Foil Assist always to give way as you said! Communication, Education and Respect are all so important in a happy lineup, or, you take your own priority by finding a wave where there is no one else, even better!
Came in expecting to be outraged...Left agreeing with nearly every word! Laughing at the thought of a foil Driver mid face debating "I swear I pumped all the way to this wave!"
I have found an error in the final priority list. Now it might just be a Sydney thing, but you left off "clubbies" they get priority over everybody, preferably the first set after paddling past the lineup, 20 at a time, aiming directly at you, losing the leashless board to torpedo at you is also optional... 😂
I like your thinking. Maritime Collision Regulations (ColRegs) say as a general rule powered gives way to unpowered. So generally in line with that. Also ColRegs say with in each category who gives way based on direction of travel or wind (if kite or wing).
A-F-ing-men Dave!!! THANK YOU. My only thoughts are that I’d put tow boogie further down, definitely not above wing. It’s powered, and it’s probably a bigger risk for other water users than the other modes (always user dependant of course). And, the general concept should be easiest to get the most gives way right? So if a prone foiler can pump for hours and catch millions of waves in one ride, they should probably be yielding (generally) to SUP foil. I don’t see many SUP foilers doing multiple laps.
@@ceilhehalpin5106 yeah ability of rider makes everything really complicated. I can pump around longer on prone then I can SUP - but I can get up easier on the SUP.
Would be good if there was some sort of widely known hand signal that basically encourages someone to go for a wave... Most surfers dont seems to have a problem dropping in on me after Ive pumped back to link a second wave or more, which is fair and my que to peel off. A lot of beginner surfers and proners wont though, theyll just look down the line and pull back at the take off I guess because they assume they dont have priority. Hard to communicate they should go for the wave if they want it when your 10m or more out on the shoulder
I totally agree. We need to educate surfers that they can go when we're oout on the shoulder. I had surfer recently throw his hands up in the air when a wave came past that he wanted. So I came down and swam over to him and told him he can take any wave he wants.

@@grantbilyard1195 true. Tricky one but I sort of clump all non foils together. But anyone with a paddle has a catching advantage so maybe not. Like kayakers.

@@Hdip This is where the problems are.....and the joy. But also - You can't surf the wave if there wave if there are surfers around anyway. I dont even foil. But this is triggering me as a surf/longboarder. Foilers dont bother me as much as the the old farts bogarting all the waves on a SUP.
Tow boogie shouldn’t even be in the list. Running an unmanned boat around a lineup with other people is crazy. Awesome tool, but for solo lineups or only with mates.
@@davewestfoils Are you saying it’s ok if foildrivers get hit by a rogue self driving boogie? 🤣🤣 The only caveat to Boogie & Tow is the FD team can’t offer you a chip, but at least the Boogie and JetSki crew can buy forgiveness by offering the prone riders a few chips 👌
you can tow into a wave leaving the boogie out the back miles away from any other water users and then in the process of riding the wave come into priority issues with other surfers. After your wave you pump back to the boogie and start again. At no point does it drive around the lineup unmanned, if your a responsible operator
Priority should be given to me at all times that’s a no brainer mate
