The best part of this song is the fact that they have 3 simultaneous solos going on at once, and they bring it back in on a sick transition. This band is so ridiculously good!
I think the big reason girls don't "get" or like Rush is b/c they don't do love songs and most of them are philosophical or oriented towards time and/or space.
@@cl8onj388 depends on the woman, there is many of us who really get into Rush, dont think it has anything to do with love songs. I love the music itself and the deep lyrics that will make you think about things. My top 3 bands and one of the best bands i have seen live.
I always felt By-Tor and the Snow Dog was wayyyy ahead of it's time with the way it was written entirely as a guitar battle that also told a story and imho so very under-rated.
RUSH always has smooth transitions in their music. Limelight, Red Barchetta, The Trees, Ghost Of A Chance, Available Light, Subdivisions are just a few you should check out. PS- Where's the 409? Peace.
As a drummer, learning many of the transitions(This song in particular) can injure you physically and mentally. LOL But, they make you a better drummer regardless of what else you play.
I was wondering the same thing about the 409. Does it signify something? Are you a clean freak? Did you do a shitload of videos in one day? Did you just not bother putting it away for several days? S'up?
Anyone that reacts to Rush songs is cool in my book. One little suggestion. It is cool that you made a comment on the lyrics. But I suggest having the lyrics in front of you. You cannot fully appreciate Rush without listening or reading the lyrics. The Drummer, Neil Peart, is not only the greatest drummer, IMHO, of all time, but the greatest lyricist of all time. When Geddy and Alex hired Neil to be the drummer, they noticed he was a voracious reader. So they thought, "this guy should be able to write lyrics!: And boy did he ever. In fact, Geddy thought Neil's lyrics were so deep, that he said, it was sometimes a struggle to pronounce all the words correctly. In other words, "His lyrics were a mouthful!" So word to the wise my youthful friends. READ, READ, READ!
I've followed all of your Led Zeppelin journey, absolutely loved all those reactions, and your feel for the music. I've beena rush fan for pretty much all my life. RUSH has some really long and epic tracks also, to which I highly recommend; La Villa Strangiato, Xanadu, 2112, Cygnus X1 part 1 and part 2. If you would like a shorter but epic track; The Trees, Closer To The Heart, Tears !! There are actually so many great tracks and songs ! Also totally advise to check out videos of live performances.
Love how you just totally get fully into the music in such a pure way! No preconceived notions; you just go with it and enjoy the vibe. Rush is definitely musician music in many ways and you instantly get and appreciate that. All 3 are exceptional instrumentalists yet they are great arrangers and songwriters, too. I’d suggest a live song next so you can see their incredible live sound - YYZ - live in Rio (instrumental). Then I’d suggest: - The Spirit of Radio (studio version) - Limelight (studio version) - Working Man (any version) - Closer to the Heart (any version) Good luck and success!
More Rush,"workin man","spirit of radio","subdivisions","limelight","yyz","2112"so many more. All three members are masters of the instruments they play. ☮️
Geddy’s version makes a lot more sense and is more accurate. If you “chose’ to not make a decision, you certainly have still made a “choice”. Geddy’s verse creates a bit of a dichotomy. You made a choice by not making a choice. A much more classic lyric. That’s why it takes all three of them to make Rush. By the time it makes it completely around the table, it is perfection.
@@mikereiss4216 I guess I was misinformed somewhere down the road but It's definitely his lyrics that brought him the title, "The Professor" despite his prowess behind that kit of his.
La Villa strangiato is great. I recommend watching a live concert version, like from exit stage left (in the 80s) or more recently from I believe the r30 or r40 concert tour.
Rush is a band that I learned to appreciate as I got older. I never liked the lead singer’s voice much but then I realized their powerful song lyrics and the awesome drumming.
As a young adult, I think you will appreciate "Subdivisions" by Rush. Music is great and lyrics are about the pressures of young adults to fit in with their peers and figuring out their future.

Super tight mix from Rush!! Thank you so much for this. The drums, the bass, and then there's that guitar solo... Oh man hide the kids, get in the bomb shelter. Alex Lifeson just brought the rage and destruction. Rewind that solo back. It's just crushing. Devastating. You don't hear that level of playing in modern music...
Amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us. And FYI, my 13-year-old daughter came in while I was listening to your "Let Him Go" and looked at me strangely. She said she likes it but was a bit shocked to see me enjoying it.
This is a life tool. You can choose from phantom fears or kindness that can kill. 'Epic' and 'Legendary' are very appropriate to describe this song. Can you believe they won not a single award for anything on this album? Absolute crime.
Neil won "Best Recorded Performance" from Modern Drummer magazine for Permanent Waves. Then he won it again another 15 times for their subsequent albums until they create a Hall of Fame for him so they could disqualify him from competing for further awards.
"Sci-fi rock 'n roll." YES! I see that you've checked out '2112' already, but don't sleep on 'Hemispheres'. Trust me. It's next-level sh*t. My brother Tracy (RIP) turned me onto Rush when I was about 4 years old in 1980 & I've never turned back. That's awesome that you like them. :)

Rush is a Masterclass in how to transition, often multiple times in the same song. One piece of advice I have is listen to the studio tracks first before live tracks so you have a frame of reference. The transitions in Spirit Of Radio will leave you amazed. Red Barchetta has one of the best fade in intros you will ever hear. YYZ, one of their few instrumentals, is another mind blowing transition to transition to transition yet still keeping a central theme. If you ever feel up to it (and this is a BIG ask because it is 20+ min long) listen to 2112. This is one of those, turn down the lights, put on the headphones (earbuds will not do it justice) remove all distractions and concentrate on what is coming into your ears. People will talk about musicians making a soundscape, well 2112 is an epic trilogy all done with instruments and Geddy Lee's voice.
One word "EXCELLENCE". Rush will be remembered as the prog band that did it all. Each album is as different as the next. Big Money is a great song by Rush.
She describes the transition from the solo as “epically legendary” . Even though, there are other Rush songs I would put ahead of freewill if I were putting together my own top 5 favorite songs list. I just cannot ignore the fact, that Freewill is the only Rush song that gives me goose bumps, everytime I hear it. And always, brought on, by that same, “epically legendary” transition.
