Yeah man, there is something special about managing to shoot a good fish on the wild west! It's a good time to be on the hunt for kings up here at the moment, if you want some company flick us a message when you head up! Cheers!!!
Thanks Kerry. Despite living in other countries for more than half my life, your content, without fail reminds me who I am and where I'm from. I feel blessed to have spent the first 25 years of my life living in such an awesome country. Keep the vids coming mate!
Nice dive for sure! Those yellowtail (as we call them) were a surprise! Never had a muzzle wrap with mono! Had it happen a few times with Dyneema, though!
Oh thanks for that tip! I am running dyneema, perhaps I should switch up to mono for the double wrap but and then connect to the dyneema once it hits the reel - the muzzle wrap only happens at random but it means that I wont shoot a kingfish (yellow tail) unless I'm connected to a float line because I cannot trust the gun not to wrap! Cheers!!!
Great to see. Always look forward to you videos as soon as they come out. Have just moved back to Doubtless bay and am keen as to get out in amongst it. Woohoo.
Went round there on the boat a few weeks ago and there would have been 60 to 70 cray pots in front of the batches so that probably explains why there was Bugga all crays
Yeah they do get targeted with the pots but I find they also move around on the reef and I'm sure they were just hanging out on a different part of the reef on this day! Cheers!!!
Great vid kerry those looked like some very solid kings! do you think its time for a rahui or some other measures to give the crays and paua a chance to build up in numbers in the north before things start to look like they are in the hauraki gulf? interested to hear your opinion on this, Cheers
There is a Rahui in place for some of the area around the reef, this was a spot I had never dived before and the crayfish do move around a bit so they might have been elsewhere on the reef...generally the crayfish population on the west coast is in excellent shape. Cheers!!!
Hey bro, just interested, what do you mean open? Beach is queens chain right, not owned by the locals and has unrestricted access regardless? Just curious on the rules that's all.
Not quite, the "Queens chain" laws don't exist any more - as far as I understand they were replaced by the foreshore and seabed act that grants access for all areas below the mean high water mark so technically where we are driving is in that area however to get down into Te Kohanga (Shipwreck bay) you have to cross Te Rarawa land and they have the right to close that off and do at times when there are people disrespecting the whenua (lands) around there, hope that explains things a little better....Cheers!!!
@@KerryFlowers Yeah cool thanks for clarifying, makes sense. If people are behaving disrespectfully then I agree. As long as it's not closed for cynical reasons.
Many different ways, kingfish is best raw in my opinion but I do like the steaks fried and the wings smoked. I love snapper fillets deep fried in batter and the heads smoked! Cheers!!!
Ah a "stone shot" is where you hit the fish in the brain and it is killed instantly, it's the shot that I'm going for every time I pull the trigger! Cheers!!!
Hey mate as always I’m loving your contents, beautiful day it was for you and ol mate 💪.. Would you do a collaboration with Ollie? He’s also a massive diver all rounder, that would be a nice vid to watch

Te Rarawa are a very onto it tribe and have some fantastic leadership so I can't see it being closed for no good reason.
Insanity!🤙🏼
How do you like to cook your fish?
Many different ways, kingfish is best raw in my opinion but I do like the steaks fried and the wings smoked. I love snapper fillets deep fried in batter and the heads smoked! Cheers!!!
Your vid title hahaha! Beggars can’t be choosers aye mate 👀🤣🤙🏽
Bit of a laugh aye, pretty much exactly what happened tho lol! Cheers!!!

Anyone else see that John Dory when he shot at that first snapper?
Yeah there was a dory there as well, unfortunately the shot on the snapper spooked everything and it was gone on the next dive...Cheers!!!
