My parents remember the original Penn Station from when they were children. They said that it was even more beautiful than Grand Central.

Nashville had Union Station downtown and instead of tearing it down it became a beautiful Hotel in the 80s which ended up bankrupt and then got bought and opened again. I remember my grandpa going to conventions out of town on the trains when I was very small, before he retired. The last time I was inside before it was closed in the 70s, I remember how sad it had become but how huge it still felt inside even though I was much larger. The train shed was the largest one anywhere but it was destroyed, sadly in a fire. They are in the middle of renovating the Hotel again. I am so glad they preserved so much of the beauty that was the original building. (Ya' know you're old when...) When Covid is over maybe I will go spend a weekend there, much more interesting and real historic grandeur compared to the Opryland Hotel. Thank you for this, it brought up some lovely memories.
