    😞😞ALOHA! Ummm, sorry to the TMV fans - I had NO IDEA that this was a multi-part experience. I just click on a link and go and I didn't know what kind of rabbit hole with the following tracks as it seemed to go on for about 5 more parts. My apologies. Just means that there's more to come. Have a killer weekend!! AWWWRIGHT!!

      Their first two albums are journeys. Each track leads into the next, but particularly the 2nd half of this album. A lot of the themes in this track are re-visted later in the album.
      You owe it to yourself to listen to either of the first 2 albums from start to finish in your headphones. If that became an album reaction vid that's be cool, but do it anyway!
      Also, check out some of their early live videos, unbelievable live act!

      Making a collection of odd sounds and weird lyrics does not equal being "the greatest of all time". To every one his own.

      @Gannoh 2 роки тому +4

      @@Scirzo Could say the same about bands like Tool. The inventiveness of the band is nothing to scoff at, Frances the Mute is a very experimental and understandably kind of hard to listen to, but their more digestable albums have just as much complexity to their riffs and lyricism.
      Just look at Tetragrammaton or Day of Baphomets off of Amputechture.

    This song makes me feel so incompetent as a musician. They play in and out of the keys of Em and Dm back and forth with such easy, changing the tonal center from E to D with such grace. The crazy part is that through all of this chaos, it’s all intentional and written masterfully. I had the thought I will never be able to write something to this caliber. I sound like I’m swooning which I probably am but it’s just humbling that I’m nowhere near the people I look up to.

    Frances The Mute is one of those albums you have to listen to in its entirety from track 1. There are sections that make a recurrence later. Large songs are broken into multiple, smaller tracks. It's my favorite Mars Volta albums. "Miranda that ghost just isn't holy anymore" is so good. "The Widow" was the single. Still. Here.

    Love it! 15 years back or so when I was in my mid-twenties and frequented bars and pubs more often, they had started getting those Itunes Jukeboxes where you could put in $1 and pick any song to download off the library. My friends and I used to enjoy what we called "Jukebox Terrorism" where we would pick our favorite rock, prog, and metal tracks and completely change the vibe since most people were choosing more popular Top 40 stuff. When I saw all 30 minutes of Cassandra Gemini were counted as 1 track for $1, it became a staple in my rotation. Between that and Porcupine Tree's Anesthetize, I had that music locked down for an hour for $2!

I'm not gonna lie...at least a couple times I can remember, the staff themselves would get irritated and just disable the jukebox right in the middle of our songs in favor of whatever their basic rotation was. Cassandra Gemini would cut off during some avant garde section 20 minutes in, and here comes Sweet Caroline for the 1000th time...oh well, it was only $1!

    One thing that makes this album really special is that Omar wrote all of the parts and then got each musician to practice and record separately without being allowed to hear what everyone else would be playing. Every band member was encouraged to play their own part like it was a solo piece and improvise as much as they wanted, so that's why it sounds so complex and explosive when put together.

    G'day Geebz. Before I watch this video I wanted you to know that I have been using your "Decomposer" Reactions and Dissections to educate my Guitar/Music Production class. I am an Alternate High School teacher in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Many of our students have various challenges in their lives that most youth don't experience, from extreme social anxiety to drug and alcohol abuse to broken or abusive homes to various other challenges. These kids have faced obstacles that most of us could not fathom. Our music course is designed as a safe place for them to connect with other students and either nurture their musical interests or cultivate them from scratch. Your positive outlook and infectious attitude have served as a wonderful supplemental tool for engaging these kids. So for that, I thank you. Also, as someone who listens to your videos for my own personal fascination, I must also thank you greatly for that as well. You are making a difference. It's important that you are aware of this.

Can be an absolute joy to dive into if your in the mood for their particular brand of geinus-crazy, but they can be pretty damn anxiety provoking in the wrong headspace. The upside is that it's impossible to listen to a TMV track too many times... there's always more to hear.

    Still Here!
    Dude I feel like we're on the same wavelength most of the time, every one of my suggestions seems be straight up your alley and I love what your breakdowns are adding to my favorite songs.
    Yes, this is a 32 minute track, no I'm not mad you didn't do the whole thing, but you should definitely do the whole thing yourself and report back on your experience (or maybe a part 2 video...).
    The Mars Volta are indeed nuts, but they stay in a tasteful pocket.
    And, not to be a broken record but just to point out some similarities, there are many of the same elements of experimentation in Godspeed You! Black Emperor (but try to do the whole song, they're not broken down into suites as much).
