  • The A-Z of Wine is taking a look at Tempranillo.
Tempranillo (also known as Ull de Llebre, Cencibel, Tinto Fino and Tinta del Pais in Spain, Aragonez or Tinta Roriz in Portugal, and several other synonyms elsewhere) is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines in its native Spain. Its name is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano ("early"), a reference to the fact that it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes. Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements. It is the main grape used in Rioja, and is often referred to as Spain's noble grape. The grape has been planted throughout the globe's wine regions.

This grape is excellent! My favorite wine at the moment is mostly tempranillo, and costs about 9$ I would love to see you review Puerta de Plata Reserva 2013... Its 60% tempranillo 40% grenache. This wine comes from Catalunya and has never disappointed me! Cheers and stay healthy!

I'm new to red wines. New to wines, period. Been a beer drinker most of my life. Now in my mid 40s, I've recently started exploring different wines, and started learning about the different varietals - and what tastes good to my palate. Just bought my first Tempranillo, and it just hits home for me. This video was very helpful in learning about my new favorite wine. Thank you!

That was helpful - Tempranillo must be one of the most versatile grapes through ageing & oak influence - I'd be interested to know how bottle ageing develops flavours esp with Reserva/Grand Reservas 🤔

I am loving some of the Rioja's I have tried. The Fabelist, out of Santa Barbara also makes a fine Tempranillo.

Question 6:06 ABV Alcohol content! How many % percentage? Otherwise, excellent educational Tempranillo content. Thanks. Here in tropical Bangkok, Thailand "T" is the underdog, unfortunately. Upscale supermarkets maybe you'll find some Spanish wines. Otherwise, all New World here. Australian and Chile. It's about the price! Especially Australia, due to import duties (trade agreements). Thailand produces also it's own wine in the highlands of Khao Yai three hours from BKK. Here is one of the vineyards. PB Valley ua-cam.com/video/5IJR9ooqlxg/v-deo.html
