You have just witnessed one of the greatest live guitar solos ever. Terry Kath was one of the best players to ever strap on a guitar. He was taken from us way to soon because of an accidental shooting. I was fortunate to see Chicago at Fillmore East a few weeks before this concert. Terry was on fire that night as well. 🎸🔥

Long guitar solo? These were the staple of 70's bands. That's why live albums were so popular, since you almost never got a guitar or drum solo on a studio album.

The guitarist was Terry Kath. Jimi Hendrix said he thought Kath was the best guitarist around. And Jimi wanted to join Chicago, but passed away before anything came about. Then in the late 70s, Terry was messing around with a gun, playing Russian Roulette with himself, and the gun went off, killing him. He thought the gun was empty. RIP Maestro!

I totally get what you mean by the "high school band" sound and I agree! Absolutely!

You have no idea the rabbit hole you are about to go down with this group. Their first album was called Chicago Transit Authority, after threatened legal action their name would be Chicago. They have 21 studio albums over 120 million in record sales 28 singles hits and arguably have better deep cuts than some of their singles. Their 1st 3 albums were double albums and have 38 albums in total. They are still touring. I have tickets to see them with Earth Wind & Fire in September. I would next check out their "Make Me Smile/More Than Ever Next". By the way they have 3 lead singers, so don't be surprised when each song sounds so different. They have quite the variety.

    - This is "early Chicago", w/ the classic lineup of musicians: my favorite :)

Early Chicago is when they really jammed. Later stuff was good but this early stuff was the best.

@@MarkLewis-sl5tk Yeah, they were still good in their later style - but there's no beating their early jamming! :)

Anazing instruments in this song. Another song that I like by Chicago Transit Authority is I'm A Man.

How did he make those sounds come out of his guitar - listen to Roy Buchanan - no pedals, no effects, the sounds he could get from his Tele, his fingers, and his amp.

    Guitar solo? . . . . . Mark Knopfler of "Dire Straits" playing "Sultans of Swing" at the Alchemy Concert . . . . . YOU'RE WELCOME!

It started off with just the guitar because the drums were being adjusted.
It's great this performance was captured on video - their debut album was released in 1969 this performance was in 1970, during 1969 to 1971 they played almost 500 shows, think about all the great performance that were never captured - think of the improvisations in his guitar solos night after night never to be heard again - with the rare exception of hiring a film crew shows existed in the moment - each show had it's own life, it's own breath, it's own energy, it's own sound.

ok.. so first thing don't talk over or interrupt guitar solos. The music is too quiet and your voice is too loud. If you're listening to the song on loud your voice hurts ears.

I hate it when a lot of people that review these videos talk over the music, totally ruin the songs. Usually turn them off.
