  • Skye, our two-and-a-half-year-old Norwegian Elkhound absolutely loves the snow! Although we are yet to get a snowstorm of more than four inches this winter, Skye enjoys every moment she can in the frozen, white landscape, even rolling in the remaining piles of snow left by the snowplows!
The weather here in Sequim, Washington, in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains and sometimes beneath the Blue Hole is dynamic and constantly changing, resulting in magnificent sunrises and sunsets, and layered cloud formations at multiple elevations that are pushed and twisted by weather front winds that are forced to split by the Olympic Mountains. The best way that I have found to show this fascinating dynamic is to record time-lapse video.
My objective for this video was to assemble scenes of our changing winter weather and outdoor adventures with Skye, and add dramatic instrumental music tracks (actually, 3 songs). I removed almost all our voices, so the story is told, and the mood is set by the imagery and music. It took me many days and hours of editing (24 hours at least) to finally get a video that I like, and of course, I see some things that I could improve, like removing some of the water view scenes. But the length of the video and pace with the music work well, so I am leaving it as is.
After exploring ideas for a title, this is what I came up with: “Embracing Winter with our Norwegian Elkhound - Dungeness Valley, Sequim.” It will be interesting to see how many views this video gets. However, from my experience with posting scenic outdoor videos, they are not as popular as are How To or DIY videos.
