I’m a beginner and after some heavy research I decided to go with perlite for my very first attempt at propagating. I’m a week in so still not sure how it’s going to work, but after seeing this video and several others I am feeling good about my decision!
I haven’t yet tried moss but I loveeee perlite as I think it’s quicker than water when I’ve tried it with my different strings of and Hoya etc. I also grow all my plants in semi hydro (pon from soil ninja) and think the transition is easier from perlite to semi hydro in self watering pots. Loved your experiment ❤. I will have to get moss a try. Though I worry the roots would stick to the moss and when I transition them, the remaining moss may cause rot. It would be great to know which of them transitioned well post rooting. Just an idea :). Thank you so much.
Glad I found your video. Moss seems to work great for me as far as getting roots, but which one works the best after it's potted? Do you have a update on these guys?
I never know how to navigate sphagnum moss...I never know if it’s just moss sticking to the plant or if they’re actual roots!! And I know you’re not supposed to disturb it a lot so I don’t wanna be pulling everything off (risking breaking new roots), but I also wanna know what parts are actual roots so I can see their progress!! Any tips?
Haha I feel that!! I think it’s fine to keep some stuck on the roots, also the moss usually pulls off relatively easily, I guess that’s a way to tell if it’s a root or not!
I do feel there's one more additional propagation u may have missed. "Air propagation". With moistened moss wrapped around the roots with plastic wrap, this also provides a quick rooting system before cutting it away from the parent plant...
A lot of other videos I watched have said to add a little at the bottom of the cup, if there’s no drainage, if there’s holes just spray and let it get wet and soak up water😊
Hey. Wanted to know if anyone has experience with mixing perlite and sphagnum moss?? There are so many videos of one or the other and not with a mix of the two… any ideas? I’m asking for a baby albo with about an inch of root already
Every couple days I check them to see if they’re heavy or light, the dirt dries faster than the perlite. I’d say I water the dirt once a week and the perlite every couple weeks
Sprooted has me rolling 🤣
Can we get more editing Tate? She’s the bomb love when she chimes in!
Hahaha she’s a grump but I’ll include her more lol

Personly i put perlite on the bottom of my prop box and then sphagnum Moss, it even regrows the moss, it works greatly 😉
How much moisture and water usually stays in this sort of mixture?
@@relaxbuddy8709 none it's moist but not wet

The white dots are sprouting roots.

Apparently when you take it from perlite and leave a bit perlite in new pot plant is not that stressed
Very nice experiment and great presentation!
Wow what a great experiment especially for me as a beginner to propagating. Ty
Just wondering do you fertilize propagation in perlite? If so how often?
Love the mini monstera plant! On the hunt for cuttings.
Thank you for the experiment & sharing this. Will try this! Have a good week!
cute doggo at 1:35
Omg your such a beautiful red head you go gurl! Thanks for this video

Thanks for doing this experiment. This us exactly what i was looking for.

Have you tried perlite, vermiculite and leca?
I genuinely hope Tate is having an amazing summer but I am missing on her.
So cute little hanging plants on the background!!!
Thank you!! I love them so much!
Green isn’t mold, it’s just Algee and it’s not harmful to the plant
oh awesome thanks so much for the info!
No water at the bottom for perlite? Never seen it done this way. Would need to water every day...
That’s really what stops me from starting my own channel but I’ll eventually figure it out
It would really help us beginners if you could put details in the descriptions - thank you I find you very knowledgeable
I will do that going forward! Thanks for watching!
How often do you add water to the perlite or moss?
A lot of other videos I watched have said to add a little at the bottom of the cup, if there’s no drainage, if there’s holes just spray and let it get wet and soak up water😊
I know this is so old but do you wet the perlite after putting props in?
I really love this video so educational
Aw yay I’m glad!!
Editing Tate is funny. Lol. Nice and informative video. 😃🌱
hehe thx she's so helpful isnt she
Thanks!

I've done exactly the same thing with a baby Thai. Fingers crossed it will work!
greetings, would be interesting if youd also try sand
Cool vid!
I wonder what the white dots are on the water propagation
Apparently those are stimulated spots where new roots will grow! I had never seen them before
Is there a drainage on ur perlite pot? Po
Can you make a video experiment about Soil w/ Perlite vs Soil w/ no perlite? I want to see the difference 😁
Oooo that’s a great idea I’ll think about it!
It will rott. Soil with low perlite causes rott.
@@sararafiq5557 nvm im using now a pumice
Thanks it was very helpful..
FYI; that’s not mold on the perlite hun, it’s algae!!!
How often did you water your soil and perlite props??

@@TatesPlants thank you!!!
I wish I was so pretty with perfect teeth!
Perlite wins!!!!!
Why would anyone "like" before watching?
To support a youtubers channel! You don’t have to, that’s why I say just consider it! Thanks for watching ☺️
@@TatesPlants I understand that, but it makes no sense to say you like something before you watch it.
@@BReno-mm3if Yeah, I know it's extremely common. It still makes no sense to say you like something before you even know what it is.
