go from strength to strength....and yes most importantly we are enjoying superb music😄😃🎵🎶🎶🎶!!! YES💪💪💪!!! We are winning together!!!
Same for me, had a Mani and I just got the MP-200. Thanks for the great advice! Btw what gain settings do you recommend on the Mani with the MP-200? Thx!!
Quentin Giroud Dear Buddy Quentin👋😄ENJOY!!!! Okies, you can set at 42dB or 48dB....depending also on the sensitivity of the speakers vs the amplifier used, vs how big your room is, vs how loud would one usually listen to the music material🎵🎶, one may choose 42dB or 48dB 😄both are good. Have fun and warmest regards Buddy! Congrats for the World Cup win⚽️🏆!!
Genuinely the most welcoming introduction I had years ago into vinyl. You made me understand the difference between music that reaches the ear and goes no further and music that is visceral. Life changing.
Ian Ian Ian ……1. Your musical ear is astonishing…I am a musician, playing guitar for last 4 decades, pianist and trained classical violinist shifter to jazz rock, acomposer and do my own recording ad mixing. I find your perception one of the most astute and refined. 2. You are the world’s greatest secret undiscovered music critic….your vocabulary is so so rich, and deep and your expressions capture layers of music that one doesn’t think about. Hats off to your Language! 3. This detailed analysis of carts is one of a kind …you are a gem, a platinum, nay you are my personal reference standard ! Pls share your mail id, so I can get to reach out to you.
Ian, these videos, even many years after they were made, are so interesting, entertaining and educational, I have nothing but gratitude for all the effort you put into making them (filming, editing, etc). I wish you'd make more! 🙏
Thank you. Reading your background has truly opened my eyes to what a gift and sacrifice you have made for all of us. This gift supersedes a fantastic cartridge or turntable, this is a human gift, filled with spirit and kindness. You have performed a service for us that would make your teachers and advisers proud to know that you have taken their life lessons to heart. For all you do I can only thank you kindly and send you a warm embrace from Michigan. Cheers brother in vinyl. - Luis

Ian - Hello from Canada. I love your energy and passion! I greatly appreciate how you edit the comparative sound clips, by far the best review channel I've ever come across, truly excellent! You have undoubtedly helped a lot of people. Just purchased an MP-500 for one of my tables, really looking forward to hearing it!
I just received my mp-200h. The first thing to do was to set the overhang and alignment; because it isn't set correctly out of the box. My mp-110h was correct for my AT LP 120 USB table. That done, I held my breath as I dropped needle (kind of like dropping trou...) on Groundhogs, "Hogwash," LP. AMAZING! Then dropped needle on Tonto's Expanding Headband, "Zero Time." They are literally in the room with me. It's not just great sound it is PRESENT, clear, resounding, dominating, and perfect. I feel like I'm at a concert. This cartridge proves what I've been saying for years; that the right stereo cartridge can breathe life while digital can only imitate it. Frankly, I like the sound of digitally recorded music better on vinyl. I will test that with this cart, but I'm sure it will prove true. It's all about the power of real VIBRATION. This cartridge sounds better than any cart I've ever owned (and I've had quite a few over my lifetime). Thank you for reviewing this for me. You are correct in every note you made.
Watching your video here encouraged me to buy the MP-200. I was using the 2M blue previously and my god it really is a huge improvement right out of the box! I'm going through all my collection again and loving the extra detail, it's highly addictive like you said :) Your other video was also a great help setting up the cartridge by myself the first time. I always had some one else do this for me before. I'm very confident I have the MP-200 in the best position possible. Thank you very much for your videos and wish you all the best! (my setup: Technics 1210GR - MP-200, Yamaha A-S1200 amp, Monitor Audio Speakers)
Thank you John!!! My word! That beautiful solid A-S*1200*!... what a tank!!!!! Great to hear you have that MP-200 mated to your Technics *GR* too!!!! What a great super rig/system you have now at your home✌👌😄👍👍💪 Hehheh!...addictive isn't it!!!!!! Enjoy, ENJOY!!!!!💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
@@HiViNywschannel now that is my aspirational turntable set up! 1210 GR + MP-200 and a Schitt Mani phono amp... Glad to see you around here, Ian, and that you're surviving the pandemic in Singapore!
I just ordered the 2M Bronze and it's to be delivered to me on Monday. However, after watching this video, I was convinced so much, that I actually just ordered the Nagaoka cartridge for myself from the same store, and I'm sending the Bronze back the same day it arrives. This really was an excellent video for comparing cartridges that I have ever seen. Keep up the great work! I'm a new subscriber as of today. 😊👍
Thank you Buddy from Spain!!! Gracias!! You say it SPOT ON. X+Y = really X+Y? Rarely indeed my brother :-D . Warmest Regards and hope you are enjoying your vinyl music and having the kinship of vinyl buddies around you!! ~ian
Dearest Ian ! You have made a life changing contribution to me….MP200….just got it today,,,,installed….and getting started. This video was a revelation…. I used to think I am an audiophile…but heard this and my jaw dropped.
Greetings Ian!!! Thanks so much for your informative, timely reviews! I know it takes a lot of hard work putting together the sound clips and so on, but it sure is worth it to all of us vinyl lovers. Last week I took delivery of a MP-200, and I got it installed last weekend. It is not even broken in yet, but I must say FANTASTIC sound!!! I'm 57 years old and have been listening to and buying vinyl for over 40 years now -- and I'm not sure I have heard better than this. I see no need to buy any cartridge more expensive than this, when you can get so much quality here. I know it's not the best, but to my ears very, very good! A+ My previous cartridge was a Dynavector, and I always assumed that I would get another Dynavector. However, in the past few years the Dynavector cartridge prices have gone sky high $$$$!!! I assumed I would be spending a fistful of money. Then I saw your reviews and did other research for many months. I finally purchased the MP-200, and I run it into a (vintage 1995) conrad johnson PV10A preamp MM input -- another good reason for the MP-200, I don't have to mess with outboard phono preamp or head amp or step-up transformer. It's been many, many years since I owned a MM/MI cartridge, and I must say that Nagaoka is truly one of the best kept secrets out there. May you live long and prosper spreading your word of vinyl good cheer, and may Nagaoka live long and prosper!!! As long as they keep making replacement styli, I am all set....
Dear Steve, Thank you so much for your time, writing to me. It has been with a lot of personal sacrifices and hard work, to drive through this commitment all these past four years. I am very touched, to receive your kindness, friendship and support. Thank you very, very much my friend. :-D Yes, nagaoka is an unknown item to me before 2014 too! I remembered my Avid retailer, Mr Sammy, though NOT the retailer for nagaoka cartridges (there are no nagaoka distributors in Singapore), brandishing his Nagaoka MP-110 on his Avid Diva and Ingenium turntables back in 2014. I was surprised to see that yellow simple cart and with the words "nagaoka" across the front. Nagaoka what? But I thought, Sammy must have very, very good reasons for using this brand of carts. Hmm!!!!!! :-D I kept in mind about this brand of carts, and when I started this commitment of getting to the very best of equipment to strengthen newbies and experienced vinyl-audiophiles engagement in this most wonderful hobby of ours :-D. :-D the rest is history, as they say. I am very pleased to have discovered Nagaoka as much as you. Totally thrilled and extremely grateful too, that extremely great sound DO exist and can exist at affordable and reasonable price points!!! YAY :-D !!!!!!! Yes, a moving permalloy (and not MC) that does the trick and more, and without all the hassle, efforts and cost of an outboard phono preamp or head amp or step-up transformer as you can plug it direct to a very capable Conrad Johnson preamp with built-in phono :-D !!!!!! I congratulate you Buddy Steve!!! Hi five :-D !!! And may we all live long and prosper in our common journey of vinyl music adoration and enjoyment!!!! Warmest Regards my friend, ~ ian.
This one tops it all coz i'm using this one since last year. I followed your advice for Mani and MP-150 but the only available in the Philippines is MP-200. Wow!! this is the ultimate one. My old records really sounds like fresh very low surface noise and all you can hear are pure music. Even my mom told me if i'm playing some live concert in the living room. It comes with a high price but worth a million. Thanks for a great review!!! More power!
Brother Elpidio!!! WOW you have the MP-200!!!!!!!!! Your "old records really sounds like fresh very low surface noise and all you can hear are pure music."!!!! Even your mum feels like there is a LIVE CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "high price but worth a million"... I will pin this comment Buddy Elpidio. More power to you too my fellow ASEAN brother!!!! Best Regards!!! ~ ian
Dear Ian, I had been on my vinyl journey for about six months before I found you channel. Vinyl is an immensely expensive hobby (not just for a student like me). But with your channel it doesn't have to be! Your videos with extensive side-to-side-to-side comparisons have been invaluable in getting the heaviest bang for my buck. I started with a basic setup: a cheap modern DUAL TT, AT95e cartridge, ONKYO A-9010 amp and Canton Karat 200 speakers. (This actually didn't sound bad at all.) But right now I'm proud to have an SL1210MK2, Schiit Mani, Nagaoka MP-110. And my music listening has been elevated to a meditative goosebumpy eargasm marathon. THANK YOU! I was very lucky and didn't even have to spend that much. I stayed patient and bought most of my stuff used when the right opportunity came along. As a graphic design student I'm currently working on my bachelor thesis. The topic? An illustrated guide to finding, buying and setting up your first hi-fi turntable system! Channels like yours are a big inspiration! Oh, and my JNP-200 stylus is on its way. :)
WOW ....:-D buddy you have gotten it since last summer!?!!!! You are one lucky buddy!!!! I had only fully runned it in 6 weeks ago.... it is so addictive. Engrossing and beautiful. Balanced, clear, dynamic and immersive... my goodness.... what took me so long :-D. Buddy, thank you for catching up yet again!! I hope you have a good night's rest. Warmest Regards, yours, ~ ian
Bonjour from Ottawa, Ian! After buying the Schiit Mani last month based on your phono preamp review, I have also bought the Nagaoka MP-200 new on eBay to replace my Ortofon 2M Bronze which I got only last month as well. The Mani is a significant improvement over the built-in phono stage of my Emotiva XSP-1 stereo preamp. Even more so, the MP-200 is a very significant improvement over the Bronze! And I've only got about 10 hours of break-in so far... It was an obvious improvement out of the box! Quite impressive, to say the least. Your review of the Bronze vs. the MP-200 in your other video is VERY accurate; the quality of streaming over UA-cam only renders some of the very obvious differences between the two cartridges heard in person. I am literally floored by the improvement a simple and relatively inexpensive change in phono preamp and cartridge did in my system over the past 60 days. The Mani and the MP-200 together really gave me the $2,000 system upgrade equivalent you mentioned in this video! And with this I'm quite happy to have extracted at a relatively small cost that much more audiophile sound from my current system, which also relies on an Emotiva XPA-2 for amplification and a pair of Magnepan MMG for speakers. Now, I look forward to your upcoming review of the StudioDeck vs the Rega P3. Those two TTs are definitely on my upgrade radar. I am starting to wonder however if I can much improve the sound of my mint 30-year old Denon DP-6000 direct drive turntable with Micro-Seiki arm, now that it runs the MP-200 through the Mani... Or maybe I should now consider upgrading the speakers? I've been looking at moving up to the Magnepan 1.7 on the used market (I just love the sound of planars). Any thoughts on that path, dear Ian? Not bad when great reviews actually make you rethink your component upgrade strategy! Again, thank you for your honest, knowledgable work, Sir!
I have bought and sold 4 pairs of Maggies over the years. when they are good they are untouchable. but its not always easy make them shine. Amps become your haunting after a while. moving to a really good integrated from my tube pre/solid state power combo and gonna try some efficient full tower speakers. This madness never ends!!!
I too have the same Amp and Preamp from Emotiva. I enjoy the combination. I have a Rega Planar 2 with Nagaoka MP-110. It sounds great. I may upgrade to a 150 or 200 soon. My speakers are Klipsch RF-62 ii. I would love a set of MMG speakers one day
psst you can get EAR 834p copy for a better price and unbelievable performance. all my skeptic & cheapskate friends sold their phono preamps after a listen (including Schiit Mani) and get the fully assembled EAR 834p tube phono preamp copy from Alibaba. Schiit Mani is good, but this is better overall. just a suggestion for your own experience
I can tell you that the mp200 sounds amazing through my AirPod max. Thank you Mani for this compréhensive and usefull review of the nagaokas…God bless you
I ordered a MP-200 today based on your reviews. I was impressed with the MP-150 but the 200 seems to be the total package at a reasonable price point. Thank you Ian!
Hello my dearest friend! Thanks to you i’m now super happy with my rega p3, schiit mani and nagaoka mp200 setup! For my wife and i your reviews are always a joy . Thanks my friend!
Brother💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪your combination is TOP CLASS. I have just finished auditioning the 3 phonostages too, which is upcoming: the MoFi StudioPhono, the Vincent PHO-8 and the Tisbury Audio Domino. The Schiit Mani leaves all of them trailing EONS behind. I am so happy for you both✌😄👍🎶🎵🎶🎶!!!
Ian, my friend, I didn't think it could get any better? But now we learn that the MP-200 stretches the bounding of HiFi even further. Wonderful review, the audio tracks do not lie. Thank you for posting this review. [thumbsup]
Dear Buddy :-D !! Great to see you again!! How are you? :-D yes....the mp200 amazingly stretches the boundaries even further, and significantly than the mp150, which I find startling for a hundred dollars more! Can't believe it still. The differences are significant. wow.
I love you vids and what you say here is true and more but I find the mp150 more musical, it pulls me into it and captivates me. How much clarity and extension etc. do I need to hear. The description you give is accurate but at the expense of its musically entertainment for me. Thank you for sharing your evaluation of the differences. I wish you the very best.
I have a nagaoka mp110 because of your reviews. I wasn't sure if I would even be able to notice the difference over UA-cam (150 vs 200). But you really can, hear more details and a tighter bass. This cart is pretty amazing! I want one, even though I probably don't need it. :)
What other purchase can equally transform your listening experience? If you have at least 100 LP's then this $340 cartridge on a suitable turntable and tonearm would be worth the money.
Dear Buddy, thank you too for your time coming by again... i am sorry i missed your message earlier... :-D let us continue to enjoy our vinyl analog blisssss !! Warmest Regards ~ ian
Just added the Mp500 stylus to my mp 200 cartridge which I've been listening to for 4 months. It's a definite improvement over the mp200 stylus. Sounds a lot smoother in the high miss and tops. Bass is lower. Image detail has improved. Great upgrade to an already great cart. This is a brand new stylus that sounds great without burn in contrary to what I've read.
@@thedoctoronelove Did the same to my MP-150, and agree. Treble is more refined, mids are lush and textured, separation is incredible, and bass is tight, dynamic, and defined with the MP500 stylus. Love it.
Your channel is the best! You are providing a tremendous service, my friend. You allow me to make better and more informed decisions! Please keep doing what you do! Thank you very much!

Vinyl buddies, yes, must stick together! You provide a great and much needed service! We are a dying breed and it gets more and more difficult to walk a decent audio path unless we have an experienced tour guide helping us determine what is good and what is lesser. As my record collection increases, I have found that more and more of my records are second-hand, so after a good cleaning of these second-hand records, it's very important to have a stylus that can carry the load. I want to get the most out of my equipment and your reviews help so much! And, no matter how good one's sound system can be, I am sure that you'll agree that it's only as good as the stylus on your turntable! Thank you again, my friend! You should know that I just ordered the MP-200 from Amazon and my decision was solely was based on this review!
I know it’s been a long time but I still enjoy your videos. Recently purchased a Denon DP-3000NE turntable and am seriously considering a MP-200 cartridge. Stay well Ian.
Greetings from Kentucky I started noticing the open high end when you were talking about the base response, I got confused and had to listen two more times. Great job on difficult topic.
Ian, Thank you for great review. I want you know I’ve been watching every videos you posted here. Because of your honest reviews, I’ve bought a Technics SL-1200Mk5(from eBay Japan). I've been eagerly awaiting, and really excited to hear your review of the MP-200, Ian. Its certainly worth the wait. I won't add or takeaway from anything you've stated as I agree 100% with your observations of this fabulous gem of a cartridge. I concluded my purchase was a wise investment. I've been accused by some of being a Nagaoka fan boy. Well all I can say is; "when they keep producing cartridges of this caliber, I will take such comments as a compliment" ... Thanks for your time and valued effort, Ian 👍

Hey Ian! I was in Tokyo a couple of months back and went into the Yodabashi store @ Shinjuku. I was deciding between the MP150 or 200 and finally deciding on the latter. I got a great deal on it too. I totally agree with your review. With an additional hundred bucks, you get so much out of listening to this. One of the best return of investments ever. Great details, harmonics and resonance. Love It!
Yodabashi and Bic Camera got part of the prime real estate near the Shinjuku station, the world's busiest. I'm sure they both do enough business to pay for the astronomical rent.
Thank you Ian for another great review, as always, comprehensive, well researched and honest. Your way of breaking down the music into elements focusing on the various parts of the spectrum makes it much easier to know what to look for. And having A/B parts presented sequentially with clear explanations and on screen text allow us to understand the point you’re trying to make. Full marks to you. Thanks to an earlier review, I’m now the proud owner of an MP150 which I’ve mounted in my ageing Rega P3 2000. I’ve never heard better analog sound in my system!

Hi Ian, First I want to thank you for your time & devotion for what you are doing. I bought a 200 around the 1st of the year and it has just been sitting, wating to be installed. I have been content with a top of the line nos audux. I am now going to install the 200 to experience the magic for myself. I will fill you in on what I think......

Ian - The difference was striking with this one. I was pretty impressed with the MP-110 but this added a whole new dimension to things. Not really a bad investment for a little more money. Great track selection to highlight the differences across the range of frequencies as always.
Dearest Buddy Paul, thank you for your kind time again... the 110 is still my daily commute to vinyl joy. $100 more for the 200 than the 150 for the kind of significant improvements...yes.. not bad at all! May your family and you have a good Texas summer :-D !!! ~ ian

I've been anticipating this review for quite a long time and I'm so incredibly happy that the MP-200 is such an excellent performer. The MP-110 has been wonderful for me. I've already purchased the 200 a few days and I'm so much more excited for it to arrive! Take care Ian and I hope you're doing well! Kimo
Wow Buddy Kimo.... :-D you are another buddy who bought the MP-200 so early!!!! Gosh!!!!!!! What is happening to everybody :-D!?!!! It's so hard these days ( in the UK anyway) to go into a dealer and audition a range of cartridges. It was a lot easier in the 70's/80's when vinyl was king.I really applaud what you do on this channel.OK it's only UA-cam audio but you can clearly here the difference between the cartridges and your vocal descriptions are excellent.Cheers mate.
Dear Brother Chris from the U.K. :-D thank you for coming here and writing to me. And with sunshine now! Enjoy the good weather Buddy!!
For what it's worth, I've been running an MP200 for a while now and after using a few phono stages, I can recommend the Sutherland KC Vibe as a fantastic match for the MP200. The synergy is bonkers.
Dear Buddy Dale!! Thank you for catching up!! :-D Thank YOU!!!!! See you soon, and anytime!! Warmest Regards to you and your family, and yes, we march on faithfully with your vinyl analogue journey! Hi five :-D
Hello Ian. Yet another satisfying and great review! Finally, the MP150 is beaten by its elder sibling... :) I find this is a good thing, actually. That just shows that Nagaoka product classification from MP110, MP150 to MP200 does genuinely show incremental refinement in musical reproduction, and not just simply changing the colour and number of the cartridges and sell it at a higher price! The differences are noticeable. Kudos to such honest and competent company. That also means that it's time to save up for the next upgrade :) For the bass comparison , I couldn't really make out the subtle differences (except for the better timing and rhythmic part), which could be due to UA-cam compression and the short demo clips. However, the rest of the comparison did show the strength of the 200 over the 150 in terms of "peeling off another layer to reveal the exquisiteness of musicality". That's exactly how I felt the the clips were played one after another. Addictive... yes. The differences are better felt than described. Enjoy the MP200! I am jealous :P
Dear Brudder :-D "from MP110, MP150 to MP200 does genuinely show incremental refinement in musical reproduction, and not just simply changing the colour and number of the cartridges and sell it at a higher price!"... gosh indeed!! phew.... no cheating us consumers of money by making marketing claims and changing the colours/exterior only... i heaved a sigh of relief that my investment is not waylaid :-D... and i believe you are enjoying every moment of the solid SL1200GR!!!!!!!!! Have a lovely evening with your family, Best Regards my friend, my brother. ~ ian.
The added bass weight and extension make it easier to hear how the bass player and drummer interact and how they accent the beat patterns. For example when I heard the Clean Bandit samples, the MP-200 allowed the bass drum accents on beats 1 and 3 to stand out while the drummer played "four on the floor."
I have a Denon DL-160 on my Rega P3 and really want to upgrade. I've outgrown the cart w/upgrades to the TT. I'm really stuck between the Nagaoka MP-200 and the Goldring 1042. On your rec I bought an MP-110 for a previous TT and really loved it's sound. Your vid and previous rec is making me lean toward that 200. I really want to thank you for taking the time and making these vid's. As well as spending your own money. This whole community GREATLY appreciates your effort. Especially since, where I live in Phoenix AZ, we don't have a shop that will let us hear carts before we buy. Keep it up my friend!!
Dear Buddy :-D thank you for coming by and catching up again! Sorry I did not reply your message a month ago, apologies my friend........sorry. :-D I have yet to do my detailed shoot-out between the MP-200 and GR 1042, and thus i am sorry for not being able to let you know the results and any differences. I thank you for your kindest words to me and my efforts... really boost up my energy and warms my heart!! Thank you my friend!!!! I hope you and your vinyl-playing friends in Phoenix have lots of fun onwards in your journey!!!
I have heard from more than one person that the Goldrings tend to be delicate as far as build goes. on the 1012 I've heard of stylus tips breaking off. Also due to low clearance they won't track a warped record. Yeah I agree warped records are few and far between but just food for thought. I'm a proud owner of a MP-200 and the cart is fantastic!
@@HitsTownUSA really happy to see you Brother and receive your kindness and friendship🤗.... I am glad to receive your feedback in the Goldrings 1000 series carts, regarding their low clearance and warped record trackability👋😄👍!!! Have a super nice weekend ahead Buddy!!🏡🎶🎵🎶🎶
Thanks once again. My Rega planar 3 makes a great shelf. Terrible turntable. Worst wow flutter ever and porrly made. I've upgrade to an sl1200 mk3 and can no longer hear speed fluctuations. I just ordered the Nagaoka mp200h with headshell. Thanks for making the decision of which cartridge to buy easy.
BarakaPDub nailed it: the Rega P3's potential greatly exceeds its stock performance. He made the aftermarket upgrades and stuck with it, but it doesn't compete well in the US market.
Ian, my dearest friend, you so inspired me to give this Nagaoka cartridge a serious look. Received it on Friday from Japan. Listening the past 2 days to my records, some of them over 50 years old, brought happy tears to my eyes! You are spot on with this sound. The staging is right on. The records of the late 60's and early 70's were known to be of lesser fidelity than prior years. I will tell you that this cartridge brings out such clarity, bringing them to life on my old Dual 1218 turntable. The Alan Parson's "Gaudi" album has instruments that I hadn't heard before with my Empire 4000/D-I 4-channel cartridge with Shibata stylus! Absolutely loving this cartridge on all genres of music so far! Thanks again from your friend in South Carolina, USA!
Dear Brother Juergen :-D !!! This MP-200 is just crazy. Really crazy. It gives me such quality, refinement and discovery at a price point that easily knocks many MC cartridges off, even if these MC carts are played through expensive phonostages. I do not believe in dogma... and dogmatic talk about "MC carts offer better refinement and detail than MM carts" are just not favourable in our common quest of LISTENING TO OUR MUSIC. Brother :-D !!!! Thank you so much for writing to me, and to us (as many fellow friends are reading too) with your kind update. May you have a lovely Saturday evening with your loved ones :-D Warmest Regards, ~ ian.
Brother, you and I still enjoy our MP-110 and Mani as always. I will never let the MP-110 out of my sight, out of my ownership, out of my system, out of my ears :-D!! Hi five Buddy!! Thank you for catching up again!!! See you Bro!! ~ ian
Hello Ian another fantastic review! Nagaoka strikes again! One can only imagine how magnificent the MP-500 must be. I have to again highlight how I love your passion for MUSIC and not just Hi-Fi for the sake of Hi-Fi. Salutations my friend!!
Buddy Martin, enjoy your MP110! I enjoy my MP110 everyday. I just bought a replacement stylus for the MP110 too :-D !!! Thank you buddy...for coming by again and your well wishes!!!! I am sure you too spread your own aura of passion and influence to your friends and new budding vinylphiles around you :-D !!! Cheers cheers my friend!! See you soon, anytime. ~ ian
One more thing; Audacity loves my mp-200. When the roo hit a surface snap it is a 1 pixel sharp spot on the screen---easy to see. Also, they are so sharp that Audacity can isolate the pop easily and remove it. The mp-110 is good for that too, but not as good as the 200. Just FYI.
Ian- thank you so much for your detailed rewiew of the Nagaoka MP-200. I just got mine and wow!!! Using through an all tube system and it is the best i have heard. Waiting on Mani phono amp to come in. Again thanks Ian!!
Hi Ian, I've been watching this video several times already and I'm still quite shocked to hear how good the MP-200 cartridge! This will be my next cartridge to purchase for sure, hopefully within this year or so! Keep up with the good work and looking forward to your upcoming shootout of the MoFi turntable!
Buddy!!! How are you in Canada :-D !!!!!! Mm goi sai!!...coming by again and chatting up with me!!!! May your lovely records have a good time on a Saturday evening being spun!! Your Teresa Teng's records....inherited from your parents and added further by you? :-D
Hey Ian, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier! Anyways, I only have one Teresa Teng LP in my collection as they are very hard-to-find in Canada! Been trying to find a couple more to add but they're expensive online! :O
Dear Buddy Kevin...regards to you in the U.K.!!! Apologies still i have not had the chance to catch the phonoboxds+ and 2xperience SB. I hope you are having a good spell of weather in Summer!!! Flowers blooming and lots of outdoor parades and activities! Warmest Regards, ~ ian:-D
Thanks a lot. Very pleased by the cartridge after 6 months of marriage with my turntable. We compared it with a Denon DL103 recently and it blasted the Denon on the less than 1khz resolution. Moreover, it has a delicious voice rendition. Thanks for the advice.
Dear Buddy Olivier...thank you so much for your kind update and very, very kind time catching up with an old friend here. Yes I hope all have been very well on your vinyl front and more💪😄!!! Your update is invaluable to all of us!!!! Amazing!! Thank you!!!!!! Warmest Regards to your family and friends too🎶🎵🎶🎶🌞
Thank you Ian! Again you are the voice of truth for those of us who are not able to do what you do. I'm so backwards on this latest review. Example; you are talking about the bass and I'm already hearing a big difference in the treble, especially with the cymbals. You are talking about midrange and I am clearly hearing the bass advantage with the 200. Your description of "more refinement" is the way I would say it. I've heard one comparison of the MP-200 a few months ago. It really drew my attention and I found myself going back to that review again and again. Even though it's through a limited digital recording, I was impressed to the point of making a MP-200 my future goal. Many friends on a forum say they like the MP-150 better, and complain that the MP-200 is too bright or fatiguing with the boron cantilever. I disagreed but worried that they could be right. I doubted my ears. I thought the 200 was very detailed but not fatiguing. But as always, opinions vary and I"m glad that you reviewed it as I really trust your judgment. Thank you brother! I'm looking forward to the next review with the PL-3. David
Lily is doing well. She sends her love to Moko! But now she complains that I don't take her for car rides like you take Moko.... I guess I'll have to start taking her shopping for vinyl.
i've been using an mp200 for about 2 years now, and after racking up almost 200hrs on it, have purchased the jnp-500 stylus (it fits, minus the locking screws) and it sounds wonderful - the mp200 is a bit 'smoother' but the mp500 contact line grabs more treble detail and i can say that i have no more IGD on any records - and the *snappy* character of the mp200 is retained. the original elliptical wasn't terrible in that regard, but i could hear it occasionally.
Ian - as always your videos are very informative and i look forward to the next. I have owned the MP-200 for several months and paired with my SL-1200 MKII makes the sweetest sound to my ears. I started with the MP-110 based on your video and leaped straight to the MP-200 several months later. I hope you plan to conduct a MP-300 & MP-500 in the near future. Thanks so much for your videos !
J S Dear Buddy👋...yes the SL1200...the deck that everybody should have, and for many reasons!!! Wow you leapt from 110 to 200!!! You sure must be enjoying yourself in listening a lot💪😄🎵🎶!!!! We have cartridge accidents....i believe of us all had, but good that it wasn't a too expensive one for you. 💪sweetest sound for you always Buddy!!! And thank you for catching up😄!!
Hi Ian! Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job with this shoot-out with the MP-200! It’s just a crazy good cartridge, huh? Your extremely detailed description is just so accurate, and on point. You wonderfully cover every nuance of this top notch cartridge. It’s so good that it almost gives you the feeling of actually swimming around through the music you’re listening to at the time. It just makes you totally immersed in the music. Once again, another stellar review of an amazing Hi-Fi component, which I am sure will cause people to take the plunge with this cartridge after your pin point accurate description! I cannot wait for the MoFi and Rega deck review. I hope you are enjoying the MoFi deck in the meantime, especially with the MP-200 on it! Thank you so very much for pinning my comment for your last review. It meant a lot to me, my friend!
Nick Pantazi Dear Buddy Nick👐😄your previous video comment was pinned because it was SPOT ON!!... and your description of the 200 here is spot on again!! So apt😃!!!!!: "...gives you the feeling of actually SWIMMING around through the music....totally immersed in the music." My goodness, yes!!..swimming around in the music😄😄😄!!!!! Indeed very fluid and immersive. Let us look forward to the studiodeck review with its shoot-out vs the p3. 💪😄see you my friend and thank you for your kind time and friendship again. Best regards!!..
Was due to purchase the 150 based on yours and other reviews. Now I'm on hold and saving for the 200. The difference is amazing. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer for musical nirvana. Great review by the way😉
Buddy Tony, please help yourself!!! The 200 is heavenly. Expensive to me, but surprisingly: crazy value!!!!!!! 👋😄👍!!! Warmest Regards my friend, and have a great weekend, Sunday ahead!!!🤗🎶🎵🎶🎶
Dear Brother, good to see you! Yes each step with the 110-150-200 is so far....well worth it (fortunately for the money i had spent). May you continue to have a lovely vinyl journey!!! See you!
Wonderful review, Ian. I replaced my Ortofon Bronze with Nagaoka 150, as per your review and suggestion. Totally blown away now that the 150 has settled in. It is everything you said it would be. I intend, as others have said in the comments, plan to upgrade to the purple 200 stylus on the green 150 body when the 150 is due for replacement. The colors might look like an Easter egg though :^) It is curious that Nagaoka gives such a short lifespan for stylus wear? I am using the Schiit Mani (again, based upon your positive review) with a Music Hall mmf -7.3 with great success. Keep up the fine work you do. You have the best HiFi reviews on UA-cam, hands down, Ian! Cheers from the States.
Thank you Michael :-D Great to see you again after a year!!! I hope this message finds you and your family in good health and energy!! I am laughing big time about the "Easter Egg" concoction!! Indeed : Light bakelite green top with a purple lower front :-D . I have been running my MP110 for about 1000-1500hours prior before a change...it has been used extensively to run in phonostages for my review ;-D, as for the MP150, about 800 hours now and sound quality 100% okay: extended, dynamic and detailed. Have fun with the Mani and 150!!!!!!!! 7.3 as well! Have a good morning Buddy as i start watching Sweden-Mexico-Germany-Korea at 10pm now here :-D Thank you Brother for so kindly writing in to me. Appreciate your efforts, behind the scenes all these while...take care buddy!!! Catch up, anytime. Warmest Regards~ ian
HiViNyws channel thanks, for the stylus life info, Ian! I always stress over such things. Enjoy the games! I hope Korea pulls it off. Have you thought about Patreon to help defray your costs?
Dear Buddy Michael, thank you very much for your very kind message, about me having Patreon to help defray the costs. I have thought about it previously but decided not, coz I really want to be clear of any possible moles from manufacturers/retailers masquerading as donors, and later on them revealing they are from any manufacturer/retailer. Call me old-fashioned...:-D but eventually I made the tough decision to do it without any financial help. It will be very, very tough on me, but I tell myself that I will just have to work harder and make more sacrifices for the cause. Continuing, I can keep my channel clean inwardly and outwardly. 100% clean is very different from 99.9999% clean. I want 100% because I commit myself totally to my fellow vinyl friends and buddies in the community.
HiViNyws channel you are a good man, Ian. You have kind of Zen purist approach to your avocation. I commend you for not being a shill for outside interests or obligated to undue influences. This is likely why you are trusted and respected for giving your subscribers the unbiased truth as YOU see and hear it. Much respect.
Dear, dear buddy Ian, I am going to get a Nagaoka mp 200 cartridge. It's a matter of time by now. It is a big sacrifice - italian musicians are far to be "wealthy" people - but I truly believe in this upgrade. At the moment I have a Rega Bias 2. I just wanted to share this intention with a dear person like you. My greatful appreciation.
Dear Buddy Andrea :-D!!!! WOW you getting the MP-200!! .. sorry for my 15hrs' late reply. It is 8pm now and my wife and I are at a breezy coffeehouse. I had seen your message much earlier but I was on the road and running some errands :-D Brother, just to let you know again, if ever Trigonõs launch an LP, count me in. I hope to hear your vocal performance and your band of brothers' performance!!! Studio or live, I am all ears!!! MP-200, Mani... you'd be in audio heaven. Brother, may i ask again, what is your turntable-tonearm? I had forgotten about it. Best Regards Buddy, I really congratulate you for having both the MP-200 and the Mani. They are just stupendous.
Hi everyone, I bought the MP-200 based on your review and I am so happy I did! It is even better than I expected with great separation and proper timbre. I plan to match it with the new Technics 1200GR and possibly KAB damper. Great detail without sounding hard already after 10 hrs use. Anyone that already have the 1200GR or KAB damper care to comment on a match up? Thanks L
Hehhhehheh!!!! WELL DONE my friend💪😄✌ an absolute win for you! This is going to be a long, long, long journey of vinyl analogue bliss for you and your family! I am sure your GR will be a keeper too and to do duties for many, many years🌿🌿🌿. Kudos and yup!...have fun with the KAB damper and more tweaks along the way for your fun Technics!!! Warmest Regards, may uou and your family be well and happy, safe and healthy 🍀😄🎶🎵🎶🎶
Dear Buddy Charlie :-D thank you for your time!!! and the friendship. What i love a lot about the vinyl community is that we are warm and loving people (more than digital hardcore fans, i don't know why) :-D...we march on Buddy with our appreciation of vinyl analogue music!! Hi five and warmest regards brother!
was waiting for this review for awhile ,thanks for the hard work as i am in the market for a new cartridge and i was looking to choose the 150 or the 200 you have certainly helped me make the right choice thanks again
Hello Ian I've been following your channel for a long time now (3 or 4 years I think) and my friend this is just to say thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I started viewing your channel when I had a AT-LP120 with an AT VM510CB, and when I saw your reviews instantly tried to switch to grado black, that whas not available in my country so purchased a Grado Red. That was the moment I started to be a Ian Believer. Now I have a Schiit Mani, Rega RP3 (it's almost impossible to get a good SL-1200 here), and since today, Nagaoka MP200 (to save money, I purchased a MP150 and a year later swithed the stylus) so, what can I say, Thank you sooooo much dear friend. Your channel is a must for anyone who wants to assemble a good vinyl listening setup
Buddy with the Mani and MP110!! :-D ....thank you so much for catching up my friend!!! Thank YOU!!!! How are you ? Fyi, i will never let the 110 out of my sight, out of my system, out of my ears....too good to be true... brilliant and extremely enjoyable always :-D!!! ~ ian
I'm just fine brother. And yes, I have the Mani as well. Fantastic combination! Looking forward to your comparison between the P3 and the StudioDeck. You rock!
Dear Buddy Robert :-D i am happy to see you again!!! How are you doing? Love your comments on previous videos.... very, very apt. And yes continue to enjoy your Sansui SR-222Mk2 :-D! !!!!! Grado Black!!!
Dear Buddy!!! I see you have a Rega Planar 3!!!!! :-D Thank you for your time and friendship Buddy!!! May you have a beautiful vinyl journey always!!! See you Buddy!!! ANytime, any updates from your system too!
I have to ask you this question. I have just restored and serviced a technics 1210 mk2. I set it up with the cartridge I use with my own rp3. It sounded very dull compared to my rega, though I did upgrade my rega some with motor separated from the plinth, but still. I really expected more from the 1210. How do you think it compares to your rp3? Best regards, and thank you for your great content. 👌🎼
I have an MP-200 stylus on my MP-110 body. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this. You're getting the boron cantilever, but not the better internals for the 200's body. I'm sure it's not quite as good as an MP-200, but it's a notable upgrade over the 110, and I'd be interested in how you think it compares to the MP-150.
Robert I was looking for this information if I can put the mp-200 onto my mp-110 body. Glad it’s compatible. Are you saying you don’t get the full effect of the cartridge if it’s not on the 200 body.
I was really looking for this! it still blew me away at some parts comparing to MP-150. The moment with triangles put me at awe. Didn't expect that triangle can sound so vivid. Thank you for the journey! :) I own a Nagaoka MP-110 (thanks to you review btw) and really like it. Altough I think it have some struggles with heavy kind of music (Rock, Trash, Metal, etc.), but with electronic, jazz and bass heavy music it sounds superb. While MP-200 is way over my budget, maybe in future I will have a chance to grab one :) Glad to see that Nagaoka can offer a great carts at different price ranges that can suit one's budget.
@Max P. Hey man, did you ever get an MP-150 or MP-200? I listen to mostly metal(thrash, death, doom, old school metal) so your comment really grabbed my attention. I wanna try a Nagaoka cart and thinking of bypassing the MP-110 and going straight to an MP-150 or MP-200. Really curious to know your impressions of those last two carts for metal and heavy rock.
Dear Buddy, hope you are enjoying the MP-150 to bits!!! Our common superb cartridge. Very, very well respected in my family too!! They know about the greenish MP0150! :-D Thank you for your precious time catching up with me and see you soon Buddy!!! Anytime :-D
Dear Buddy :-D great to see you again! Third time we are catching up!!! Brother, it is definitely, even much better, but the issue is that saying it is worth it is still subjective: coz the MP500 is about $300+ more costly than the MP-200. Some people felt that the MP-200 is the sweet spot, and as great as things should go already :-D i have one new american friend, and he is not being snobbish, he admitted that he has $180,000 system at home now and even Lyra Etna a few years ago, but he has been happily playing with his MP-200 for the past one year, and never at all missed the Etna he sold off. I think that is how it is. I have several Thai friends who bought their MP-500 and reveled at how they enjoyed their MP-500 jaw-dropping improvement over their MP-200. Better, yes, but still, subjectively worth it as related to the price difference... "worth it" here is subjective because we are talking about $300+ difference :-D. Thank you very much for asking me my friend for my experience, and of course i can share with you experience from other friends i have made here. Warmest Regards, ~ ian.
Being that lockdowns here in The States are keeping many at home there's plenty of time to tune into your UA-cam channel and soak up your very useful, helpful info. I'm watching your MP 200 UA-cam for about the 5th or 6th time ... lol!!!! I believe the only way to truly evaluate any audio gear is to play acoustic, natural instrumentation and vocals. Full orchestra pieces and acoustic jazz recorded in late 50's/early 60' with simple micing give accurate spatial information and accurate balance through entire frequency spectrum. ... P.S.After listening to all your evals , the MP 200 is on my wish list ... gotta have it!
Yes another Ian video! Made my day! Excellent review. I really appreciate your dedication to these. I may end up getting this MP-200 cartridge. I can afford to get one twice as much but not sure if there is anything that much better unless I spend a lot more than that. Based on your description I think I would love this cartridge. How is the Croft Phono Stage working out for you?
Dear Buddy!! Is the rabbit still there in the front yard? :-D Buddy the croft is beyond good and has settled in as a permanent fixture. I emailed glenn croft that all is well too and i will not be selling it. It is a permanent fixture now. Superb performer :-D Thank you for your time again Brother :-D Mokobaby says just kissed me as I am writing to you from my seat on the floor, i told her that daddy is saying hi to Uncle ZoeyDaddy!!
We have several baby rabbits this year in the yard and Zoey is obsessed and it is hilarious. But she is still taking time to snuggle with her family. Within a year or two I would like to upgrade my phono stage from the Mani to a full sized unit. I looked at the price of the Croft and was pleasantly surprised to see that it is within my budget. I got my TT from Needle Doctor and they also sell Croft. Will put the Croft on my short list. By the way I plan on purchasing new loud speakers in 5 weeks. May be the most difficult component in hi fi to settle on. My Dad purchased a pair of Magnepan 3.7i about 2 weeks ago. He heard the 1.7i when I was auditioning and was blown away by their soundstage and excellent transparency. I thought they sounded amazing as well. They had a very nice Pro-ject TT to play my records on the Magnepans. Going to visit him in Tulsa soon to hear his 3.7i which will be lots of fun. I can't afford the 3.7i but I may get the 1.7i. Also found out that there is a Salk Sound customer in Nebraska with a new pair of Song 3A that said I can come and hear them. Going to check them out. Hope he has a turn table. Also I noticed that the Focal Electra 1028 BEs are on sale and dipped down to the top of my price range. Those may be a good option as well.
Ooooohhh.... BROTHER!!!! New Baby Rabbit... kids!!!! More kids for Zoey!!! Hahaha..... So warm. Croft..... new loudspeakers in 5 weeks!!! Your Dad in Tulsa with his spanking new Magnepan 3.7is.... oooooooooohhhhhhhh........ Checking out Salk too? You have me salivating throughout reading your message!!!!!!!!!!! Focal 1028BEs with lowered prices!?!!!! Ahhhhh..... You indulge me, i am envious!!!!!!!!!!!! Send my regards to your Dad as well!!! I always think and admire, and think it really nice that your dad and you share the same audio hobby!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY FUN!!! I can imagine if my dad plays audio too!!!!! And yes Brudder.....keep me updated!!
Dear Mario :-D . Thank you for coming by and saying hi to me! How have you been? I remember that you are into Art Blakey and jazz vinyl? :-D The MP-200 is indeed a very, very detailed cart. Very amazing, and invigorating to listen too... Brother i hope you get one too soon. It is superb.
Thank you Ian, I’m good and I'm happy that you keep reviewing 👍 Yes you are right, I was interested in Art Blakey and the jazz messengers 😀 I love old jazz music 😉
Thanks for another great review video! Can you please suggest which you believe to be the best ~500-600 dollar cartridge ? I was thinking of getting an Ortofon 2M Black MM cartridge before that video...
Dear Buddy, :-D even the $260 MP-150 (easily gotten from Japanese reputable ebay sellers) beats the $400 2M Bronze. I think you know :-D what the result would be for the 2M Black (which I have, but have not put out the full review yet). Go for the MP-200 my friend. You will be extremely surprised and happy++++++ with its breathtaking performance!!!! :-D Warmest Regards buddy and have a great weekend :-D of vinyl fun! ~ ian
AnalogueInQatar Dear Buddy💪😄🤗👋😊!!!! Yay!!! I see you again!!! Thank you for your time!!!! Hahaha....we love our common tools. We sing on Brother🎶🤸♂️🎶🎶!!!Warmest Regards!
True 356 The MP-110, MP-150, and MP-200 share the same cartridge body type, but not exactly the same internals. The MP-300 onwards are completely different from previously mentioned cartridges, and are not compatible. I tried an MP-200 stylus in an MP-110 body just to see. Results were surprisingly good, but after careful prolonged listening the complete MP-200 cartridge was superior.
tweaker man Sorry tweaker man. Did you mean you upgraded the cartridge to the MP-500 ... I know some call the whole cartridge a "stylus" sometimes ... I'm starting to think that's what you meant?
Dearest, dearest Chris. Thank you for sharing with fellow friends the MP internal differences. Very pertinent. Thank you Chris.... your time for friends, your resourcefulness and experience. Yours always, ~ ian
Hello chris, the nagaoka pm110 has the same cartridge body as the pm500, so all you do is upgrade the stylus, I've spoken to nagaoka & that's what they told me & I imported it direct from Japan, it cost me £180.00 + uk Duty of £45, much cheaper than buying it in the uk. One more thing, do get confused with the cartridge bodys being different colour, the body's are all the came, the stylus is jn-pm500, I got it from eBay, they are original ones.
Hi Ian, I absolutely love your UA-cam videos! I’m currently using a Nagaoka MP 150 on my Technics SL 1100a connected to a Schiit Mani. I learned about this cart and phono stage from your videos. Thank you for all this great information. When I do decide to upgrade my cart, I’m going with Nagaoka again. Thanks again for all the advice and info!
Dear Keith🤗🙏thank you for writing back to me after your own experience in ownership!!! Mani!... MP-150!!! Outrageous performers for their price. Have fun with your sturdy Technics too of course!!!💪💪💪😄warmest regards my friend 🎶🎶🎵🎶
Buddy :-D . thank you so much yet again for catching up!!! Hahaha... yes the StudioDeck.... will kick in the bulk of the work starting today (8:30am now in Singapore)... enjoy your Mani and MP110!!!! ;-D See you soon, anytime, and all the best my friend!! Your updates? lemme know too!
HiViNyws channel Good to hear from you Ian. I am really looking forward to your honest and thorough review of the StudioDeck, as are many other of your friends on your awesome channel. I’m trying to decide which TT to buy between the Rega 3 or the MoFi StuidoDeck. Perhaps a great shootout review for you down the road? Thanks for all you do, Ian!
I have switched from at 100e to nagaoka mp150 and I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was better except some details in some songs that at100E seemed to translate with better amplitude so I taught the VM750SH will be an upgrade over the already beautiful MP150. What a TERRIBLE MISTAKE! In the only region that VM750SH seemed to win is in the bass extension however I had lost Harmonics, Voice clarity with stereo image. The AT sounds one dimensional exactly what you said! I couldn't believe before I was listening to them with my own ears. I will switch to MP200. You are a great man Ian, thank you for your time in those great reviews!
@@6Rhyme I remember that the vm750sh sounded harsh, sometimes distorted in comparison to mp150. even the at100e was a little better in my opinion because the high end was more pronounced. the vm750sh has great bass though but everything else is either distorted or too unclear. currently I own an mp500 and it matches the vm750sh in bass but with much better midrange and highs. it is way more expensive though
@@6Rhyme I personally think the best bang for the buck would be the mp150 which was really impressive. I also own an mp200 and I cannot justify the price difference, plus the mp150 seemed oriented towards more defined highs
@@Andrew-eh1bj What i heard was in this video that mp200 was a little bit louder in bas. Maybe the cantilever that is Made from boron does the job. I have a very transparant system setup whit schiit mani 2 mogami quad stereo interlinks and pioneer sa 608 whit Plx1000 turntable. Iam very curious. I paid 400 euro's for a stock B mp200 not to bad. Is it True that this stylus have only 200 hours play time? 😅 that is well expensive
Another superb review, Ian. Do you have any experience or thoughts on the MP-500? I purchased the MP-150 based on your recommendation/video and I love it. I think I may want to upgrade “to another level.” I’m wondering if the jump from MP-150 to MP-500 is significantly better than the jump from MP-150 to MP-200 or if the extra cost doesn’t bear out in the performance. If the MP-500 is worth the money, I may want to just jump to that rather than make the incremental step to the MP-200.
Jeff K I say save and go for the 500 later. Id love to have one for the reason of it being a finer stylus profile which will be much more gentle and precise while dealing with the grooves. It will surely sound better but even if not its still worth it for that I feel.
Fantastic review! Ian, I've installed the mp-110 and I'm 25 hours in! Thank you very much for pointing me the right way. I'll definitely be upgrading further up the Nagoaka line eventually. 👍👍👍👍👍😃
Dearest Eric.... thank you for your succinct and extremely useful comment on the sony-rega-project decks shoot-out always. Really helped and have been helping a lot of friends with your resourcefulness and time taken. Thank you Sir. Yours, ~ ian.
Hi friend! I’m writing again to ask you for some advice. I just bought the nagaoka mp500. I was wondering if you’ve tried it with the Schiit Mani? Is that a good match? Many thanks!!
Dear Buddy Freddy :-D yes I have ever tried it with the Schiit Mani. VERY GOOD. My friends have done it too... all over the world... Thailand, Japan, U.S., U.K. All good!!!! The email updates from them have been wonderful! Have a great weekend my friend, and thank you for catching up after a year!! Thank yoU!
Oh brohter!!! Thank you!! We enjoy our common MP110 always!! I love it so much i bought another replacement stylus so that when the time comes, there will be no downtime :-D . See you my friend! Yes, your good wife with that Christmas Nagaoka gift to you!!!
Hello Ian, first I would like to thanks you for all the videos you made so far, they are very informative! I have a question concerning the MP 200, in my place i can get it for 479€ ( i don't know if its in my country only or if the prices went up since your video) which in term of price put the mp 200 only 90€ cheaper than the Ortofon 2m black. Have you been able to listen to the 2m black so far? or have any idea how it compare to the mp 200 ? keep up the good work, kind regards from France, Martial PS: if any member of the community has owned both of those cart I'm curious to hear from you
Hi Martial!!! Thann you for dropping by!!!!! The MP-200 is easily better than the 2M Black. I have the 2M Black🤗 You can either get the MP-200 or the Goldring 1042 as the triumphant💪💪💪💪💪💪 cartridges to have in your system!!! Have fun my friend!! Stay safe and secure....health for you and your family.
@@HiViNywschannel Thanks you Ian for that fast answer ! At my dealer the goldring 1042 is 40€ cheaper than the mp200 which one is your favorite ? I will first upgrade my phono preamp currently using the one in my technics sl 1500c. i will probably get the mani in 2 months for my birthday (can't wait). I wish the best for you and your family too ! stay safe best regards, Martial PS: As a metal / hard rock fan i wonder if you have an opinion on those carst for that kind of music :)
@@HiViNywschannel Hi Ian hope your doing good, just to let you know i just purchased and installed the schiit mani in my set-up, its already an improvement compare to the pre-amp in my SL 1500C ! its currently playing with my 2M blue next upgrade will probably be the goldring 1042. thank you again for you work, have a nice day, cordially Martial.
Just installed this cart last night. First impressions are superb! Everything you analyze here rings true and then some. I loved my MP110 but this is next level in resounding ways. Thank you as always for your analysis.
Hi Ian I’m in for a new cartridge what do you recommend ,a Sumiko evo 3 or mp200 thru a Michell syncro to naim pre, power amps, audio physics Sitara speakers Thanks
Brother🤗!! Thank you for coming by! Yes the Blue Point evo iii, high output, vs the MP-200!!!!... Apologies Brother, as I have yet to have any experience playing the evo 3..and hence cannot give you any good advice here relating to the evo iii. Thank you Buddy and I hope you find your way soon🤗🎶🎵🎶✌✌
Thank you!
Tuii what turntable did you install the MP500 on and which Ortofon did you replace ? thanks

My English isn't the best either, therefore, I can at times have difficulty understanding this Asian-English dialect 😅
Since you're so nosy, embarking on the topic, I'll let you know that I would personally refrain from being a public speaker in my 3rd language, which is English.
Regardless, I acted upon his advice and purchased a premium cartridge, came back and thanked him for his advice. Please don't soil yourself.
I'm sure Ian doesn't need you as his mouthpiece, he can talk for himself, if you would allow him to, nobody wants this drama.

Best Nagaoka comparisons on YT ever. Unfortunately no more content

@@HiViNywschannel so cool reply brother
- Luis

Heehee it is 8am here and started work an hour ago...and i am really happy to receive your message my friend!!! Warmest Regards to you and your family too!! Hi five buddy!!!! ~ ian
You are correct in every note you made.
hi 200 is better than 110 ??????
Watching your video here encouraged me to buy the MP-200. I was using the 2M blue previously and my god it really is a huge improvement right out of the box! I'm going through all my collection again and loving the extra detail, it's highly addictive like you said :)
Your other video was also a great help setting up the cartridge by myself the first time.
Very rarely in the Hi-Fi world when you pay X + Y you get X + Y. This is one of them. Bravo Nagaoka! Thank you very much again, Ian.
My previous cartridge was a Dynavector, and I always assumed that I would get another Dynavector.
Dear Steve,
Thank you so much for your time, writing to me.
It has been with a lot of personal sacrifices and hard work, to drive through this commitment all these past four years. I am very touched, to receive your kindness, friendship and support.
Thank you very, very much my friend.
:-D
Yes, nagaoka is an unknown item to me before 2014 too! Hmm!!!!!! :-D
I kept in mind about this brand of carts, and when I started this commitment of getting to the very best of equipment to strengthen newbies and experienced vinyl-audiophiles engagement in this most wonderful hobby of ours :-D.
Warmest Regards my friend,
~ ian.
(This actually didn't sound bad at all.)
But right now I'm proud to have an SL1210MK2, Schiit Mani, Nagaoka MP-110.
Oooo! Might I ask you for a copy of that thesis? Would love to read it.
The MP200 is my main cartrige since last summer and i can’t love it more
WOW
....:-D buddy you have gotten it since last summer!?!!!!

Thank you Mani for this compréhensive and usefull review of the nagaokas…God bless you
Love these videos. Kept coming back over and over. Finally went from the MP-110 to MP-500. Wow! Just an amazing cart.

@@HiViNywschannel Hi great reviews, did you review the MP-500 ?
Happy New Year to you Ian!

yes....the mp200 amazingly stretches the boundaries even further, and significantly than the mp150, which I find startling for a hundred dollars more!
Thanks again for that audiophile video enjoyment! That needles sound great for the prices! I REALLY LOVE THE CHANEL!
Dear Buddy, thank you too for your time coming by again... i am sorry i missed your message earlier... :-D let us continue to enjoy our vinyl analog blisssss !!

Great review . . . please add a review of the MP500. Would be very interesting to see the contrast between price points.
Love it.

This cartridge is worth every penny and I can't thank you enough for recommending it over the Bronze I was considering. Keep spinning and uploading this top quality content 😀
Dear Karl, thank you very much for catching up here too! Yes, that effect of having your ears syringed! Exactly✌
Oh wow!! I applaud your "staying power" : having an equipment at home and not plugging it into your system immediately :-D....it is good for the soul!!! Patience you have much!! and just enjoying the journey!!! :-D
Best Regards buddy!!! ~ ian
~ ian
Hello Brother! WOW is all that I can say right now. The MP200 just exploded with sound! I can only imagine what the MP300 sounds like and the MP500 must be out of this world. As always Brother another great informative video. Long Live Vinyl!!!
Brother!!! :-D you are still angling at the MP500 after these few months... me too!!! I can't wait to run it in fully and hear it at its best!!! :-D . Buddy see you soon!!! and thank you for coming by again. Thank you for your time!!! Long Live VInyl!! Have a good evening! and see you.
:-D . ~ ian
After hearing what the MP200 can do, I am now dying to get the MP500! Looks like I'll have to work more overtime to buy it (lol). :-D - Chad
Dear Chad!!! Thank you for your reply! I hope to test the mp500 soon after the StudioDeck review.... i have to work hard....i still have another project after the StudioDeck : Black2 review from Grado... :-D . We both look forward!!! Lots of things to look forward, you and i!!
Some of you bought a few months ago and have been using it, listening through it much earlier than me! You guys are just amazing :-D !!! Brother, updates from you anytime, I am all EARS :-D...
Warmest Regards,
~ ian.
Having lived with the MP-200 for a while, the performance for its price is outstanding. My ears appreciate the sonic clarity. A wonderful piece of kit. Cheers Ian!😁🎵✌
Brother, thank you for your kindest friendship...especially important to me here during this period of duress of the nCOV situation in Asia, and in my home country of Singapore as we are stepping up a lot of measures nationwide. I am a medical doctor as you'd also already realized... thank you, Brother. I hope I can live on.
@@HiViNywschannel Be strong Ian. Trials and tribulations are part and parcel of our lives on this globe called Earth. Your knowledge and expertise will help. Stay safe my friend.
@@robertkeefer1552 Thank you Brother💚.
My wife and I say thank you to you.
I am very happy that you are keeping up the vinyl hobby and i am sure influencing others around you to enjoy this lovely playback and warm community.
My best regards to you and your family in the U.K. ... i was made aware from my British friend in Norwich that it is about 18-20deg in the UK nowadays after the recent heatwave a month ago. And with sunshine now! Enjoy the good weather Buddy!!
another steller review my friend. i will always have a nagaoka cart in one of my TT's, they just do everything so well with all genres of music.
...ah yes Buddy :-D so neutral and revealing and musical!!!! Just right and beautiful!
For what it's worth, I've been running an MP200 for a while now and after using a few phono stages, I can recommend the Sutherland KC Vibe as a fantastic match for the MP200. The synergy is bonkers.
ANOTHER SUPER AWESOME VIDEO IAN!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! ONCE AGAIN AWESOME VIDEO!
That also means that it's time to save up for the next upgrade :)
For the bass comparison , I couldn't really make out the subtle differences (except for the better timing and rhythmic part), which could be due to UA-cam compression and the short demo clips.
Have a lovely evening with your family,
Best Regards my friend, my brother.
May you have a lovely Saturday evening with your loved ones :-D
Warmest Regards,
~ ian.
The 200 is my next purchase. Nice review, my friend!
Brother Bill💪😄✌😄💪😄✌💪😄✌✌✌✌!!!
Heh. Heh. HEH!!!!!!!
You've got it🎶🎵🎶🎶😄Brother!!!
You're going to ENJOY. EVERY SINGLE PLAY!!!!!!!! HEE. HEE. HEEEEEE!!!
Hi Ian, another excellent review. You put a lot of work into these reviews and it shows thank you once again, my friend.
David
Dear Buddy David, thank you again for catching up!!! Hehheh.... your lovely furkid doggie... how is he/she?
Lily is doing well. She sends her love to Moko! But now she complains that I don't take her for car rides like you take Moko.... I guess I'll have to start taking her shopping for vinyl.
Do you have a target date for MP-300/MP-500 review ? !
i've been using an mp200 for about 2 years now, and after racking up almost 200hrs on it, have purchased the jnp-500 stylus (it fits, minus the locking screws) and it sounds wonderful - the mp200 is a bit 'smoother' but the mp500 contact line grabs more treble detail and i can say that i have no more IGD on any records - and the *snappy* character of the mp200 is retained. the original elliptical wasn't terrible in that regard, but i could hear it occasionally.
I love this guy! Nice chanel man!
Thank you Buddy!!!!!👋😄👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💚
Thanks Ian! Glad to see each step up in the Nagaoka line is consistent and significant. Excited to see what else you have planned.
Have a good morning Buddy as i start watching Sweden-Mexico-Germany-Korea at 10pm now here :-D
Thank you Brother for so kindly writing in to me.
I had seen your message much earlier but I was on the road and running some errands :-D
Brother, just to let you know again, if ever Trigonõs launch an LP, count me in. I hope to hear your vocal performance and your band of brothers' performance!!! Studio or live, I am all ears!!! MP-200, Mani... you'd be in audio heaven.
Brother, may i ask again, what is your turntable-tonearm? I had forgotten about it.
Best Regards Buddy,
I really congratulate you for having both the MP-200 and the Mani. They are just stupendous.
Hi everyone,
I bought the MP-200 based on your review and I am so happy I did! It is even better than I expected with great separation and proper timbre. I plan to match it with the new Technics 1200GR and possibly KAB damper. Great detail without sounding hard already after 10 hrs use. Anyone that already have the 1200GR or KAB damper care to comment on a match up?
Thanks
L
Hehhhehheh!!!! WELL DONE my friend💪😄✌ an absolute win for you! This is going to be a long, long, long journey of vinyl analogue bliss for you and your family! I am sure your GR will be a keeper too and to do duties for many, many years🌿🌿🌿. Kudos and yup!...have fun with the KAB damper and more tweaks along the way for your fun Technics!!!
Warmest Regards, may uou and your family be well and happy, safe and healthy 🍀😄🎶🎵🎶🎶
Even though I don't always agree...I can agree here 100% and the love you have for what you're doing is contagious! Keep up the awesome work!
HiViNyws channel I couldn't agree more with everything that you've said my friend.
was waiting for this review for awhile ,thanks for the hard work as i am in the market for a new cartridge and i was looking to choose the 150 or the 200 you have certainly helped me make the right choice thanks again
Hello Ian
I've been following your channel for a long time now (3 or 4 years I think) and my friend this is just to say thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Hi, thank's for this video!I think I have to replace my DL 110....the MP200 sound's real great. 👍✌
Another flawless review Ian! You are the BEST! I just got the MP110 and I'm already enjoying it. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
You rock!
Brother, have a great evening :-D .... we rock on together. Vinyl Bliss.
Highly detailed review as always Ian! Seems the Nagaoka MP-110, 150 and 200 are the line of cartridges to go for.
Dear Buddy Robert :-D i am happy to see you again!!! How are you doing? Love your comments on previous videos.... very, very apt. And yes continue to enjoy your Sansui SR-222Mk2 :-D! !!!!! Grado Black!!!
You are just excellent. Great performers, and now I know what I want next. Thank so much for the great effort.
Dear Buddy!!! I see you have a Rega Planar 3!!!!! :-D
Thank you for your time and friendship Buddy!!! May you have a beautiful vinyl journey always!!! See you Buddy!!! ANytime, any updates from your system too!
Thank you for your response. May I ask witch microphone you use on your videos?
You get more stereo separation, dynamics, and focus as you move up the line. My MP-150 serves Megadeth and Mozart equally well.
I can see my next upgrade, thank you 🙂👍
Hi Ian,
And it's undeniable - this cart sounds better. Well done my friend. I wish you all the best for you and your family.
Dear Buddy, hope you are enjoying the MP-150 to bits!!! Our common superb cartridge. Very, very well respected in my family too!! They know about the greenish MP0150! :-D
Thank you for your precious time catching up with me and see you soon Buddy!!! Anytime :-D
Magnificent review, as always! I wonder how the Nag MP-200 compares to the Denon DL-103R. Have your tried that?
MP-200 is better
I bought the MP-200 based upon your review. Thank you.
Ian, I noticed that you mentioned that you have the MP-500. Any thoughts on how it compares with the 200?
Warmest Regards,
~ ian.
Thanks Ian. The 500 is more expensive, but not unreachable like some MCs I see in Stereophile. I’ll give it a try then.
Buddy the croft is beyond good and has settled in as a permanent fixture. I emailed glenn croft that all is well too and i will not be selling it. It is a permanent fixture now. Superb performer :-D
Thank you for your time again Brother :-D
Mokobaby says just kissed me as I am writing to you from my seat on the floor, i told her that daddy is saying hi to Uncle ZoeyDaddy!!
This is amazing how detailed MP-200 is in the middle range. Very nice articulation and clarity. Thank you Ian ;-)
Dear Mario :-D . Thank you for coming by and saying hi to me! How have you been? I remember that you are into Art Blakey and jazz vinyl? :-D
The MP-200 is indeed a very, very detailed cart.
Dear Buddy, :-D
even the $260 MP-150 (easily gotten from Japanese reputable ebay sellers) beats the $400 2M Bronze. I think you know :-D what the result would be for the 2M Black (which I have, but have not put out the full review yet).
Go for the MP-200 my friend. You will be extremely surprised and happy++++++ with its breathtaking performance!!!! :-D
Warmest Regards buddy and have a great weekend :-D of vinyl fun!
~ ian
This is getting serious, Ian!
Another landmark review which once again raises the analogue bar even higher.
Much appreciated.
AnalogueInQatar Dear Buddy💪😄🤗👋😊!!!! Yay!!! I see you again!!! Thank you for your time!!!! Hahaha....we love our common tools. We sing on Brother🎶🤸♂️🎶🎶!!!Warmest Regards!
Hello, I use the mp500, I had a mp110 & just upgrade the stylus to the mp500 stylus, it sounds fabulous, another great video from you👍
From my understanding mp110 body will fit 150 & 200.
Mp 300 fits 300 and 500. Correct?
True 356
The MP-110, MP-150, and MP-200 share the same cartridge body type, but not exactly the same internals. The MP-300 onwards are completely different from previously mentioned cartridges, and are not compatible.
I tried an MP-200 stylus in an MP-110 body just to see. Results were surprisingly good, but after careful prolonged listening the complete MP-200 cartridge was superior.
tweaker man
Sorry tweaker man.
Yours always,
~ ian
Hi Ian, How is the review on the MoFi Studiodeck coming? Can we expect to see it in a week or two?
Keep up the good work my friend!!!
Buddy :-D . thank you so much yet again for catching up!!! Hahaha... yes the StudioDeck.... will kick in the bulk of the work starting today (8:30am now in Singapore)... enjoy your Mani and MP110!!!! ;-D See you soon, anytime, and all the best my friend!!
How does mp200 against vm750sh? İ have the vm750sh. This topic is intresting
@@Andrew-eh1bj thank you for the Quick answer. Yes the price is Problem. Thats why i Just order the mp200 Just give a try. 👏🏼
Dearest Buddy Leon, i am really happy to see you again!! :-D Hope you are doing excellently!!!!!
HiViNyws channel And the same to you Ian ;^)
Leon thepro Thank you Buddy👋😄🎵🎶
Fantastic reviews Ian. Appreciate all the work you put into this. I’m sold now on getting back into the vinyl addiction. Rega P2 with an MP200!
WOOAAHHH :-D Rega with MP-200!!!!! LET'S GO :-D !!!!!!!!!
I just paid $500 for this thing. Ill see how it goes.
Yours,
~ ian.
Thank yoU!
Another brilliant review and how wonderful to see Natalie Merchant in the background, perhaps one of THE great female vocalist.
Oh brohter!!! Thank you!! We enjoy our common MP110 always!! I love it so much i bought another replacement stylus so that when the time comes, there will be no downtime :-D . See you my friend! Yes, your good wife with that Christmas Nagaoka gift to you!!!
Hello Ian,
first I would like to thanks you for all the videos you made so far, they are very informative!
I have a question concerning the MP 200, in my place i can get it for 479€ ( i don't know if its in my country only or if the prices went up since your video) which in term of price put the mp 200
only 90€ cheaper than the Ortofon 2m black. Have you been able to listen to the 2m black so far? or have any idea how it compare to the mp 200 ?
keep up the good work,
kind regards from France,
Martial
PS: if any member of the community has owned both of those cart I'm curious to hear from you
Hi Martial!!! Thann you for dropping by!!!!!
The MP-200 is easily better than the 2M Black. I have the 2M Black🤗
You can either get the MP-200 or the Goldring 1042 as the triumphant💪💪💪💪💪💪 cartridges to have in your system!!!
I wish the best for you and your family too ! stay safe
best regards,
Martial
PS: As a metal / hard rock fan i wonder if you have an opinion on those carst for that kind of music :)
@@HiViNywschannel Hi Ian hope your doing good, just to let you know i just purchased and installed the schiit mani in my set-up, its already an improvement compare to the
pre-amp in my SL 1500C ! its currently playing with my 2M blue next upgrade will probably be the goldring 1042.
thank you again for you work,
have a nice day, cordially Martial.
Just installed this cart last night. First impressions are superb! Everything you analyze here rings true and then some. I loved my MP110 but this is next level in resounding ways. Thank you as always for your analysis.
Hi Ian I’m in for a new cartridge what do you recommend ,a Sumiko evo 3 or mp200 thru a Michell syncro to naim pre, power amps, audio physics Sitara speakers
Thanks
Decided to buy a soundsmith Othello cartridge in the end, happy with it.will get the sumiko evo 3 recantilevered at a later stage.
