  • What is PINOT NOIR - Everything you need to know about this popular grape
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety. The name is derived from the French words for pine and black. The word pine alludes to the grape variety having tightly clustered, pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit.
Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, mostly in the cooler climates, and the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. Pinot noir is now used to make red wines around the world, as well as Champagne, and such sparkling white wines as the English sparkling wines. Regions that have gained a reputation for red Pinot noir wines include: the Willamette Valley of Oregon, the Carneros, Central Coast, Sonoma Coast and Russian River AVAs of California, the Elgin and Walker Bay wine regions of South Africa, Mornington Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Great Southern, Tasmania and Yarra Valley in Australia and the Central Otago, Martinborough and Marlborough wine regions of New Zealand. Pinot noir is the most-planted varietal (38%) used in sparkling wine production in Champagne and other wine region

Dude you spent nearly 7 minutes describing pinot noir (very well), but then tasted a pinot noir early - which is known as pinot precoce (there should be an accent in there). Pinot in Germany is called spatburgunder ("late Burgundy"), and what you have here is fruhburgunder ("early Burgundy"). Similar, but different, and not what you'd find in Burgundy.

Great Video as usual. had a look on the website for that wine and it's sold out but will most certainly keep an eye out and most likely order others from there. Loving English wines.

Great video! Very informative! I would like to recommend Alamos Pinot Noir "Wines of the Mountain" from Mendoz, Argentina. I am from Uruguay but I must admit they have better expressions of Pinot Noir.

My favorite Pinot Noir is Slander by Orin Swift; I also LOVE Cherry Pie by Stanley Ranch. I do need to try more French Pinot Noir.

Hey man, don't know if you need any ideas for videos but things I'd like to watch (not saying that you are not currently doing) is videos on areas, countries, regions, geographical indicators, interesting methods of production and maybe a section where you buy in some popular wines - taste them and compare to other peoples notes from Vivino (for example) whilst giving us back stories on certain wines during certain years.

just wondering about your reference to Beaujolais nouveau, are you referring to a pinot comparison between palate weight and refreshing acidity?
    obviously different grapes though? @theGrapeExplorer

Love PN. Have had some amazing ones from Tasmania recently. NY ones from the Finger Lakes tend towards that bright, pale style too. Not as much of a fan of the overdone CA ones....great vid! A toZ....how about a Roussanne?
