I have a 2012 MK 6 w/ 130k miles. I went stage 1 at 30k and k04 at 70k. I replaced my PCV at like 110k as preventative maintenance, but I've never had an issue w/ the stock setup. I'd do a catch can if I was going to rebuild the engine.
I am really curious why the oil was so milky? That makes me think you have an issue elsewhere. Then again, who knows with these engines. I got 300k on a ccta engine and slowly rebuilding it one part at a time.

same. fbo tuned mk6 gti. owned since 2014 and never needed a catch can. i’d add if i rebuild like you mentioned
that's not really a check valve... its a dip stick on your oil catch can ;)
