- AKA "Sixty Minutes to Kill." Thanks, UA-cam (and Perry Amberson) for giving me back this piece of my youth! I still have an audio cassette I recorded of this show in 1977. Then, I was just a Martin Mull fan, but now I like Flo & Eddie, too!

RIP: My Friend Martin Mull, You Will Indeed Be Missed!
In the late 1970s, I was a student at Drew University. Imagine everyone's shock when Flo and Eddie waltzed into the cafeteria one lunchtime. They did a mini concert, including "Kama Sutra Time." In the cafeteria. At a school with a seminary. It was the most surreal experience of my life. Of course the room went wild!
Hearing about the passing of Martin Mull I started looking at his videos and what a fabulous rabbit hole I fell into! What an incredibly talented man he was. I hope he had as much fun as he made us feel, from the first time I saw him on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman on....
RIP Martin Mull. He was hilarious. I never saw this special until now. Also a big fan of Flo & Eddie AKA The Turtles. Hang in there, Howard...I'm not sure how long he's got.
I was there! About the funniest night of my life. I went for Mull but Flo & Eddie stole the show with their Joni Mitchell -Led Zeppelin medley. I’ve been looking for this for years. Holy crap, that’s me at 9:05 standing up behind Wolfman, er, Mailman Jack.
Haha! That’s SO cool!
Blue shirt and white pants? WoW! Is this 1976? The clothes styles looks like it IS! I remember watching Fernwood 2-Nite back in the day in Vancouver right across from Robson Park on Carolina st.! I had just bought a new 20" Toshiba TV to watch the 1976 Canada Cup!
That's so cool
So Cool . The Turtles.:) QC
I attended a Soundstage downbeat jazz show in Chicago in 1976 and remember they taped *all afternoon* and there were several wonderful songs that didn't make it on the show. So my question is -- do you recall anything from that day that isn't in this broadcast? I'd love to hear any anecdotes. This is one of my very favorite shows and that's amazing that you were there.
"She was outta sight but there was no way to tell her." One of my all-time favorite Martin Mull lines.
OMG thanks for this...great songs by Martin Mull. RIP.
I could not believe Greg Hawkes later with the CARS was on Sax. Fantastic. BTW I am a Huge Flo and Eddie fan!!
Me too.
@@tomcooley3778 Coo!
Thanks, l wasn't if that was Greg Hawkes it sure looks like him!
Still holds up. Martin is so dynamic, and Flo and Eddie's Elenore performance was perfect. Loved the cereal ad too, what the hell.
God, I miss the 70s.
It was fun from what I can remember. Hey ya got any acid?
weird and wonderful! Its strange that Eddie was waxing nostalgic for the sixties while in the 70's lol but he's right the music changed so much since his days as the lead singer of the Turtles.
My first Flo & Eddie experience was when they opened for David Ziggy Stardust Bowie at Winterland (San Francisco) in 1972. It was a Halloween weekend concert, and Bowie was not well known then. I was there to see Flo & Eddie - I had seen them with The Mothers before. By the time I left, part way through Bowie's show there were maybe 200 people there - in a hall that holds many thousands. He was pissed off!
I saw this (only once) on PBS Channel 12 (WYES) out of New Orleans as a kid and have sarched for it ever since! Couldn't remember the name of the show, only that it featured Flo & Eddie! I totally forgot that it was my introduction to Martin Mull, too! For years I tried to recall where I had seen the Sweet Steaks" Lucky Charms parody. In my mind, and perhaps it was later edited out, but I'd remember a huge "SPLAT!" sound (that sounded more like a shart) when the kid flattened the mascot. Thanks so much for posting such a a great memory of youth, and such a clear copy, too! RIP Martin, you were loved and adored!
I loved going to Bun 'N Run when I was a kid. Sometimes Happy Kyne would be there, at the the register or working the grill. RIP, Martin. You were wonderful and one of a kind.
"It's a fine line between Joni and Yoko Ono." No truer words...
OMG...Share this a Jillion times..It's Christmas eve 2020. Boy do we ever need this!
PBS has certainly changed in 45 years
So has the music business.
@@ChrisMaxfieldActs the American studio audience has undergone some big changes as well.
I think the funniest thing I have ever heard was by Martin Mull interviewed by Norm McDonald about 10 years ago. MM told a joke so utterly scabrous I nearly fell on the floor laughing.
Bravo! Bravo!😃
Flo and Eddie, knew them from Zappa, but also always knew that those were the guys of the Turtles.
Also backup vocals for Marc Bolan and T Rex.
@@williamwoody7607 yes.
This is absolutely perfect !
Watched this so many times back then. Thanks for putting it on. Wow what great memories!!!
Martin Mull Live at the Roxy really impressed me i gotta look for it here on UA-cam.
How did I not know Martin Mull played guitar? This is awesome
He's multi-talented: fine artist/illustrator, singer/songwriter/guitarist, television writer, and actor.

Thanks for posting. Like
And now he's gone.
It would be awesome if tape of the stereo simulcast could be synced to this
Happy Kine for President '24...If he's still around. 😵💫
I think Howard Kaylan was the best pure vocalist of bands in the 60s. If you watch videos of the Turtles on the Ed Sullivan show there was no lip syncing, it was live vocals, and he was incredible!
Greg Hawkes later joined the Cars
The algos ignored my repeated Fernwood Tonight data and never showed me this. I've never seen it. Found it by clicking on Flo & Eddie interviewing Zappa.
I’ve never seen Martin Mull play guitar before!
In the early '70s I saw him at the school I attended. He played guitar as part of his "Living Room" Tour. The second act was Commander Cody (RIP). Mull played along with the band.
I knew he did airbrush paintings, but I missed the music thing.
Flo and Eddy did weirdly excellent backup vocals for T Rex.
"Licks Off Of Records" with a "Turn On Your Lovelight" horn backing?!? nice!!
Hey Mart -o!I I finally sold that couch you left in my yard. I had no idea you were leaving.I hope that creator will let you rest in peace for christs sake. You were right that chick Marylin wasn't the marrying kind.We miss you and your talent down here!
Howard and Mark always brought it
Martin Mull and His Talking Furniture
No way. Greg Hawkes from the Cars on saxophone.
This is great. Only saw Flo & Eddie once at My Father's Place in Roslyn NY. They were doing a Who theme with covers... ET Limbo... And a bunch of their amazing music. One of the top concerts I ever went to. Better than Zappa, and I'm a big Zappa fan.
Greg Hawkes on sax before The Cars. 😎
I have searched FOR YEARS for the fake cereal commercial that appears at the beginning of this show.
Somehow in the weird world of the internet, I found it today by accident.
I thought it had to be from early SNL, but I was floored to find it here when I went poking around for a little fun time with Flo and Eddie.
My memory of it was a bit off on some of the details, but I remembered the Troll of the Bowl and the "sugar-coated, sugar fortified little bits of sugar" line. The entire show surrounding the cereal commercial had dissolved in my memory, but I clearly remembered the kid flattening the troll on the breakfast table. Mystery solved, thanks to Flo & Eddie!
The SNL one was for "Quarry".
LOL ,he leaves us with a tune we can,t remember what the song was frame 23:23 to 25:02 he sings orderve .what the hell is the name of that song he sings lol ANYBODY? HELP . REST IN PEACE MARTIN MULL
Flo & Eddies Moving Targets lp
Alot going on behind the scenes at this time ....read Howard Kaylan's book (pgs 201-202). Makes intro at 39:59 more ironic.
Honest to God Martin, where do you get those crazy ideas?
Who's the fellow on the Travis Bean guitar?
the tragically hip are excused
Do the Nothing!
What’s that second funky song?
Good question. It's dance track "Do the Dog" from DAYS OF WINE AND NEUROSES, and the mailman outfit supports that.
before Tim and Eric 23:03
Thanks. Loved it. Who was Wolfman Jack?
Are you (like me) an old Boomer being sarcastic or are you younger and asking seriously? Just curious.
@@haroldkrishna4116 Yes, I'm an old fart :) I never saw this show but have now watched all the YT videos. I think I was probably asking who was playing the part of Wolfman Jack. Happy Holidays, Harold.
You too!@@SoItGoesCAL34
I heard Mull plays a guitar but didn't know he's a picker
It's Barth Gimble
And not his twin brother, Garth.
@@ChrisMaxfieldActs If memory serves,Garth had passed by the time Barth fled to Ohio to avoid charges of payola and assaulting a cheerleader.
@@jimcampbell8061 Yes, Garth was impaled on an aluminum Christmas tree.
@@ChrisMaxfieldActs My favorite was Tom Waits..The line re the Bun and Run as "$1.98 for all you can stand" I still use today for some places.
Close, but that's ACTUALLY his twin bro Garth!!! :P
Martin Mull was not a great musician but he was an excellent entertainer. Flo and Eddie were great musicians and entertainers. This vid is most entertaining.
Martin Mull was a good guitar player and singer, and an excellent songwriter and wordsmith.
this. some love for fernwood tonite also.
@@philsaggitariusa3738 And the later America Tonite.
@@philsaggitariusa3738 It was SO funny, and Gerry made a good straight-man for MM!
Not a great musician?

Martin Mull, king of false modesty...
Is that Coke on his stash.
I think it's just a blond mustache, but it was 1976. so anything is possible.
I heard that Martin Mull plugged into any socket. Could be wrong.
He joked about that sexual behavior in his music often enough. Not just satire? Who knows? And honestly, who cares?
