I love how states "urge against travel" but they don't require paid sick leave. Some of us can't afford to call out of work for 2 days because of snow let alone when actually sick.
If you know this can happen, what are you doing to protect yourself against loss?
The government is not your mama. The company is not your daddy. Man up!

Says someone who probably grew up and lived in an area that gets snow every year. Have some sympathy for the people who don’t have to deal with this kind of weather every year.
One of the positives of this weather is how amazing these folks are who come in from wherever to help out. Going without power especially when it’s so cold is rough. Huge thanks to them. (Hearing “I am a lineman for the county…” Glenn Campbell.)
Canadian Linemen already down their waiting to help out.

Making drama out of the most common things can cause panic for weak minded people. Shameful media.
Those Nor'easters are dangerous storms.
the east'northsters arent much better
North Carolina had this problem for more than 20 years! They shut the cities down when it snows. They don't plow the streets or have 3 shifts so the streets are always covered in snow then turn to ice. Every year they deal with this and they don't fix the problem for the past 20 years! So sad. Incompetent people in the wrong job positions!
Try 50 years. However, it isn't cheap to have crews on hand for an event that only happens 'now and then'. In Greensboro, we spent 5 days without power in an ice storm. It's up to you to prepare for such things, not anyone else. As the report stated, 10,000 people are responding to this weather event, 4,000 from out of state, as far away as Texas. Sounds like a pretty solid effort to me. Again, NC doesn't face this that often, and people would complain if their power bills went up to cover the costs if they acted like NC had the same weather as Michigan.
Yeah but Monday sunny & 45 degrees
Guess what the roads are going to be like? 😂

I get it with the high winds and making sure infrastructure is up. In terms of media reaction It’s like one day of snow coming in, couple inches big deal. The panic buying always bothers me. People “stocking up” and clearing shelves to hunker down like they’re gonna be snowed in for a week. - Somebody from Northeast.
Yes and when I see this and look outside (lifelong member of the north east lol) I’m like how have we survived? 100 percent sure now my entire lifelong anxieties and “doomsday” were all tied to constant news watching in the house, I’ll click on something now bc im hoping anyone has sense. Like let’s ensure everyone’s basic needs are taken care of before media tells us we’re not making it through the next two days. It’s honestly pure insanity at this point. Hope everyone stays safe of course, sucks abc was my favorite for 2 decades,
I totally agree the panic buying is being pushed which I’m just replying to figure out how nothings in stores, now some is, now we’re not gonna make it buy everything now. Lmao
Yeah I hear ya,as someone from northern Wisconsin this is just winter; that's all. Everyone is all panicking about power being down when this is something that happens on the regular up here , I guess you gotta be built for it.
@@brianpeterson8667 many of those places don't have much winter weather. They shut everything down in a coating of snow because people don't know how to drive in it. Yes people in the north west, the great lakes area and the north east knows how to survive. The south has no clue. Just like here in WV, it is like they took stupid pills, when it comes to snow and ice. WV can have all 4 seasons in one day. Snow or flooding is an every year thing. So is power outages because the only power company we have doesn't invest in their infrastructure. We can be out of power any where from 3 days to two weeks without having a major storm. We tried to keep prepared. People in the south have no clue. Texas is the perfect example of ignoring winterizing and not being prepared.

Put the power lines underground. How many times do these power outages have to happen until the power companies will be forced to do it.
That is very expensive and not a cure all. Cutting down/trimming trees near power lines makes far more sense.
@@bftjoe I don’t care if its expensive, what is that even for an argument? The water pipes are all underground so they don’t freeze and miraculously that isn’t too expensive? Countries that have their majority of power lines underground have far less power outages.
@@SirDrago So you don't care if your electric bill is $600 a month? Somehow I doubt that. Or you want some magical other entity to pay for this?
You realize that fiber lines are usually buried and get hit by construction and other stuff all the time, right?
And don't even begin to compare to countries with a much smaller footprint and higher population density, that won't work in a country this big.
If you're this worried about grid reliability the correct solution is to use solar and batteries or other forms of NOT relying on the grid. Not demand expensive unworkable solutions because you feel better about them.
You realize burying water pipes is CHEAPER than not burying them, right? Water is heavy unlike some wires.
@@bftjoe I never said put all power lines underground. Transit lines will of course be above ground. Less lines above ground means less knocked down poles. Also why are you throwing randomly $600 around. My water bill is around $40 a month and the pipes are all underground. Also in a lot of downtown areas the power lines are already underground. I was not aware they have to pay $600 every month for their electric bill.
@@SirDrago They have the density to support burying lines. If your lines aren't already buried, that is because your area lacks the density to support it.
Imagine thinking that water and electricity are comparable in how they are transported. You're joking right?
Water takes up a lot more space and is much heavier than electric wires. If you put water pipes in the air it would be far more expensive than burying them, unlike power lines. It's almost as if people far smarter than you already thought of what the best most cost efficient way of doing things.
You need a big tunnel to bury power lines or else accessing the buried lines for maintenance or connecting new houses is far too expensive.
"The main reason why undergrounding hasn't been fully adopted in the U.S. is the overwhelmingly high cost of installing underground power lines. Estimates place the cost of undergrounding power lines at roughly $750 per foot, compared with $70 per foot to install power lines the way we do today"
So how do you plan to pay for this 10x increase in cost, genius? Why didn't they just use water pipes LOLOLOL. OMGz my water line is buried so so should my electric, because I say so OMEGALUL
My point about the $600 a month was because you said you don't care about the cost. So you do care after all?
Downtown large office buildings have far higher electric and electric connection bills than your house, who woulda thunk it!?!?!!?!? How dare they charge more than a water bill!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?
How dare a grocery store charge more for steak or tuna than potatoes!!?!?!!?!? They both come in on a truck, right!?!?!?!??!?

In the 1980s large snow falls in Georgia were not common
Due to global warming the jet stream has shifted and these storms are hitting further south than they used to.

It's a good thing climate change is a hoax or we'd be screwed huh? 🙄
Yeah and mysteriously last year it was 55 and sunny in Ark. Evidently the news is spot on if they are saying it will be snowing at 55 degrees. I hear a lot of "it is going to be doing x inches" beforehand and not much actual weather hitting. Here in chicagoland we were told that a blizzard was incoming after 6 pm friday. Getting 8-12 inches. Climate change is impacting us all!!!! Yeah we got exactly 0 inches but a freezing rain. I guess no blizzard for us. Thank goodness the weather stations are so accurate! By the same token they stated 8 inches a day for tues-fri on thanksgiving week and we got zero inches(but it was in the 20's for 2 of those days). Oh my goodness, it’s January and snow or storms never happen
But, global warming?
Why do Americans still believe all they need are all season tires?
True winter tires are more flexible at lower temperatures and will keep you on the road in bad winter conditions.
@Scotty secretly loves Chryslers Yeah, winter tires just aren't practical in many parts of the country and I've lived in several different states over the years. When you have only a handful of actual winter days each year, it really isn't worth it to spend the $$$ on another set of tires. You could always buy a second set of wheels for your winter tires as well, just to make it easier to swap them out, but that costs even more $$$.
@@soarstar I hope you didn't jinx yourself with that comment. I thought about getting winter tires but, I don't get out and drive, when the roads are bad. It is good to know they handle that well.
