I love that you include your mistakes and how you adjust for them. I'm always terrified of messing up when I make something for the first time, so seeing you make a mistake and just going, "But that's alright, we can fix it by doing this," or "This might happen, but don't worry about it too much" makes me feel like it's actually possible for me to make these. I mean, I typically don't make the recipes, because you're entirely right about preferring no effort even over a little effort. But it's nice to actually feel like making it myself is a possibility. (And hey, this recipe looks simple enough that I might _actually_ give it a shot next time I have ice cream!)
I've used that recipe for years. While hot, they can also be draped over a small ramekin to make a bowl for ice cream or mousse. Thanks Chef John. Super easy to make and taste great.
This is so easy! Thank you Chef John for simplifying even the most difficult recipes! All of my friends think I'm Amazing all of a sudden at cooking and want to know where I learned!
*"We're gonna make these, because years from now, no one is gonna sit around reminiscing about the time you went to the store to buy these"* Well now that it is 3 years later and most people are in quarantine...
I do not have a silicone mat , so I tried both aluminum foil and parchment paper. Didn't work, stick on aluminum foil and the parchment paper was wrinkled. So I use the same recipe but use a nonstick pan, a little thicker than the video shown but still work fine! Remember to flip it over so it can cook the other side too. Just a FYI
I made waffle cones at Häagan Däs summer after high school and a protip is to fold the bottom edge up a quarter inch or so and insert the mold form into the little pocket it makes as you roll to form an ice cream drip proof bottom to the cone.
Michael Merritt I worked at Cold Stone in HS. I concur with your tip! Making cones was very therapeutic on a slow day; better than washing ice cream pans! Smelling like waffle cones after a shift was also a bonus ;)
We're a little past the ice cream cone stage in our house, but you can use this to make bowls just as easily. Just drape them over a small upside down bowl or a short wide drinking glass while they cool. You can make some really interesting shapes and guests are always impressed. I do this with lace cookies sometimes.
"LIfe is too short for regrets" I didn't expect to that to hit me so hard this morning. Thanks Chef John! I came here for the cones, but I think that is going to stick with me for a long time.
I want you to know that you're a success. I watch pretty much all of your videos bc I like them for the humor and cool shots and your expert advice, not necessarily because I plan on making the recipe. I eat ice cream maybe twice a year and here I am watching this lol You're doing something right! Keep it up!
Hi, this is Chef John... not.. but I know that wasn't the real Chef John doing this video. There was no cayenne pepper anywhere. Hurumph you imposter. LOL, loved it as always.
thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe, all ingredients are straightforward and simple and doesnt promote any store bought equipment. I really love such methods of cooking, as nowadays too many cooking shows and videos utilize too much equipment and it seems that it is near impossible to create good looking and tasty food anymore
I’ve made more of your recipes, than any other single source! It’s amazing how you release new videos and recipes that I was considering or craving lol.
Dear FW I made these and o my goodness they are amazing I was a little late to the game but I sooo thank you,I didn’t make cones I just left them flat and made like sandwiches they were amazing again much thanks
This is the best vid of ice cream , at first I was bothered its long but your commentary kept me hypnotized . you explained with every detail possible. Man you made some finest home made cones in the world! Kudos
I've been waiting for this. Can I guess the pun? "You are the Al Capone of your ice cream cone." "You are the Don King of what goes under your ice cream."
Just watched another channel where she made homemade soft serve in vanilla and chocolate. Haven't checked to see if you have that. Anyway my 93 yr old mom is about to be served what she has been mentioning ( aka hinting )😄 . She loves sugar cones ! THANK YOU!👍🏻😃
I did this recipe and it tastes AMAZING! I could not believe it, I thought it would taste weird o lack some flavor, but it didn’t. Just like a waffle cone. I did 2 things different: 1) Use heavy cream instead whole milk (just because I had some left in the refrigerator) 2) I did it in a pan (in the stove) just like a crepe. But with the recommendations he gave in the video
chef john thanks I am def gonna try this for my sis party...I am incharge of the ice cream....so I am gonna try making these an "wow" my guess with these cones....love your videos and recipes....your #1 fan in Trinidad
This is absolutely perfect 👌 for the ice cream stand im opening this summer. I like the chocolate dipped cones too I can already tast the delicious ice cream and smell the money!
I have been using my silicone kitchen funnels but might use aluminum on them. Your voice cadence is fun to listen to, making yours unique and recognizable.😊
As beautiful as the ice cream, er frozen custard, was, this is such a thing of magnificence. I often struggle to use the imbalance of egg yolks and whites, and this is a great combo. I just need to make more cones!.
This is actually really helpful. It's hard to find gluten free ice cream cones and it's been years since I've had one. I will be trying this with my favorite gf flour blend.
That was my first thought, too, just from seeing the thumbnail of the cones. Fortune cookies also have to be shaped while hot and will quickly harden. I'd bet you could make fine fortune cookies with this just by making smaller circles. It also made me wonder if anyone has ever made fortune cookies using the brown sugar version of this batter. That sounds worth a try for something a little different.
These are really traditional Norwegian cakes enjoyed at Christmas time, called "krumkake". You can buy krumkake makers ("krumkakejern") to make them, you pour the batter on the bottom, lower the top and when it is done, you have a beautiful cake to shape (a mold with a clip, like on a curling iron, will make the job so much easier and certainly save your fingers! You can get the makers both iron ones to put on the stovetop and electric ones (most common now). The makers give them a beautiful pattern, most often a traditional rosemaling type pattern. When we use them for Christmas though, we don't close the bottom. You can also shape them over a cup, to make a cake bowl to e.g. fill with cream and berries...
Hey Chef John, love your videos! Could you do a few on tofu? I eat very little meat and tofu is a great substitute but it is hard for me to get right. Thank you.
Yay! Made your french vanilla this weekend. So good and waaaay too easy to make. I swore I wouldn't make another batch for a few weeks but now I guess I have to try your sugar cone recipe. Waah. I'm gonna get fat.
Check out the recipe: www.allrecipes.com/Recipe/258371/Ice-Cream-Cones/
Food Wishes this looks yumm
The ice cream looks good. Since you did not make it, can you tell me what brand of ice cream.
👌👌👌👌
After all these years I am continuously stunned by how humorous your videos continue to be! Will definitely try making these.
I love 💞 your channel too
haha! I love that I love his humor too !lol!

Super easy to make and taste great.
Nice tip!!
I am so excited! I have severe allergies and it will be awesome to be able to eat an ice cream cone with out my throat swelling up and possibly dying!
This is so easy! Thank you Chef John for simplifying even the most difficult recipes! All of my friends think I'm Amazing all of a sudden at cooking and want to know where I learned!

I see your not the only one who noticed.
Lol this is true
you can put chocolate on the bottom to seal it too
I put chocolate not just in the bottom, but all inside the cone. It's pretty awesome.
Yes! Good tip! And it's delicious too! You could also rim the tops with some chocolate and sprinkles or something else too! :)

i add a small marshmallow
that sounds yummy!

ZIENDEE yes! I did the same. A little thicker but just as amazing

I was just about to ask if a pan would work! Thank you :D

I'm literally eating ice now, I wish I had one of these awesome cone. 😍

Those actually where 15 drops! You are a master chef John!
Protip: When no one's looking, dump a shitload of cayenne into the cones
MC Mike Did you just say "protip?" 😏😏
MC Mike i bet that's 😋 yummy!
MC Mike or do it when people are looking and say it's Hawaiian 🌺 red sugar.
MC Mike YES B I LOVE CAYENNE PEPPER.
yes dump the worlds hottest hot sauce in as well and give it to ur best friend
"You are the Rolling Stones of your homeade cones"
*Chef John back it at again with the puns
Not so much a pun. It’s just a rhyme
"LIfe is too short for regrets"
I didn't expect to that to hit me so hard this morning. Thanks Chef John! I came here for the cones, but I think that is going to stick with me for a long time.
This is the best baking tutorial I’ve ever watched

Aw nuts! Got it wrong!
I second the Al Capone prediction!
Chef John's was better. I shouldn't have even tried.
