By the way, let me know what you think of my inclusion of sound bites at the beginning of each spot on the list (when it displays the number).
I thought I'd try it out here, Schaffrillas does this in his ranking videos and its great, but I don't want to be accused of copying him. However the sound bites add so much charm to each entry on the list before the main commentary comes in, and I wanted to do that here.
So let me know if I should keep doing that in my future ranking videos or not.
I was gonna say, the Schaffrillas influence is very apparent here. I actually think ending the segments with Statler and Waldorf was a clever touch.
I’d say it’s all good. Schaffrillas doesn’t own a trademark on “using sound bites in top 10s” and you are not copying exactly what he does with his sound bites either.
Hey rockotar, you've completed the unholy trinity for disney, now can you do an unholy trinity for dreamworks or Sony animation? "Thank you for your understanding "
I cracked up for the Candace letters to Santa but.
But seriously, quit watching Shaffrilas. He’s almost as profane as the Game Grumps and he doesn’t need any more support
@@musingsofahomeschooler5332 The man needs to be taken down a peg.
maybe I'm a little too sensitive but that scene where gonzo screams into the sky "I don't wanna be alone!" always gets me so teary eyed, anyone who's experienced real loneliness knows how horrible it feels to think your completely alone in the world💔
Same here, man 😭
Muppets most wanted is my personal favorite too because of the endless jokes. I couldn’t stop laughing at when Walter and fozzie finding out who Constantine really is, and also the scene when Constantine was using metal jaws(reference from 007)to scare Fozzie, animal, and Walter.
Same
he was trying to be so scary with those teeth but he looked so ridiculous 😆
I can’t decide the great muppet and muppets most wanted
I dont mean to be disrespectful, but some of your critiques come across as though you don't understand the Muppets or the time it was made in.
"Kermit is too mean" Kermit was a pretty big grouch in the original Muppet Show. He fatshamed Piggy, called his costars idiots, etc. He was the stressed-out producer archetype.
And a lot of the "pointless scenes" that seem useless to the plot are bits. The Muppets borrows heavily from Vaudeville, so their movies have an overall plot but its filled with guest stars and random gags. That's the format. Its like a Mel Brooks movie; not everything has to be this tight, relevant plot-important beat.
finally a fandom that isn’t toxic
I know right
Thomas The Tank Engine fandom
Most fandoms are fine. It's the studios which went toxic.
The smaller the fandom. The better it is.
@@marcusblackwell2372 its usually pretty chill, but it has its issues, mainly gatekeeping important stuff
46:52 the person who replaced Steve whitmire (Kermit's voice after Jim Henson) is the actor who voiced Constantine (evil Kermit in most wanted)
Are we gonna gloss over the fact that Constantine literally blows up a gulag in the beginning of muppets most wanted? So therefore I’d argue that Constantine has the most kills for a muppet villain lol
The Muppet Christmas Carol is my favorite
I know right
It's a great one
Michael Caine makes the movie for me personally. From what I've read, Caine made sure to act as though he was acting with other humans and not puppets, which adds how amazing he did, treating it like a genuine movie, not a Muppets adapted movie
From space ranked higher than the original is take I’ve genuinely never seen before, props to you.
Space is so underrated. Fantastic film!
Fun Fact: Matt Vogel, the voice for Constantine, voices Kermit in The Haunted Mansion. No wonder he didn’t sound anything like Kermit! I guess that means Constantine actually replaced him! That little scoundrel accomplished his goal! 🤣
I thought that, too!
Me three bitch 😂
Danny Trejo literally just being Danny Trejo is still one of my favourite muppet jokes
the bit of Fozzie being chased sounds so bizarre to me since I haven’t seen the film. Like wow, what a summary
I know right
Everything you said about The Muppets 2011 is so accurate to how I feel about it. Since I saw it, Walter has been my favorite Muppets character; his passion for the Muppets really drives this movie for me. You can tell how deeply he cherishes the Muppets for what they are, how much meaning and happiness he gained from them. He is so willing to help them see that, he actually has to learn to step out of his own comfort zone. To me, that’s such a powerful arc for a protagonist to have. And boy are the songs BANGERS! They’re emotionally resonating, wholesome, hilarious, catchy, and nothing short of joyful ☺️ I’m so glad to live in a day and age where The Muppets got a film that paid such a beautiful homage to their history, as well as to the heart and soul of the man who created them ❤️
I feel like you don’t know who Joan Rivers or Liza Minnelli are because those are the two best scenes in The Muppets Take Manhattan
Fr. Not blaming the video creator, but pop culture literacy is in a bad spot.
Steve never should have been fired.
You're right.
Same with Frank oz
@@smcphee8499 He wasn't fired though.
@@Asukenickoh. I thought he was.
i agree that his new voice isnt the best but saying steve should never have been fired is a bit of a stretch since it came out that he was sort of a dick
The Ms Piggy roller-skating scene alone makes Muppets Take Manhattan one of my favorites
35:38 I'm a Muppets take Manhattan fan, but that stems from childhood nostalgia as I'd watch this one the most as a kid hahaha. I wouldn't say it's terrible by any means, there are some really lovely moments, my favourite probably being when Kermit yells from the top of a skyscraper about how he refuses to give up (makes me tear up). Also I highly recommend Little Shop of Horrors (1986) also directed by Oz- the direction in that film is so expressive and stylish, especially during the musical sequences (seek out the directors cut if you can). Great video, long live the Muppets
The end of The Muppets Take Manhattan made me cry, because A - fake or not, I tend to cry at wedding scenes, and B - this was the last Muppet movie that involved Jim Henson before he passed away in 1990....
Best movie ❤
Cant wait for the jim doc may 31st on Disney plus
32:00 its not a backdoor pilot. The show was suggested afterwards due to the popularity of mcdonalds toys
Yeah, I was just joking there, since there isn't really a point to that scene.
Muppets from space, can't be beat. Fight me.
All of your takes on the Muppet Movie are so hot that they burned me... the Muppet Movie should be in the top 3, at the very least.
The scene in The Great Muppet Caper where Kermit & the guy on the bench is even funnier when you know who the guy is & the show (Columbo) he starred in.
I like Muppets take Manhattan. I thought it was a pretty good movie.
I think however, The Muppets Wizard of Oz was the worst. I absolutely loathe that movie
It’s the strangest movie I’ve ever seen in my life
At least it’s closer to the book.
You need to read the book. You’d be surprised how much source material they used.
I know right 😖😖😖😖
@@emilysmith4213 they’re just sticking to the source material.
Can't say I agree with all your takes but putting Muppets From Space that high on the list will make me forgive you anything. That was my FAVOURITE muppet movie growing up (I was an alien kid idk) and when people hate on it I get so mad XD thank you for giving it due credit!
I was just about to go eat, thanks for providing my entertainment for the next hour and a half
46:35 There was two reasons, 1. The Henson family requested it feeling the muppeteer was too unprofessional and too protective over the character for their liking and 2. Steve refused to have an understudy and train him to be Kermit for smaller events like talk shows, WWE etc since Disney has a rule where all the characters must have a double actor in case the original can’t come back for a project ( Jim Hanks and Tom Hanks for example )
I remember first watching It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie during some dark times during my childhood. I laughed my ass off at Fozzie being burned 3 times by the lasers.
Me and my homies quote Muppets most wanted all the time to date
"My indoor running of the bulls went horribly wrong! Who could've seen this coming?"
so fun fact about the marriage scene in muppets take manhatten
in the book version of the 2011 movie that incident is what caused piggy and kermit to break up. kermit was mad that she tricked him into really getting married
Very Interesting
@@Rockotarthepurplehatguythe muppets take manhattan, and muppets from space are coming to disney plus soon in May 2024.
Finally, some damn respect for Muppets from Space.
It’s kinda sad how muppets most wanted didn’t do better than the 2011 one because it so much better.
Steve liked that movie more too.
@@Asukenick I wonder how Frank oz feels about it.
thanks for the love on a great muppet caper. one of the best movies ever, generally speaking.
Muppets are love, Muppets are life.
You missed Muppet Family Christmas(1987).
Yeah, I kind of forgot that was even a thing until I was deep into making this video.
Where would you rank it?
@@JJSquirtle I dunno, it's definitely one of the better movies.
20:38 "All three of the witches." FOUR. There are FOUR witches. Two good ones, two evil ones. JUST LIKE IN THE ORIGINAL BOOK. The MGM movie combined the two good witches into one, thereby ruining them both as characters. At least the Muppet version got the number of witches right.
Literally all 3 of my favourites were also your 3 favourites.
The Muppets (2011) While I don’t remember much from it, I do remember the climax being great, the songs being brilliant (especially Am I A Man Or A Muppet) and the We Built This City montage being peak cinema.
Muppets Most Wanted… aaah~ The history my family has with this movie. We bought it one DVD and loved it ever since. It’s actually become a part of our normal lives know, with my dad constantly quoting the interrogation song. Plus the plot was genius, and it had Ricky Gervais in it.
And… finally… Muppets Christmas Carol. The greatest way to experience A Christmas Carol in movie form. And also a wonderful adaptation that doesn’t dampen, but instead adds to the meaningful message of a legendary novella. Our family has a tradition where we watch it every Christmas Eve, due to Kermit’s song After All There’s Only One More Sleep Til Christmas. Micheal Caine is a legendary actor who plays Scrooge perfectly, and there is never a dull moment throughout the movie, and the songs never fail to bring me to the brink of tears. Good bless us, everyone.
Thanks for reading.
Scrooge in my opinion was way to nice
@@user-it8re8jv2l I suppose, but It doesn’t really bother me. They probably did it so he wouldn’t seem unlikeable.
My favourite Christmas Carol rendition is from the Disney movie with all the major Disney icons telling stories as they're snowed in.
Frank Oz was started his directing career Bumby with Muppets Take Manhattan.
If you want to see director Frank Oz at his best, watch Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and What About Bob.
kermit's new voice genuinely horrified me.. I will never forgive Disney for getting rid of Whitmire, bastards..
Hey, cut Matt Vogal some slack, it ain't his fault.
@@chiebukachibee-zoraedu it's not Matt I'm upset with, his kermit voice is absolutely horrendous but I don't hold it against him personally, I'm miffed about Disney getting rid of one of the legacy puppeteers for the Henson company because he disagreed with the way the muppets were headed, same thing happened to Kevin Clash only much worse because they framed him for some bullshit he didn't even do.
Rocko out here acting like a christian and leaving likes on foul comments and Schaffrilas videos
I think y’all are too used to Steve voice because his Kermit sounds nothing like Jim’s Kermit. So I don’t see why Matt can’t do his own Kermit voice instead of impersonating Steve’s. Honestly he sounds closer to Jim’s Kermit than Steve ever did. Steve shouldn’t have been fired though.
he played Rizzo too right? that's why we don't see a lot of him anymore either?
You forgot about Muppet family Christmas, which is one of my favorites. I think I would place it after Muppet treasure Island.
just in case you haven't figured it out by the time you reach the muppets most wanted segment (I'm in the haunted mansion segment), Kermit's New Voice? yep, that's constantine....
kinda makes that movie extra hilarious in hindsight...
Puppet butt is going into the arsenal of phrases.
MAN! I am a huge fan of your content and what a huge coincidence, I also made a ranking of all the Muppet movies a few months ago. It's crazy how we were one spot away from putting the same movie on the first place. Your video is very incredible. Greetings from Latin America.
YES! THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER IS SO GOOD!
🎶"IIIII'M (he'S) NUMBER ONE!"🎶
(I love Muppets Most Wanted!)
Muppets treasure islands, muppets Christmas carols and the muppets from from 2011 are my top. I made my aunt stay up till 4am watching the muppets treasure island when I was a toddler apparently 🤣I’m 20 now and still love it
40:13 The emperor's new clothes and King Midas segments were pretty good! They also deviated quite a bit from the source material
I'll just randomly think of songs from Muppets most wanted sometimes
I'm honestly amazed at how much better Muppet Christmas Carol gets every year. It somehow manages to capture the spirit of the book while at the same time being true to the Muppet humor without it overtaking the messages and meanings of Dickens' story. And every Muppet is just cast so perfectly in their roles. Ironically enough whenever I think of Bob Crachitt, I just think of Kermit because he's just the perfect embodiment of what made the character so endearing. Same with Michael Caine's performance as the boss man himself. Whenever I reread the book, I just naturally hear his voice.
And no, this is not coming from a nostalgia point of view as I only saw the film for the first time three years ago. I just think it's a tremendous movie that critics and audiences slept on when it was released. It is a beautiful love letter to Brian Henson's father and to the story Dickens wrote.
Light the lamp, not the rat!!!!
you've done it again rockotar, you've made yet another masterpiece of a video, I applaud you purple hatted sir👍
Thank you very much my good fellow.
I liked the Moulin Scrooge! scene in AVMMCM, but that's because I love the original, and because I like any fourth wall break regarding that trope when multiple people in a musical sing different things at the same time.
Edit: I like Muppets Take Manhattan but the vibe is very weird. People don't make films like that anymore, where it's purposefully low key and there's no real villain except life itself and the jokes are there to make you smile rather than laugh.
It's like that film with Frank Sinatra and two other famous singers who are sailors who get shore leave, and they don't really do much for the entire film aside from get girlfriends.
I grew up with Kermit’s Swamp Years, I always knew it wasn’t great but I wouldn’t say it was without merit
Listing my favourite parts of each movie:
14: Bernie the alligator cameo, Kermits Tongue, and Official confirmation of puppophobia
13: Doc Hopper + Gonzo Song + It spawned the kermit 9/11 theory.
12. Friends of dorothy, Stoner Mayhem Confirmed
11. Miss Piggy Chase scene, Miss Piggy bending metal, The muppets are at their normal likability as characters(unlike the first 3 where some of them kinda lost their likability). And miss piggy jealousy arc is fully in character.
10. Jewzoot, Gonzzie duet, and the Gonzrizzope dynamic
9. Didnt watch
8. Gonpe Dynamic, Darren Criss, Every Easter Egg, Celebrity Cameos
7. Gonzrizzo, Stretchy Gonzo
6. Everything. This is my favourite muppet movie. Also miss piggy killing nazis.
5. All the muppets live in the same house. Focus on gonzo. Pepe and rizzo.
4. Sense of humor is funny as shit. Miss Piggy Swimming.
3. Everything except the rats singing island in the sun
2. Everything except Jason and Mary. Which is tough since theyre focused on too much.
1. Tina Fay. Goofiness.
I know right
0:43 no it’s actually according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, that they declare a feature film to be more that 40 minutes long anything less is considered a short film.
my first experience with the muppet’s wizard of oz occurred when my sunday school teacher (also the pastor’s wife) took me to blockbuster while babysitting me and allowed me to choose one movie to enjoy after my naptime. me, being a young and blunt (read: autistic) child I immediately recognized muppet media as a comfort franchise that allowed me to engage in some form of routine and requested the dvd off the shelf with some curiosity since I had never seen it. I have never and will never forget her reaction. she had some very interesting words for my parents about monitoring my viewing habits (although my mom found it incredibly funny).
thanks for putting most wanted on first place i cant believe we never got a third part
Really well made video I may not agree with all of these placements but it’s neat that we share the same top 3 movies
im so glad muppets from space is finally getting the recognition it deserves!!
33:20 this guy actually does appear in the movie before this. In the montage of shopping the show around he can be seen with his dad (I think it's the first one?)
Guess he seemed so unimportant that I forgot. They probably should have put a small emphasis on him for a brief moment to make the audience wonder what he is thinking, that way when he shows up again we remember who he is and realize what what was being hinted at before.
@@Rockotarthepurplehatguyyeah it's weird he's in the background but they don't bring up how he saw them before
My personal ranking, muppet wizard of Oz, Kermits swamp years, a very merry muppet Christmas, letters to Santa, a great muppet caper, muppets most wanted, muppets 2011, muppets take Manhatten, muppets from space, muppet treasure island, muppet Christmas Carol, original
I've recently been getting back into your content, love your videos
56:39
I think you really hit the nail on the head with your analysis of the ending and message of Muppets from Space. As a fan of the film, not only because it focuses on Gonzo (my favorite muppet), I think it’s as funny and heartwarming as the highly regarded. It’s a shame that this movie is so looked down upon
Do a Cars 2 is overhated review
Personally, I love cars 2
@@burritocat6038 Me too best pixar movie
I loved this video!!! Once again you gave excellent points about what made each of them work!!
I gotta say that my personal favorite Muppet movie is Muppet Treasure Island! It may be a nostalgia thing, but Tim Curry SELLS that role and he’s clearly having the time of his life.
Great video as always! 😊
I cannot believe you put muppets of oz at 12 its one of the best
Great list, I think you have some real great points, love to see some Muppets From Space respect, keep it up man, enjoy the subscription :)
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has Muppets Most Wanted as their favorite. I love that movie so much it’s one of my favorite movies period. It’s funny, unique and has a great soundtrack. It’s definitely what got me into the Muppets.
I actually like Kermit’s swamp years I used to watch it when I was little
I think the Muppets (2011) is better than Muppets: Most Wanted
All I’ll say is that Most Wanted is so funny that my friend who’s ancestors died in a Siberian Gulag found it hilarious
You're ranking is yours, and it's totally legit. You say you're a younger person and the newer films hit your favor. I get your current rankings, bc of that.
Based on your criteria, I think you skipped over 3 titles.... The Lady Gaga Xmas special, Emmett Otter, and the Great Santa Switch. Maybe the last 2 are too old to make the cut, and Gaga was only a Muppet feature. It doesn't really matter.
As someone who grew up with them Muppets in the 70s/80s, I want you to rethink the 2 new movies when you rewatch them.
I'll admit, I'm a little jaded about Most Wanted bc I saw it in theaters with a friend who was from Georgia (the country, not state), and never seen a Muppet movie before. They were quite offended by the low-brow gulag humor. Tina Faye and the whole Gulag plot is uncomfortably racist.
Meanwhile, I heard a whole Muppets reboot hinged on the Walter movie. As a stand alone, it's cute.... But as a relaunch of a franchise it was absolutely terrible. The plot was "NO one cares about the Muppets anymore. Let's do a fundraiser to save the Muppets, and ultimately... It proves that no one cares about the Muppets anymore."
If the plot conclusion of a franchise revival is 'folks really aren't interested'.... Idk how they even got a sequel!
I really liked the new 'the muppets' TV show, but Disney aired it on ABC during the" death of broadcast tv"... Killing the property after low views.
You didn't really like Muppets Take Manhattan, but I challenge that this is exactly what makes good Muppets. No villian, Kermit or Muppet as main character (M from Space?). Manhattan is a very 80s plot, and I don't blame you for being bored by jokes I cackle at as a GenXer. IMHO, that scene bt Piggy and Joan Rivers is about the funniest skit ever, en par with Jean Stapleton and Crazy Harry. It's not timeless, but it's iconic for it's time.
Perhaps that's the indefatigable conundrum of the Muppets. There is a desire to keep them present, bc they feel timeless..... But they, in fact, are not.
Henson invented their innocent/absurdist humor. Parallel with Monty Python, they transformed the humor of the 60/70s...but while the Pythons got old, puppets never age. It's why they're more successful performing established tales VS new stories of their own.
The Muppets need a visionary leader (free of the Disney leash holders)... Or they will decay to the status of Disney props.
If they are regulated to intrepting existing works, Fuck this Gatsby movement! I want watch the Muppets perform THE VISIT. Piggy as Claire, Kermit as Authur. Gawd, it might be the best Muppets ever!
Most Wanted slaps and I’m so happy to see it at the top (It’s not my 1 favorite but it’s pretty high up there for me. Won’t say what my favorite one is cause I’ve been working on a Muppet movie ranking too)
Certified hood classic
had to leave the video for a moment to listen to we’re doing a sequel maybe 11 times
Fantastic Analysis
Oh hell yeah
I think the quality of the songs is why the top three are my top three as well.
Scrooge, Man or Muppet, Interrogation Song just to name one from each.
Rainbow connection is still one of the most beautiful melodys and songs ever, its positive and sweet without being cringe in fact its the absolute opposite of the cringes
Called it!
the great muppet caper is honestly so underrated i was dying over the guy completely SIMPING for miss piggy because she gets taken as unattractive kinda often in these movies to an extent even though she's first shown winning a beauty pageant. there were so many funny scenes, but him going gaga over her made me laugh a lot lmao
The 2011 Muppets movie is the first movie that ever made me cry in a theater. That says a lot about it.
I cried at Fozziwig's party in Christmas Carol. And talking about Tiny Tim.
Niagara Falls...
Solid list my personal favorite is the great muppet caper but otherwise I think you nailed most of the other picks
Something so right
Should’ve been Oscar nominated
My brothers and I watched the hell out of muppet classic theater lol
LETS GO! You did a Muppet Movie ranking. I live the Muppets and all of their movies hold a special charm to me so seeing you do this is great!
Also based number 1 pick. Muppets Most Wanted is goated.
I also put Muppets Take Manhattan pretty low on my list. It has some good moments and songs, but for me it seems the most dated of the theatrical films. Like "Space" feels a little 90s, but MTM straight up feels like an "80s Movie". Muppet movies should feel timeless, but by making 1980s NYC the center piece of the movie, it dates the whole thing.
Commenting before I watch the video: I love the Muppets. Not just love, adore. They’ve shaped me as a person and for that I hold nothing but love for it. That being said, there’s some absolute shit tied to this franchise (mostly the specials, the movies at their worst are Muppets in Space which is like a 3-4/10 for me)
4:24 That moment in the movie will always be the funniest ever every single time i am reminiscing about it.
I will say in defense of the one where you said it randomly turns into it's a wonderful life, I was clearly its a wonderful life the whole time. Most people only know the ending bit but almost the ENTIRE movie of that movie is God telling an angel about all of the tragedies that happened to the main character by showing it out to the audience and most of them are created because of the evil guy from the bank. Actually that scene where Fozzie has a major mix up with the santa bag is accurate too. In its a wonderful life the main characters uncle looses a ton of money and the character goes bankrupt causing the part of the movie everyone knows about. Like I'm sure the muppets version is bad but that's definitely accurate to the actual movie
Like it actually sounds like an EXTREMELY (muppetified) but accurate depiction of it's a wonderful life. I'm not saying the Muppet version is good I've actually never seen it, but if you're gonna claim something is shoehorned in randomly it may be helpful to actually know the source material
@@cassieellison3459 yeah, I don't know why I haven't actually seen the original it's a wonderful life. I suspected there were probably more elements than the ending, but all the stuff revolving around the plot elements of the original is still forced in.
@Rockotarthepurplehatguy oh I'm sure, I'm not hating on the video at all, I would be curious how much your thoughts would change after seeing the original, because that ending part is like the last 30 minutes of the 2 hour and 10 min movie
Man, first I see George Bluth, then Lucille 2, how much of the cast of Arrested Development are in these movies?
I love the Muppet movies, most of them. :)
Steve was in every one except of course for the most recent one.
I actually grew up w muppet classic theatre. I really enjoyed it as a kid but when I tried to watch it after rediscovering it recently I couldn’t finish it.
It almost seems like Muppets Wizard of Oz is based more on the broadway musical of The Wiz rather than regular Wizard of Oz. That would explain the monkey biker gang and more modern setting.
At the same time though I havent seen the Wiz, so I could be totally wrong on this
Needed this video. I’m going through my muppets phase again.
Anyway my top 10 muppet movies ranking
1 The great muppet caper
2 Muppets most wanted
3 Muppet Christmas carol
4 The muppets 2011
5 The muppet movie
6 Muppets from space
7 Muppets treasure island
8The muppets takes Manhattan
9 Muppets Haunted Mansion
10 The Muppet’s Wizard of Oz
Had a hard time picking between Most wanted and the Great Muppet Caper. The great muppet caper is number 1 because it focus more on the muppets.
Other edit after watch muppets haunted mansion and rewatching muppets from space I change my list.
I’ve finally found another person who agrees that Muppets Most Wanted is the best Muppet movie
hoping muppets go to disney shows up!!
I’m gonna always love you is amazing. It’s one of my favorite muppet songs
Whoppi Goldberg as god is like the worst casting choice ever 😭
Who do you think would be a better Muppet God (besides Jim Henson, but he's long gone)?
Honestly i always looked over the muppet movies and thought "oh their just downright for kids" the only movie i actually liked was The Muppet Movie but after this ranking i think i will give these movies a try and see what are you talking about.
@USANATV2007 yeah im going to go in release order starting with the one I thought was good.
