Good Vibrations (Wilson/Love) in GarageBand
Brian Wilson's pocket symphony with I guess 4 movements. For the animation, I was going for a combo of Luci Baines Johnson dancing the watusi, mixed with Beach Blanket Bingo vibes.

I've known the doo wop vocal parts to this one since high school, so I thought it would quick and easy to record this. Not so. I had to relearn each bit and the melody is challenging to do it justice. Here I tried to combine what I like about his live and studio versions.

I first heard this Billy Joel tune on a rerun of TAXI and loved it from then, so I was really excited to find out it was a Joel song when he played it in concert at the Joe Louis Arena. The lyrics are about getting older.
In Your Eyes Gabriel cover in Garageband

My second attempt at a cover of this Peter Gabriel song, but this time, I tried to come as close as I could to the original studio version that was produced by Daniel Lanois and Peter Gabriel. I consider that one of the greatest pop song productions ever. Eric Henzi, Popi Uno, and Ai Carrick contributed to the backing vocals.
Carrick mentioned on Castle Rock Ep 8

Our family name is not all that common to see in pop culture, but Stephen King named a character Carrick in Dead Zone (the owner of the bar who refuses to buy a lightning rod and pays the price). The Hulu show threw in a mention of someone name Johnny Carrick as a murdered resident of the town Castle Rock. I'm guessing this was invented by the show writers and not existing Stephen King mythology.
Alec Baldwin early Pacino impression compared to actual clip

Good impression by Baldwin of Pacino's higher voice from early in his career, backed with the actual SERPICO clip of the line.

This started out as just trying to imitate the sound of the jangly tack piano on this track, but after I found a breakdown of the 4-track recording from the White Album, I decided to try and come as close as I could to the original. Hearing the isolated tracks, I found many surprises, including that I had not been playing the correct chords all these years. But I love the joyous, sing-along vib...
I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (Scissor Sisters) cover on Garageband

I just recently discovered this 2006 tune, and I wanted to arrange a version that feels more like late 70s disco, and to see if I could get away with falsetto vocals à la the Bee Gees. In the end, I had to use a few production tricks because my falsetto did not sound too great. ua-cam.com/video/WKRJX6h1CqE/v-deo.html Watching this fellow’s bass cover was very helpful in putting this together. I...

When I was in junior high school, I really wanted a clean version of this without voice over announcing or audience applause, so I finally made my own version. It's based on the movie version where Jake & Elwood walk onstage. The tune is a speeded up "Can't Turn You Loose" by Otis Redding, combined with "Time is Tight" by Booker T & the Memphis Group. Former Stax Records guitarist Steve Cropper...

Clips from the Travel Channel documentary This Is Halloween where they used a couple of my costume photos, plus my onscreen thanks credit (when the whole screen goes aflame). One of the producers saw my Flickr Halloween collection. He picked one photo where I am Darth Vader, plus one where I am Ben Kenobi fighting Vader.

I watched and fell in love with the video of Hans Zimmer's orchestra onstage in Prague playing music from Christopher Nolan's Batman films, so I decided to try my own version of it in Garageband. I incorporated other sections of the soundtrack, particularly from "I Am Not a Hero."
Geisha drinking game: nuisance neighbor
Переглядів 48 тис.4 роки тому
One of the drinking games that is typical at a Kyoto ozashiki, featuring real geiko and maiko at a tea house. The player tries to guess how many fingers will be shown on the count of three. Each person can show one hand or none. If correct, the next player guesses. If wrong, the person sitting to the player's right must drink (beer or rice wine) The reason for the "nuisance" name is that if the...

I've always loved this Ashman/Menken duet from Little Shop, so I was very fortunate when my cousin Tom agreed to record this version (where I put in my own doo-wop backing vocals instead of the usual female trio), and he enlisted his friend, the awesome Ruthie Baker to handle Audrey's part. They nailed it. www.ruthiebaker.com www.tomglaser.info

Twelve is a Goddess compared to Most Nymphs in Mythology
Maiko /Geisha is very respected. They perform such beautiful dance movement. You cant compare the great beauty of a Geisha to a common Japanese woman, although Japanese women are beautiful, the Geisha are refined and elegant, a quality that is very rare.
With all the drinking games they wiuld have to go bathroom a lot? How would they do this I wonder when it takes a second person to dress them? It looks so uncomfortable and constricting alrhough beautiful.
Why not just destroy my body
Whats the title / japanese lyrics on the song that they sing whilst the penalty of drinking takes place?

I think there may be an error in translation regarding the fun handsome man (couldn't resist). From what Japanese internet tells me, that's the son of Beicho Katsura, a legendary rakugo actor - 桂米団治, Katsuro Yonedanji (Katsuro Kobeicho II at the time of writing). Since the original documentary is French, I think the uploader mistranslated "comédien", which actually means "actor" in English. Yonedanji-san is a famous rakugo actor himself - which explains why he's so familiar with the geisha and their games; they're part of the same world. Apparently he also likes piano, oil painting, ancient history and Mozart - who he says he's the reincarnation of. I am inclined to believe it :)

I absolutely adore geisha culture! Absolutely beautiful feminine and graceful ❤
I love how the Japanese culture does not follow the westernised beauty standards and remains to their own. The geisha world still relying on the beauty of small lips, the sneak peak of their shoulders and the health of their hair. Minor yet long lasting Japanese based, traditional beauty needs in a woman. Not the typical ‘revealing boobs, large lips and oversized booties’ westernised wants nowadays.
i wonder how old is this documentary, it is so decently filmed. Touched by the story and facts.
This video seems very dated to me so I didn’t enjoy it. However, I read an interesting book about geisha’s that I really enjoyed called “Geisha, a life” by Mineko Iwasaki, who was supposed to be the most celebrated geisha of her generation. I recommend reading that if you are interested in learning about geishas.
Just fyi this documentary is from 2002. Gion district has been devastated by the pandemic and they are slowly recovering but it’s nothing like its height back in 1930’s where around 1000 geisha/maiko trained and lived in Kyoto and not even close to how it was when this documentary was made.
What a fascinating culture, they are so beautiful these ladies, everything is so delicate I really enjoyed watching a look into the life of them
Thank you
This documentary, did the producer get permission from all the shown geishas to film them?
That's why I'm not wearing a bustle either. Lol xo
How do they not have beer bellies? If I was a geisha I’d be on the mad piss all day 😂
Those pillows?! Wow!! They look like really hurt.
It was a pretty good impression actually lol
Most important info. Geisha means artist. Not concubine or prostitute. And in 2024, because of how AWFUL humanity is, because of the bad behavior of a few, we can’t see these areas a tourists anymore. yay
I want a parasol like theirs.
white person crap. Lord I hope the attitude and understanding has changed in 2024. Note even 2 minutes in: the tone (so condescending), the complete lack of sensitivity and understanding. I remember once being dragged around with friends in Japan because they had this female, white North American university student who had come to Sanyo in Tokyo to witness/study the poverty and vulnerability of Japanese day-worker men. These men, in thousands tried to get work just for that day. At that time you had a monthly card that had to be stamped with days you worked and you had to work a certain amount to qualify to get any government benefits or just starve. I asked her why she needed to come all the way to Japan to see poverty when there was plenty in her own country. Being half Japanese my friends had asked me along to translate. I felt embarrassed for them, understanding their politeness to accommodate the white person and completely disgusted by the white American's ignorant racism.
Why do some have decorations in their hair and some do not?
Maiko are in training Geiko/Geisha. Geiko wear more decorative hairpins/hairstyles giving a more youthful look, Geisha wear less hair decorations for a more mature look, as for their kimonos, Geiko wear more patterned or colorful kimonos, and Geisha wear more simple colored and patterned kimonos. Also, Geisha are typically called Geiko in Kyoto and called Geisha everywhere else in Japan.
It's so sad for the Geisha, as such traditions are a wonderful thing and I pray that they know that at least I as a westerners will always think that something so magical and secret is still a wonder from GOD and something so special is mystical and spiritual also.🌺
Just girly things
I wonder if their kimonos ever fee hot while working. It’s a lot of layers
It may. However, the fabric and density of it change by seasons for them not to feel too hot or too cold.
