  • I tasked myself to remaster a modular game-ready wayshrine asset kit from the Video game Skyrim Dawnguard DLC. Appearing throughout the Forgotten Vale map.
I captured In game reference images using tfc console command, so I could fly around the environment and inspect closely and gain as much knowledge as possible of the stuctures form and texture qualities.
This modular kit was textured using a trimsheet housing a variation of material types; concrete stone bricks, cracked and smooth tiles and gold coloured alloys. The asset kit parts can be constructed to build the wayshrine, archway and damaged sections; along with any custom combinations.
I have also created a series of damaged archways, where I made another trim sheet for decals to add further surface damage and cracks to the broken archway pillars, or any asset in the kit that needs extra weathering.
In addition to this, the interior walls are designed to be turned into portals, to enable the player to traverse to the other wayshrines located throughout the Forgotten Vale. Each portal doorway opens up a different point of access.
The Shrine has the ability to lower it's self into the ground via a channel which follows the perimeter of the hexagon area including the curved fin divides. Originally in the game the shrine center housing is lowered into the ground hidden from the player until activated in which then rises out of the ground until the floor is aligned with the base stairs, enabling the player to enter.
I am a big fan of the Elder Scrolls franchise, especially Skyrim and find this great inspiration for re-creating current assets or coming up with brand new concepts for environments.
