  • Welcome! Todays topic will be all about redkens demi permeant lines redken shades eq cream and shades eq cover plus. I get a lot of questions on how to use each line and when to use it. I have the swatch book for this line so I will be going over each line and color family and throw out a few pointers of when to use each. if you buy between 9-18+ shades eq colors you can get a free color kit that includes a shade chart.
    here is a quick summary:
    Shades Eq cream Acidic color-
    gives a deeper deposit of color but alot of shine
    can blend gray
    use with 10vol devloper
    process up to 30min
    can be used to lowlight, refresh, or enhance
    Shades eq cover plus-
    mild alkeline demi permeant color
    up to 1-1 1/2 levels of lift
    use with 10vol or 20vol
    covers up to 75% of gray hair
    process for 30min (some do 45)
    great for bumping the base, low-lighting, subtle hi lights, or evening out hair color

    Does the shades eq cream & cover plus work for root melting or shadowing?

    Hi, I used 5gb over a highlight and it turned almost black, what would you recommend to pull the color out? Also will it pull out?

    Very informative video, I am a nurse but would like to be a stylist in my next life. Shades EQ is what my stylist uses on my hair (6BC) I'm starting to grey in the front and in the hairline. Trying to decide if I should take a shot at this at home, since our salons are still not open due to the pandemic. Hmmmmmm?!

      thank you!!!! :) And thank you for your servcie, you nurses do so much and in hard times its easy to burn out. I say go for it!!! With this color it is pretty much fool proof and wont harm your hair. I teach and we have had nurses that retire either get a cosmetology or skin care license because they love the creativity and the science behind it. If your using the shades eq liquid you need the processing solution. If they use the shades eq cream you ned 10vol developer.

    Vincent, looking at your brows, what would your shade be in SHADES EQ cream, if you were going to your natural? I’m dark brown never, ever a four. Love golden tones, hints of red, honey.

    Hello! I love how informative your videos are. I recently dyed my hair burgundy red, stylist used 5RV I believe but it didn’t come out as red violet as I wanted it too. And since my hair was very dark and we used no bleach it came out a little patchy? Some parts underneath are still very dark. Can I do this at home? Use maybe use a 05RV or a 6RR? I just want a boost of red

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  3 роки тому

      thank you!!! Thats always the biggest complaint with the RVs because when not lifted enough its just a hint of the violet. I would say you need a stronger devloper so like a 30. I would say try doing yours with mixing 5Rv and 6RR or a 6RV. Another great shade is 5Vr because it comes out more like a burgundy

      @@VincentBalducci would you use the color gels line to redo the hair like how this comment was describing? I have the exact same issue as her but I’m not sure if I should use a permanent 6rr for my mids and ends again or if I should use permanent only on zone 1 and use 6rr cover plus on the mids and ends?

    When you use the shades eq cover plus (mocha) with 10 developer- do you need to use foils? Since it’s not bleach -just darkening greys, seems like it can just be brushed on and then rinsed off...

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  3 роки тому

      Excellent question! You may use foils or free paint using a makeup brush. Personally I do foils just to avoid the product from causing a blotting mark on the other hairs. If you are doing an all over color Just brush on and process.

    I’ve used shades eq for 25 years but haven’t dived into the cream. My client is transitioning to her natural grey hair and I’ve been using 07nb and it’s just too translucent. I notice there is no nb series in cream so for grey blending what do u recommend?

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  3 роки тому

      That is so cool! Shades eq was always ground breaking. I would say that the next step is to transition to shades eq cream. One of the issues with cream is that redken has not added to the shade line and educators never use it. I would recommend trying the 7WN in shades eq cream (Chi Tea). The shade will be slightly deeper compared to the shades eq. All regular creams are mixed with 10vol and processed for 20-25min (can do longer for a deeper color)

    I have a question about the Redken Shades EQ Gloss Processing Solution. Is it ok to use this processing Solution with other brands of Demi also?

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  3 роки тому +1

      Excellent questions. You may use this processing solution with other brands because devloper is all the same. The only difference is that some manufactures add special thickeners that only work with their activator, so if you do use a color bottle to apply.

    Hi
    Can you tell me what the difference is between Redken shades eq 4n and 4nn is please?
    Thank you.

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  2 роки тому +1

      Excellent question oli! You are asking some great ones! Ill be honest, anything that is NN is really just a shade darker. a 4NN is really just a 3N in a bottle. Stylists have bought into this and I personally don't carry NN shades because its a waste of money.

    Can the cream be used when lightening hair?

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  4 роки тому

      Joanna Allen excellent question! So yes the shades we cover plus is more alkaline and when mixed with 20vol can provide 1 to 1 1/2 levels of lift. You can use it to bump the base or to foil for very natural hi lights

  • @meghanatha4502
    @meghanatha4502 4 роки тому +1

    Why is it not recommended to mix these two lines together? I can’t find an answer on google. Lol

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  4 роки тому +2

      Meghan Atha excellent question! So the reason is because of the difference in ph. With redken shades eq cream the ph is more acidic and will not lift hair. With shades eq cover plus this is an alkaline Demi color that is capable of producing 1-2 shades of lift. If you mix you would dilute the ph leading to unpredictable lift or not enough coverage for gray. Also the cover plus is able to be mixed with 10, 20vol

    Can I use 5G to cover previous balayage ? And will it cover? Sorry I’m new to redken she wants to go back to her natural

    • @VincentBalducci
      @VincentBalducci  3 роки тому

      great question! On a baylage I would say a 5G would work well. You may need to add a bit of neutral to balance it out. Porous hair needs warmth and the G series provides much needed warmth to prevent the hair from turning muddy.
