    *SPOILERS* A lot of people are asking me about "The Muppets" and "Muppets Most Wanted", as they weren't included on both lists despite their popularity. I'm afraid that I can't respond to every single person who queries about this, doing so would get rather repetitive, so don't be offended if I've not replied. I felt both films were okay at best, just fine, they didn't end up on either list because other movies were better or worse to me, simple as. I don't do honorable mentions, never have done, because I personally think they make countdowns less special (personal preference, all power to you if you like them), I'd rather focus on highlighting my final choices. There's a review of "Muppets Most Wanted" already on my channel, so feel free to check that out (keep in mind though, it's a video from a few years ago, some opinions might have changed since), but it'll be a long while until I review "The Muppets" (2011).

      Personally I thought "The Muppets (2011)" was a bad and disappointing film. The Muppets are more of a plot device than main characters and they were too depressing and wangsty throughout the whole film lacking the classic Muppet charm. "Muppets Most Wanted" however was quite an improvement and had the Muppets behaved more like Muppets again.

    I understand your reasoning to end the series. People on social media usually love hearing about the worst of the worst, most likely because we live in a cynical world and using the Muppets was a great way to contrast it with it's messages of optimism, acceptance and love, which is what we all need as we start 2020. Oh wow, Muppets Take Manhattan was always in my Top 3 favorite Muppet Movies. I saw this in the theater when it came out, so I wonder if age can be a considering factor of what is a favorite or not. I literally grew up with this movie and loved how it introduced the Muppet Babies.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  4 роки тому +5

      I grew up with Take Manhattan, but I thought it was boring when I was as a kid too, so I doubt it's anything to do with age. I simply think it's a badly written film, but all power to you for enjoying it.
      While the Muppet Babies make their debut in Take Manhattan, it's a very pointless and shoehorned scene that adds nothing to the main narrative. If anything, it's the most gimmicky scene in the film.

    I completely understand why you want to stop doing "worst" lists, and I agree, it appears to be so much more easier to talk about bad things then good nowadays because they seem to get more attention from people, which isn't good. Plus, delving into so much negativity and knowing that that is what makes you well-known I'm sure isn't a good way to feel, as you stated at the end of the video (and I definitely promote self-care). But still, the fact that you ended this series with talking about The Muppets and their goal is to spread love and positivity was definitely a good way to go, so you end on a high note.
    I also really appreciated how you went into "Church of Tim Curry" mode when you were talking about him in Treasure Island XD. Personally that's one of my favorite series' from you and it was fun to see you get so passionate about Curry's performance as Long John Silver (which was undoubtedly awesome). Treasure Island & Christmas Carol are easily my favorite Muppet movies :).

    I honestly think Muppets Wizard of Oz is worse than Swamp Years from the puppetry standpoint. Wizard of Oz is pretty sloppy in terms of keeping the magic. Rods pop up into the frame all the time and they just don't do as much that impresses. As a puppeteer, I always respected the Muppeteers, even in their worst products like the ABC show they made, due to their commitment with making the puppetry and the magic of the screen combine for a penultimate experience. But I'm not particularly respecting of their outcome for Wizard of Oz.

    Here are my thoughts on different Muppet movies:
    The Muppet Movie: a great Muppet movie that in my opinion loses steam when Miss Piggy comes along.
    The Great Muppet Caper: Even better than The Muppet Movie that has some of the best humor of any Muppet movie and the romance between Kermit and Miss Piggy which is usually my least favorite part of these movies actually keeps the story going instead of weighing it down.
    The Muppets Take Manhattan: The movie that introduced me to these lovable characters that I haven’t seen in a long time but is definitely not my favorite.
    The Muppet Christmas Carol: My favorite of these movies. A movie that combines great humor, drama, and heart, the music is great, and Michael Caine is fantastic as Scrooge. It’s a movie that’s best enjoyed under the covers.
    Muppet Treasure Island: A fun adventure with great humor, music, action, and a fantastic performance from Tim Curry. Feels the most like a Disney film out of all these movies.
    Muppets From Space: The worst of the theatrically released movies. The Muppets are still enjoyable but the writing isn’t very good for a Muppet movie and just feels like a generic late 90s flick. It also feels the most like a kids flick out of all these movies and Gonzo is very out of character here. Wouldn’t it have been funny if he was excited to have his brain removed? The original ideas for the movie sounded a lot better than what we got instead.
    The Muppets: Loved it when it first came out and I still love it but I got a little burned out on it. It starts out kind of meh but it gets a lot better once it starts focusing on the Muppets. I think the characters Gary and Mary could have had less screen time but at least they were a charming couple. I don’t watch it very often at all, but it definitely has a special place in my heart. I loved seeing it in theaters with my family 8 years ago.
    Muppets Most Wanted: I loved it when I first saw it, but I don’t appreciate it as much now. I like it a lot, but it has a lot of problems. I love the premise, the humor is fantastic, and Ty Burrell has fantastic chemistry with Sam the Eagle, and the songs are great. My problems with the movie are that Walter has more screen time than Gonzo does, Ricky Gervais is kind of bland as one of the villains, Tina Fey overstays her welcome, and the climax bothers me. I hate how they portrayed Miss Piggy as a damsel in distress who suddenly defeats Constantine easily, because it raises the question of how did he capture her in the first place. I like the movie despite it’s problems.
    I wish they would keep coming out with these movies.

    This was a great choice for a final Best and Worst list, both in honor of the passing of Carol Spinney, and also as we round the corner to start a new decade. (Ironically, the Muppet movies I can remember seeing most as a kid were a few of the ones on the worst list, and I still enjoyed them-except for Oz and Kermit’s Swamp, thank god.)

    I'm gonna have to disagree highly with this. Despite his ambition for a brain, the Scarecrow wasn't dumb. He in actuality very smart, but just couldn't see it because he was made without a literal brain. The tinman was very soft hearted, despite being made without a heart. The lion, despite being scared out of his mind, still came through for his friends. I'd argue that the casting of these characters is one of the very few things that this movie does well because the whole point of the film is the realisation that they collectively already had what they were looking for. The Wizard of OZ isn't a story about a bunch of characters finding a heart, and, a brain, some courage, and a home, it's about those bunch if characters realising that that they already had those things. It's about the realisation that your hearts desire is probably closer than you think, that you don't need to go searching for something you already have, that there's no place like home.

    Quick side note I was curious as to what your thoughts were on the two Disney muppet films: The Muppets and Muppets most wanted since they didn’t appear on either list.

    Muppets from Space was an unnecessary film. We did not need for Gonzo to have a defined species. It was a running gag on the old show to say 'We're alll dogs, frogs, pigs *pauses, looking at gonzo* or.... whatever..."
    Muppets in Oz would be my #`1 worst without question. Guest stars have been a key part of the series, and a celebrity main character in the movies is common, this is the only muppet film that feels more like a vehicle for the star, with the muppets as supporting cast.

    What you said at the end is understandable and relatable. Usually, it's the more cynical direction to making videos that gets more views and as a result, UA-cam nowadays feels like as if I'm watching a bunch of devil wannabes (I hope that makes sense). I'll even admit I myself have been quite the cynical person for the last year and I'm not too happy with myself at this point. I do have to thank this cynicism for one thing though, that it opened up with me asking a question which is do we humans really exist just to entertain the gods or devils? It's a question that has turned into an inspiration for me if I want to implement supernatural events in my own franchise one day (watching Hazbin Hotel certainly pushed this inspiration even further).
    Your videos have been some of my favourite content to watch for the past few years. While there have been some opinions you made that I don't agree with or even found flawed (first 5 years of content for the latter), I admire your passion in films and respect what you have to say. I'm looking forward to what you have to offer for the next decade and I hope you still enjoy what you make. Simply put, you're a strawberry with tegridy.

He was a very interesting guy. Also, if you like fantasy there's a weird book called Quest for Celestial. And a series that begins with How To Train Your Dragon that isnt about spirituality but rather hope and kindness. Anyway, God's blessings, and please watch Muppets Christmas carol if you haven't already

    What I think makes Muppets Christmas Carol work so well and become one of the more faithful adaptations of the famous tale is that Michael Caine was the star and main focus and none of that focus was taken away by Muppet antics. I like to think of it as the Muppets putting on a traditional Christmas Carol pageant and playing characters from the book. I think that was went wrong with Muppet Wizard of Oz as that movie seemed to take the focus away from Dorothy and placed it on the Muppets themselves which is a major problem as the story is all about Dorothy and her exploration of a strange and unfamiliar world and the dangers that lurk inside of it. Muppet Treasure Island worked out so well because the novel is about Jim Hawkins and his relationship with everyone on the Hispaniola and their search for buried treasure.

      @@Jambareeqi Exactly... My point is... How can The Muppets be so critically acclaimed (justly so) knowing it's kinda a rip off of Merry Muppet Christmas Movie?
      I thought both were outstanding. I just don't think people realize that they went down that road twice! (and I'd take Joan Cusack's Ms. Bitterman over Chris Cooper's Tex Richman any day, she was marvelous as was David Arquette as the angel)

    • @Jambareeqi

    Something everyone ignores and forgets about a christmas carol. Scrooge wasn't greedy, he was petrified of poverty. He didn't spend any of that money on himself, he hoarded it as a massive insurance policy. He forbade himself any and all extravagance. In modern terms he would be living in a tiny beat up apartment, only turning lights on at night when he is still up, only eating microwave meals, only a basic calling cell phone for work and runs on minutes, no tv at all, and likely not even a radio for anything other than the news. That is the true message about it, it is about how scrooge denied himself a happy life, and all the damage he left in that wake.

    Muppet Caper is the best because the focus is entirely on the Muppets, plus it's the most well-made, well-scripted, and most self-assured. I don't really see the appeal of Treasure Island and Christmas Carol, they use the muppets as a backdrop and not as the main focus

    • @maggieent3215
      @maggieent3215 4 роки тому +1

      Oh? Well, you are entitled to your own opinion, and I like caper too. However, please be open to changing your view on Muppets Christmas Carol! Christmas Carol is less focused on the Muppets, yes, but there's a Storyteller- like purity to it. The wackiness is blended with the kindness the muppets have, and Gonzo is great as Charles Dickens! Think of it as a play performed by the Muppets. Also, Caine I feel bounces quite well off the Muppets, adding a gravity to the show that is like the Guest Stars in the Muppet Show. Anyways my rushed essay is done now. Please, weigh in (but don't do so with a heavy heart!)

      There's only so much time I have with these countdown segments, talking about the songs for each film would drag the video on (and it's at least half an hour long already), so it's best to focus on the main reasons why I dislike/like the films. I tend to go into more depth about the musical numbers in my actual reviews of the Muppet films, which can be found on my channel as part of a series called "Puppet Panic".

    As for the movies, on the worst list, I only saw Muppets From Space and Kermit’s Swamp Years once each and they were boring to say the least. And the only other ones I’ve seen were The Muppet Movie (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted. Should really check out the others😅
