Congratulations on the presentation! You have literally allowed the amplifier to present itself as to what it can do, which is crucial for us when buying. Good job!
I got this for Christmas this last year and I love it. I am glad I waited and shopped around. There's so many different things you can do with this amp. It has a lot of sound for a practice amp.
Rob - EXCELLENT REVIEW !! I've done reviews of various guitar gear myself and I really enjoyed yours. You took your time (maybe just a little too long, difficult to ask the viewer for 18 minutes of their time) and explained all the features fully and your guitar playing was entertaining. I especially liked your honesty at the end sharing your views of what the amp is and what it isn't. AN FYI TO EVERYONE - At this writing if you really shop around, these have come way down in price. About $90.00 USD should get you a factory fresh NEW one delivered to your door.
I recently bought one of these and I am absolutely in love with it! I haven't touched a pedal since I got it. This would be an amazing box of tricks if you were just starting out and couldn't buy shedloads of gear. Unlike you I actually do think it is good for recording. I have got some great sounds DI and even better by micing it up (although it does require two very good mics to get anything near the super wide stereo you hear in front of it though) and I am impressed. Very good review in my opinion. If I hadn't already bought it I'd be sold.
In my favourite guitar shop the guys showed me this one, I was blown away. I have it, it's GREAT. No, it's not "low volume"! It's fukin savage! Love it EDIT: as our friend in the video said: IT REALLY DOES MATTER A LOT WHAT GUITAR YOU PLUG INTO IT!!! I have a Cort KX1Q with EMG-HZs so I have huge signal.
Thanks for the video. I read the manual and didn't understand the concept of the patches. They have to be made on the computer, and not a way to save to the amp. I just got the Beam, and the sound is hard to believe beautiful. I had thought about the Spark, but I can that it would lead to endless fiddling with all the computer options to make different amp combinations, pedals, etc. Spend practice time playing with a computer, and not practicing. Thanks for showing that noisegate, I found it by accident last night and thought that the amp was beginning to die. I believe that the Blackstar sounds quite a bit better than the Spark. There's a few Blacstar vs Spark, and you can actually tell it is much higher in audio quality. One thing that would have been nice would have been the ability to link it to another amplifier and cabinet. Dedicated output instead of the mini jack would have been useful. Lake to the Blackstar party. Glad I got it. I thought my playing was really bad on a $5 practice amp. At least now, I'm still hacking but sound a lot better.
Could you upload your presets to the online community? That would be awesome! Great review and very helpful, thank you. Loving every minute with my ID Core 20.
I own the original version ID Core stereo 40 which i bought a few years ago used for $100USD. It has all the same built in effects of it's line I plug in my Stellarcaster. An extremely modified Starcaster-Strat electric guitar By: Fender (said it on the head stock. the hand made custom extended brushed stainless steel pick guard is loaded with 3 quad rail/coil bumbuckers and wired like a 50's Les Paul with coil splits using 3 P/P 500k audio taper pots and another in the bridge and neck pick ups together regardless of other controls the other tone pots are 500k audio taper. retaining the Fender 5-way switch and the output jack in the pick guard as well behind the bridge which got a new full size trem block of solid brass and roller saddles. the body and headstock are painted with spray cans and airbrushed details in a stars and planets space theme. The head stock is graced with a titanium nut, roller string tree and locking tuners. strung with 9-46 stringgs and tuned to E-Flat standard like any good Strat should be. a good looking and very cool guitar that feels nice in the hand, plays and sounds out of this world. Wanna Play???
I know this is an old post but i have a question. Do you have to have a wifi/internet for the laptop to work with the amp, After you install the program
Hi iv got this amp and using the od2 and the clean bright with the footswitch but when i switch between the two the od2 volume is way up too loud and the clean is way too low when i try and edit the volume i can't i can edit everything else any ideas guys to fix this
Is it normal that the gain switch infleunces the volume ? If i don't have the gain up a bit it's not near as loud, infact, it does not give any sound if i don't ?!
To realy feel this amp, go test it,it sound amazing.I tested it without expecting too much but it instantly conquest my attention, fucking great amp and low coast.Great distortion, try to use a superoverdrive to total orgasm
I got this a few years ago 2nd hand which came with a guitar I wanted. Used a few times when learning something new from my desktop. My main amp recently broke so I resorted to the id:core. The 2 cleaner channels aren't too bad but all the crunch ones sound diabolical. How this guy is attaining the sounds in the demo I've no idea.
Many thanks for this review Rob! Been waiting for this one! For me, its a toss up between the Yamaha and this - I think the Blackstar Stereo will swing it for me and the price seems fantastic. Just to clarify - you can overwrite the 5 amp settings with your own right? So I could have 5 clean tones and no crunch? Is the stereo spread as impressive as the NAMM videos suggest? Thanks again!
Hmmm, interesting question, I have the amp next to me but no mini USB (don't ask, I have no idea how I DON'T have a mini USB with me!) but I'll investigate and get back to you. As for the stereo spread, I was genuinely blown away, it's huge and it's wider than the THR (i.e. you can be further away and it's just as effective). Cheers for watching :D
The THR10 is an amazing piece of kit, don't get me wrong, but for the money difference and the functionality benefits, the ID:Core is just too good to pass up.
Ooooo !It's got a bloody input do it !Wow,who would have thunk it!??I think all these companies got sold the same chinese/ Vietnamese bill of goods modeling wise
if you need a practice amp.... this is your answer 1. small 2. usb record for check how good you are ........ 3, all in one effect 4. headphone 5. plug n play n practice 6. easy Eq why we need a adjust bass mid treble when we just a practice no we don't need a any tone king at all , we need a easy n fast setup for lazy guitarist to practice good job blackstar 7. cheap I've got a id20 2nd hand with a good condition about 90$
+AftershockPS3 I have heard negative things about the tuner though, can you confirm this ?Also, is there the possibility to use the tuner on your pc with the software ?
+MrShadowofthewind tuner it's a secret function by press manual+tab it's no led screen for show up what note is it now but I do fine with that bc. I use everyday with no problem. And 2.) usb mode to pc has a tuner in blackstar program too
Just give me a 2 channel valve amp in a nice compact box. That has a beutiful clean tone and a quality gain amp. Add a quality spring reverb for the 250.00 AUD price range and im a very happy man. All these bloated solid state practice amps are a waist. They sound shite.
Congratulations on the presentation! You have literally allowed the amplifier to present itself as to what it can do, which is crucial for us when buying. Good job!
This IS what a review is supposed to be.
Very, Very good review. Far better than other ones i've watched. From this I bought an ID20 core and love it. Keep up the good work.
Yeah.. I bought this one too...but the difference is I'm watching this after buying.... lol 😅
And a Happy New Year ...!

Great demo of the amp I have lots to try now
Great review Rob. I assume this can be used with default settings and no laptop, correct?
Do you recommend this amp to play metal?
Something like Megadeth, Metalica, Iron Maiden
Sure, Blackstar handles overdrive very well.
Reminds me of Gallien-Krugers in the '80's. Except this is cheaper & still good.

Is it normal that the gain switch infleunces the volume ? If i don't have the gain up a bit it's not near as loud, infact, it does not give any sound if i don't ?!
Did you ever use let's say... a bass combo? It works that way.
Márk N. Mészáros Your saying it's normal ?
As far as I know, yes
To realy feel this amp, go test it,it sound amazing.I tested it without expecting too much but it instantly conquest my attention, fucking great amp and low coast.Great distortion, try to use a superoverdrive to total orgasm

www.blackstaramps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=4293

This is a stereo amp, maybe two mikes would have done the trick.... :)

Are you seriously saying that you would NEED a combo to give you a really good, working tuner? :D
With 6 different channels, how do you get the pedal to switch between clean warm and od1?
By setting it with the software as he showed in the video...
I can't use the amp without owning a macbook and downloading software? It has to be plugged in twice? Mp3 and USB? wtf?
Totes using it for recording anyways
this thing is to bloody loud for an apartment !!!
Nice... but it still doesn't beat the original Micro Cube.
12:35 Awwwwww Yieeeaaaahhhh face
