Geisha drinking game: nuisance neighbor

- One of the drinking games that is typical at a Kyoto ozashiki, featuring real geiko and maiko at a tea house. The player tries to guess how many fingers will be shown on the count of three. Each person can show one hand or none. If correct, the next player guesses. If wrong, the person sitting to the player's right must drink (beer or rice wine)
The reason for the "nuisance" name is that if the player guesses wrong, nothing happens, but if he or she guesses correctly, the guest to the player's right has to drink. Comedian Kobeicho Katsura is the host. This is from a DVD from V-1 called Ozashiki Asobi (teahouse party games), which I would link here, but it seems their website is defunct.
I really enjoy the singsong chant they say before each person drinks.
Ichiume has very good balance, its very hard to lift your head in that style of katsura, and she made leaning to take the shot so graceful, despite the awkwardness in realizing you cannot lift your head

I think there may be an error in translation regarding the fun handsome man (couldn't resist). From what Japanese internet tells me, that's the son of Beicho Katsura, a legendary rakugo actor - 桂米団治, Katsuro Yonedanji (Katsuro Kobeicho II at the time of writing). Since the original documentary is French, I think the uploader mistranslated "comédien", which actually means "actor" in English. Yonedanji-san is a famous rakugo actor himself - which explains why he's so familiar with the geisha and their games; they're part of the same world. Apparently he also likes piano, oil painting, ancient history and Mozart - who he says he's the reincarnation of. I am inclined to believe it :)

my intention is to upload the various games and various parts I really like. The time-consuming part is creating the translations and subtitles/captions. Thus, a Coronavirus era, stay at home project.
I really hope you will upload this! I would love to see it as there is such limited content available on Geisha and these are quite interesting. I would love to learn these games and songs - a little part of the culture preserved in all those who learn from them. .

If I can guess the geimaiko's ages. In the video Ichisono was 43 years old, Ichikiku was 30, Ichisayo was 27, Ichiume was 42 and Momizuru was 56 years old and the maiko's ages, Kimika was 18 whereas Miyoharu was same age as her. Kimika became no. 1 of her district of Miyagawa-cho taking Kikutsuru's rank as a maiko. P.S. Kikutsuru debuted on 2002, two years before Kimika's debut in 2004 and she became a geiko in 2007. Which means Kikutsuru was older than Kimika-san. And Kimika became a geiko in 2009, same year as Miehina san had her erikae after her.

No, there are not 4 geikos, there is another geiko in the video, Geiko Momizuru of Pontocho, which means there's 2 maiko and 5 geikos.

How amazing this ozashiki culture is preserved in this DVD for the next generations so it doesn't bet lost. Are you going to upload the whole DVD? I'd love to watch it.
Too bad a beautiful, subtle and misunderstood work is lost just like in this video without the context. And so the image of the Geishas will be scratched :(

Geisha's do not sleep with their customers. In fact back then it was strictly forbidden, except for a few of them that didn't follow that rule. But most geisha's nowadays don't sleep with their customers, and only serve as entertainers.

@@cococoffee2305 really, there are only 2 layers of actual kimono. The difference with the kimono that apprentices and young geisha wear is that their kimono are much longer with trailing hems (this type of kimono is called hikizuri) so otherwise it would be pretty similar to going to the bathroom while wearing normal kimono
they have special old fashioned toilets usually in those places, but typically the geisha don't drink or eat before work- they eat breakfast and lunch if time permits but nothing in between or afterwards.
I had the chance to wear a kimono once for a college culture club festival. There aren't that many layers but it took almost 30+ minutes to put on the whole thing with assistance. I refused to drink anything the whole time because I feel like trying to use the restroom wearing it would have been hard,as it was already hard to walk. (Baby steps)
@@burritosenpai5890 avid kimono wearers seem to glide in them when they aren't held up. geisha and maiko usually are able to power walk in them- but that's when they carry the hem.
