Yes there’s a lot of different thoughts and believes in this topic. We all can agree on the fact that we need vitamin C. The disagreements is about the amount, where from and how to. I read an article by Dr. d D’adamo who is not only a medical Dr. but also a veterinary. He tells that humans are told how much we need of different vitamins and minerals on a daily basis is based on what we need to not get ill (just suvive) and not what we need to stay healthy. He also says that on a Zoo the recommendation for primates are several times higher then they want the animals to stay healthy and not just survive. That should be the right way to treat humans as well but it isn’t. Why?
I’ve seen proper studies that showed 5 grams vit c per day reduced the duration of common colds. 8 grams significantly reduced the duration & was tolerated well. Via oral. I’ve used 8 grams & stopped colds over night, has worked well for friends & family too. Fruit, veg & 1 gram supplemental as a daily gig, 8 grams when you’re on the ropes. Works for me. Cheers 🥂
A key thing when “high dosing,” is to take C in smaller doses throughout the day… I have taken 30,000mg in one day (when sick) with no bowel intolerance, by taking smaller amounts every hour or two. Keep it by my water bottle, and take some every time I get thirsty.

Hi Sam please consider this. I was given vitamin c tablets as a child and now have an allergic reaction to the artificial vitamin c often used as an acidity regulator particularly in Watties Tomatoes products. My tongue gets such a reaction to the artificial vitamin c that it tastes identical to battery acid (h2So4). Natural lemon juice etc is not a problem but artificial lemon juice ruins the flavor of the salad or food it is poured on for me. I postulate that people can tolerate the wrong chirac form of vitamin c until their body decides it has had too much and responds with an allergic reaction. People may be getting sick from artificial vitamin C and not know what is the cause. It would be wise to not take supplements that could result in this allergy as the vitamin c acidity regulator is used very widely and the food chemists are not going to use expensive vitamin c when the penny counters are rewarded for saving costs.

7:07 the saturation factor is (imo) the most important consideration for me with this because even though some advocates point to the other benefits of high dosages, the most important consideration is surely whether or not the body will actually tolerate it being kept in the body beyond 200mg per day. Advocates using 3g upwards, using Ascorbic Acid to achieve those high doses, seemingly aren't looking at whether or not the body actually accepts 3000mg or only 200mg. If anything, it would seem like a waste of money and is probably the origin of the standard medical skepticism that people are pouring money down the drain. I am unsure if advocates for high doses have their own research to prove the usual papers on saturation levels are old news, but although I used dried Acerola Cherry Vit C powder, I am currently wary of going above 200mg of total Vit C conrent over the course of a day until this is settled, considering that other forms like Acerola certainly aren't cheap unlike the Ascorbic Acid tablets found cheaply in every supplement shop.

But lots of his topics is interesting and also backed up by many others. Juice I am told is broken into separated elements that are not all harmless. Low carb is possibly better for health...no sugary substances.
The same applies to all fruit juices- I am Type 2 Diabetic, so have to be careful with fruit consumption and definitely no juices. Also, fructose is not well tolerated by many people- can cause fatty liver. Furthermore, both glucose and Vit C molecules use the Glute 4 transporter to get through the cell walls and into the cells. Hence, they compete for space on the transporter. Probably one reason that people with uncontrolled blood glucose need more Vit C or are susceptible to more illness.

Hi Dr Sam, thank you for such a great video. Much appreciated. You said you wouldn’t take supplemented vitamin C for more than a week. Is that simply because obtaining it naturally in foods is better for you, or is taking it as a supplement for longer timeframes detrimental to the physical body?
In regular doses it will not be toxic. Ascorbic acid is 'water soluble' which means it dissolves in water in your body, and the excess will be urinated out.
Don't count on the veggies and fruit anymore because they have been adulterated through the poison thats on them, that includes organic as well, they are making it to where as every damn fruit and vegetable on this earth is not worth eating anymore, I personally take the buffered l-absorbate called C-Salt,which is gentle on stomach and works wonders🤗
While I do take supplements including Vit C, I have long had the belief and debated the point that nature has the answers (or at least should have) and therefore natural is better.
There are many schools of thought around Vitamin C. Glad you put this together and highlighted some of them. When working with learning difficulty and autistic children many years ago we always tried to get the children to drink natural orange juice about 30 mins before meals. Was informed that this gets Vit C into their bodies and helps their bodies to absorb other vitamins such as iron. It would be interesting to hear what Dr Sam has to say on this.
There is a term, " chiral", that I ran across, years ago. It means twist, I believe. The two forms of C twist in opposite directions. I would think the natural, non-engineered ,form of C from fruits and veggies, has the correct twist.
Per 12:54 - 242 days (just short of eight months) having removed entirely: Sugar, Processed Foods, and Seed Oils; Time-Controlled Eating (eating never more than a six-hour window); eating ZERO "fruits" (I do eat trace amounts of chiles, tomatoes, onions, garlic, &c, and I do eat avocados in Mexico); I eat close to zero "other carbs". I am virtually Carnivore. I have had neither illness, allergies, inflamation, & al. for this entire time. So, either I am receving all of the C-complex I need, or I don't need all that much to begin with based upon, what has been coined, my "Proper Human Diet". It is amazing that this should work, and at the year mark I will again get my blood work and other physical exams from my hollistic doctor to see the progress. P.S. I am certain having looked up the typical Mexican flora that I am taking in sufficient amounts of the C-complex in case anyone might like to search for leafy greens, avocados, and chiles. Be well!
Hi. Apparently vit c and glucose ( sugar/carbs) compete to enter the cell....as they are very similar molecularly. So the body needs far less c if eating carnivore. Kind of ironic that we try to get c from vegetables? :-)

As a chemist I am curious to know what the "complex" of natural Vit C is. Would it be an ester form with a fatty acid? Is it a metal complex of ascorbic acid? Also, does this only affect absorption or how it works at the cellular level. Appreciate anyone commenting on this.
That's the acerola cherries type which comes as a powder, typically from Brazil but elsewhere also. There are others too, like amla powder. Both contain the ancillary nutrients that would have been called vitamin p decades back. I think you're asking about the liposomal form too. Its ascorbic acid encapsulated by lecithin - sunflower usually, but not always. The intention with this form is to ensure as much as possible gets through to the gut. Of ascorbic acid it's believed that less than 20% survives the stomach processes. The liposomal form fares much better with possibly more than 80% getting through. I don't know about the rest that you ask.
@@lsmith992 Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this very helpful information. I am familiar with Amla and make its oil (at home) for hair health. Larry King was on ad about 'Ester C' which I guess is an esterified form of Vit C for better absorption. I was not familiar with the liposomal form, it must be expensive. Very nice of you to reply and my best wishes for everything.
I recently learned about the chiral counterpart of vitamin C. To be honest, I knew vitamin C was chiral, but for some reason it never did sink in that if vitamin C is made chemically it is a racemic mixture of L- and D-ascorbic acid. I have googled on this chirality issue with respect to ascorbic acid and I was surprised I couldn't really find anything about it. So, to take sufficient chemically produced vitamin C you already have to take twice the amount compared with natural vitamin C to account for the chirality. And I wonder if the D-acid is that safe to consume. I would learn about that.

Hi You have the stories a bit mixed up I think. The first settlers in America were healed of scurvy by the native Americans who gave them the bark of pine trees, possibly the needles but I'm not sure of that. Pine needles do have a lot of vitamin c though. Lime fruit trees are hot climate trees so wouldn't have been found in those more northerly areas. But were used by the English sea captains to prevent scurvy in the crew, along with sauerkraut. Nothing to do with native American tribes though.

I struggle with my vitamin C intake always. I'm sure I have enough, most of the time, to prevent scurvy, that said, my tooth gum can be inflammated, but my teeth are very bad (MIH). I don't like the taste of oranges or most fruit in general. So I try to eat strawberries, that seems to go best. Sometimes I eat a kiwi. At times I drink orange juice but not fresh. Anyway, maybe somebody knows a sweet fruit with lot of vitamin C? Like strawberries?

Very informative Sam!!
Advice re vit D and K2 would be helpful, thank you, also zinc as all these recommended for keeping viruses at bay.
I am taking 1000mg x3 if serious cold cough weakness.
Thank Dr Bailey, wonderful presentation. What are your thoughts on Haemacromatosis and Vit C please?
It doesn't look like Canadian labels indicate the form of ascorbic acid.
Hi Sam,
Have you covered copper?
If not, please can you!
Cheers ! 👍
While I do take supplements including Vit C, I have long had the belief and debated the point that nature has the answers (or at least should have) and therefore natural is better.
@@stephen3654 Agree, and take large doses of all of them.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Much respect...
@@grantrogan Thanks for that. I didn't know the process. Appreciate the response. Be well.
@@thomashughes4859 Both glucose and Vit C molecules use the Glute 4 transporter to get through the cell walls and into the cells. Hence, they compete for space on the transporter. Probably one reason that people with uncontrolled blood glucose need more Vit C or are susceptible to more illness.
Thank you so much for your info. What you think of taking C-60 would interest me very much.
Camu Camu is a great source! Liposomal vit c can be another great way to absorb it
Brilliant doctor Sam!!!!!.
Thank you for this, you're always insightful. Can you please do a video on the importance of vitamin D, or provide a link to your current video on this subject, thank you.
I know I get more energy when I take a vitamin C supplement
It seems to help with wound healing and exericize endurance. .....my experimenting with it over the years,.....on and off......both vit, form and in fruits.
Vilhjalmur Stefansson wrote in his book fat of the land how the Eskimos treated sailors affected by scurvy with fresh meat and demonstrated it with his experiment by isolating himself for a year in a NY apartment eating only meat without suffering any deficiencies. There are many people today who eat only meat for years without any problem
Excellent video, thank you!
Thanks for this information. Might it be worth looking into the FLCCC Pierre Kory and his evidence of benefits of high Vit C treatment for sepsis.
A discussion about the Vitamin C Complexes (national) would be of interest.
Several years ago I read about a multi-year long study about vitamin C and multivitamins. They had to cut the study short because the mortality rate among smokers using the supplements was significantly higher. I haven't been able to find the article since, but I remember showing it to a colleague at the time, so there's a witness. Anyone else heard about this?
Oh man, I wonder why!
Thank you. I would love to see a video about the benefits of Curcumin and turmeric
Thank you very much..from Canada
XO
Nice one Sam.
I am so grateful to you!
Thanks for a your excellent presentation it's helpful to understand how much of it is actually needed. Wasn't too happy to see dicalcium phosphate in my 1000 mg preparation.
Isn't that something to do with toothpaste ? Helps to polish or remove plaque.
Why would they put it in your Vit C?
@@zerotoleranceforsataniceli4794 They use it as a bulking agent in tablets but it's a toxin
I can't believe you forgot KIWI!!! It's very high in C.
You are my vitamin watch every day thanks
I recently learned about the chiral counterpart of vitamin C. To be honest, I knew vitamin C was chiral, but for some reason it never did sink in that if vitamin C is made chemically it is a racemic mixture of L- and D-ascorbic acid. I have googled on this chirality issue with respect to ascorbic acid and I was surprised I couldn't really find anything about it. So, to take sufficient chemically produced vitamin C you already have to take twice the amount compared with natural vitamin C to account for the chirality. And I wonder if the D-acid is that safe to consume. I would learn about that.
Dr Thomas Levy /Dr Susan Humphrey/Dr Russell Jaffe /Dr hunnacre/Dr Cathcart/,all great resources for the full healing abilities clinical history of VIT C .Interesting lecture by Dr Russel Jaffe on the dosage requirements of humans in these toxic times and how repair deficit varies greatly from person to person .🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️
Praying for this virus mania to end asap...
Thanks Doctor Great video.
Your thoughts on antinutrients like oxalates and lectins please. Broccoli and spinach and peppers are high in those.
Thanks Dr
An excellent talk.
recently started a high dose vitamin c for short term. Bowel tolerance level. Also on Whole Food Plant Based diet as I am vegan.
I once healed an awful bronchitis through only freshly extracted carrot and then pineapple juice, separately, alternating over 2 days.
Does vitamin D lay dormant until smothered in calcium?
I like to use in the kitchen lot of fermented fruit and veggie ( sauerkraut )
Hi Sam I always I love your posts. On another subject could you refer me to information about the Covid jab not being legally or technically a vaccine. This being the case it would mean that legally or technically those who have received the gene therapy mechanical device are in fact unvaxed!
For flu I take 1 gram per hour until I feel a little better, then I reduce to 1/4 the dose. 1 gram a day when I am healthy, all year.
My pharmicist looked at her inventory of vitamin c and they were both showing laxative ingredients! She was shocked.. as I was. 🙄
I believe an English sea captain told a native American Chieftain that half his crew had died of Scurvy and he gave the captain bark off a lime tree and the rest of his crew recovered and lime was then regularly given to all English sailors that`s why the Americans called the English limey`s I believe
Hi
You have the stories a bit mixed up I think.

Great presentation Dr Sam! Thank you!
Our soil is so depleted from minerals that you can't count on getting much vitamins or minerals from vegetables grow in them I feel me must supplemnent
Haven't had orange juice in years its a pure sugar rush.
My son can't absorb it well ,
( V damaged,,,)
I'm having trouble too now I'm older.
Hey doc can you do a video on vitamin B1 (benfotiamine or TTFD) in regards to Beriberi (over consumption of alcohol and/or carbs)
Brilliant 👏
Iv heard that sauerkraut is good for vitamin c
Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛 💖
I struggle with my vitamin C intake always.
Hello Dr Sam, I'm 60 with GBM diagnosis 3 years ago. Besides taking other supplements, I've been taking 9600 mg of liposomal C for almost 3 years. I have no gastro problems. I started taking NAC 2d 2 months ago.
Saying a prayer for you 🙏🏼 I lost my father to GBM in 2017. Wishing you well ❤️❤️
@@kdenton3853 thank you for the prayer. Condolences on your father
