My first seven string was a Jackson JS32 Dinky. I love affordable guitars and when I put a SD Nazgul/Sentient set inside it I was not disappointed. Great video. I'm in the process of restoring a 91 jackson with emg 81 and 85 from before they came with the new wiring style. I'll never play it again but it was my dream guitar for many years and it deserves respect. I printed new covers for the electronics, almost 4 decades was not kind to the electronics cover. I'm trying to figure out a way to fix the cosmetic problems before I rewire. The clear coat is very thin on the black paint. It has the best action and fastest fretboard I've ever played.
My ibanez iceman ICT-700 that I got during the lockdown last year. I've wanted one of these guitars since watching Dragonforce at 18 (26 now) it plays beautifully, sounds monstrous and was a total case queen. For a guitar thats nearly 13 years old it still has the plastic on the cavity cover and has no knocks. I cherish it
That end riff! 🤘🏻 I used to own a Jackson king V Pro Dave Mustaine Signature! I sold it to find repairs to my 1975 VW Camper Van. I now have neither, I wish I hadn’t sold the guitar, it was so good to play.
I have 2 guitars that are very special to me: The first is an Ibanez RG3770FZ, the first guitar I actively saved up for and did summer jobs for. The second is a Mayones Regius that I ordered when I graduated and my first (semi-) custom guitar. I really hope you'll do a mini series or a video on reviving your APEX & J.Custom!
Absolutely beautiful guitars. My special guitar happens to be an Ibanez too. It was an Ibanez Gio GAX 30 my got for me when I was in high school. Still have it and I’ve modded it a lot. Still play it to this day.
A long long time ago....in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and ninety nine, my father bought me an ibanez rg7420L for christmas. Its gone through changes over the years and upgrades were made. Its a very special fiddle to me. Keep on that up and up, and keep em chunky.
Watching you play those 2 7 string Ibanez guitars is what made me subscribe.. I love those original tracks you posted back in the day. Even rewatched them recently.. great playing and sick axes! I wish Ibanez made these still!
I have 2 that I just absolutely refuse to part with. The first is my RGMeadows T-style semi custom, built by a local luthier I know. The thing has major tuning issues that I have no idea how to fix, nor has a professional setup worked, but it has the best neck out of all my guitars and plays fantastically. Tons of mojo and ariff machine, have it permanently in drop D which kind of fixes the tuning problems. Second is my Ibanez RG6420 7 string. I got it used and beat up for $300 and I've put so much work into her I can't part with her. She's my first and, at the moment, only 7 string. Her name is Sasha and she's pretty.
Love the finish on those. I thought they were a black on black crackle finish, but on the close shots it looks like they are one solid finish. I’d definitely love to have a guitar with a finish like that
I've got a very special guitar for me. It's a Cort EVL-K47b. It's my first guitar ever. It's a 7 string baritone with a 27 inch scale. I've bought it for a 400$ at times when I was a student. It was a big money for me. Then a war happened in Ukraine and I've missed it for a 3 years and after that it was returned to me. I so appreciated it so I decided to mod it and replace all of the electronics. So now it's a baritone with Fishman Fluence Modern 7 pickups set, Hipshot locking tuners, Tone Pros bridge and man, it's a war machine. Works great in any music genre. I love this guitar
One of my favorites would have to be my Cort G Series. Got it in 2007 and its still my go to drop B guitar. Loaded with Emgs, locking tuners, swamp ash body and carved maple top. It looks and plays mint still after being setup right
My LTD Arrow 1000 in the Violet Andromeda finish is so special to me. I’ve wanted this guitar for years, and was finally able to get it last year. After fighting through the initial frustration of my very first Floyd Rose guitar and installing the EMG Het set, that guitar was everything I wished for AND more. I’ve even just finished recording a couple songs with it that I’ll put out soon! I’ll never part with this guitar.
I don't really like Ibanez, but they were definitely pioneers in the 7-strings. Nowadays I think there are multiple manufacturers that have interesting models, but Ibanez was the first to mass produce several 7-strings.
@@ptdakos I've had a C7 Hellraiser for 14 years, couldn't be happier. Their 8 strings are 28" scale if you are feeling adventurous. I bought a Banshee Elite-8 in 2015, best decision ever. 28 inch 8 string is like rediscovering guitar all over again. Loads of fun.
The J custom sounds amazing I used to have a 6 string bass guitar that I loved, the day I got it, I started practicing a lot. I sold it and worked a summer to get a Fender Jazz bass following the advice of my bass teacher. Was nice at the beginning but I started to regret it. Now 10 years later, I still miss it and ordered yesterday the 2020 version of it : a 6 string premium ibanez. Guitar wise, I was really into down tuning and almost a year ago I got my first baritone with evertune. That one is a game changer. Can't stop playing it.
Love the intro, the middle, the end and all the contents throughout. Oh... and the riffs were good too🤘😀🤘 Great video Pete, excellent playing!!! They really do sound amazing.
My first guitar was a 7 string. ESP Ltd MK 15 a nice budget model to get me started. I was such a newb with my guitar knowledge i didnt realise it was a 7 when I purchased it. I never went back and now a regular 6 feels weird to me. Still own this guitar today and I love digging it out and having a go on it.
I've got a few that are special to me, but my #1 is my Ibanez S2120xav Prestige. A good friend of line worked in a little local guitar shop years back, and this thing had been sitting there for a while. The guy who'd sold it had been desperate for money for whatever reason, and since it wasn't selling, he sold it to me for cost just to break even. I ended up getting it for just over $500. I've put a DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge, and have a Schaller in it because the original trem went bust after a number of years (wasn't in great condition when I got it), so that needs replacing with a proper Floyd Pro, but I'd never, never sell her. It's more valuable to me than any amount of money.
Fantastic video, Pete - awesome stories behind the guitars and killer riffing! I have a Schecter Banshee 8 string that I can hardly put down once I've picked it up. Korn was the first time that I knew about 7 strings, and the same for Meshuggah for 8's. Keep rocking, man \M/
God damn, man. You are one of my inspirations that got me started playing guitar one year ago, and hearing riffs as these light a new fire every time. Love your stuff, sir!
loving it bro!! keep the metal flowing!! i got a 6 string n 7 string RG series ibanez. the 6 string is 18 years old. my 1st real nice guitar. Ibanez is my love. love the 7 strings too. next step meshuggah n 8 strings n a 4 string starter bass.
Nice riff work, for starters. I would love to hunt down every xl series produced by Ibanez. A lot were j customs around 2000-2002. Then came the 1077xl, I actually have the 2027xl version, and that ax110 xl from 2005. So I've already gotten started.
I have 2 guitars that are really special to me. My Schecter Omen 7, my first 7 string that i got as a birthday/christmas 2019 present. Second guitar i owned and the first one in 20 years! It really converted me to playing 7 strings! The second is my RGIB21 modded with Fishman Moderns, it just sounds and feels so good to play and made me fall in love with Ibanez guitars. So the next logical step... Ibanez 7 string!
Hey Pete, great vid. I was gifted the apex 1 on my 21st birthday a long time ago and remember watching your video and getting pumped to play it!! It came set up a whole step down and very thin strings so sounded terrible (especially with that 25.5 inch scale length). Took me months of googling to get it sorted!
I ran across a Prestige Talman at my local music store for a KILLER deal. It's the highest spec (without modding) guitar I've bought and couldn't be happier with it! Next to that I have a BC Rich WMD SOB that I've modded heavily and couldn't ever see selling. It's a definite legacy piece for me.
@Pete - Love your channel brother. Every Ibanez I have every played on was solid and the action was great. But.....also later developed wiring issues. Take it to your favorite lutheir or electronics guy and get them wired for battle. Keep cranking out the tunes, the word deserves to hear your talent. Two Guitar Stories: ONE: I have a Lady Luck electric acoustic that was set up by the late Mike Lull in Bellevue (Washington State in the US), and the action is till amazing to me. I record most of my music on it, and then just run it through VST's for crunchification. People cannot beleive that the guitar they are hearing in my tracks is an acoustic. They're like, "WHAT?!" But now that Mike has passed on and he did such amazing work on this guitar for me, and it the only one that he ever worked on for me, that guitar is special to me. Mike was the luthier to just about anyone who came out of the Pacififc Northwest and was famous. Mike's crew of trained lutheirs continue under his name though....and I need to actually make a trip there to have them setup a guitar that I have that I love, but that the action is less than ideal. Despite being an engineer for a living, I have somehow not figured out how to do my own setups so that the strings do not buzz and let are close enough to absolutely rip up and down the fretboard without even using my pick hand (righty). TWO: Also I have two ESP guitars with active pickups that were setup by Johnny DeVol at Bellevue American Music that existed for over 30 years in Bellevue WA. With the changes since the 90's where kids don't play guitar anymore, they play XBOX online, and people shopping more and more online, pluys Guitar Centers around every corner, Johnny went out of business. Miss that guy and his team, I bought almost every other guitar I have there, and Johnny did the setups personally on three of them. Those guitars will always be special to me and I will never let them go, for any amount. Anyone interested can check my attemnpts at musicat www.bitchute.com/senseiofsong/ When I grow up I wanna play like Pete. :-)
Not a special guitar but the first guitar I bought for myself was an omen 6 fell in love w that guitar. Later on got a demon 7 and now schecter is my fav guitar manufacturer
Got 2 that are close to the heart for me, nothinv really special about them other than they feel and sound like they were made just for me. First one was an aria acoustic i got in 2002 and the other was a 2005 ESP ltd EC-2005
First guitar was pitch black Ibanez RGR321. I was quite hesitant to actually get it since I wanted to spend money on video games instead but my dad twisted my arm a bit since he know I was musically inclined. Best thing he ever did for me. Played the f**k out of it to the point my mom threatened to throw it away since it was interfering with my highschool studies. Since upgraded the standard pickups with a set of fishman fluence modern humbuckers. 2nd Guitar was an Ibanes artwood premium. Sounds amazing, everything else is a bit if a clusterf**k though. Neck was permanently warped so they swapped the neck out since it was under warranty. Knobs come loose every few months, all the screws are rusted. Some screws cracked the wood leaving ugly blemishes. Pickups are very low output but the sound is so unique and I get such a great variety of tones that I'm struggling to decide if I should upgrade them or not.
Yup, J Customs were Japan exclusives for a long time. That’s why I was so stoked to find one. I was totally wrong about the scale length though haha. It’s definitely 25.5” scale :)
i could not have a lesser use for a tremolo but after buying a disappointing brand new gibson explorer from my first earned money and years later an ibanez 7 string with the edge system i would never recommend another guitar without a tremolo system to anyone. it really shows that the explorer design is from the 50 and it stays in tune for about 5 bends. the fine tuners on a tremolo system along with the locking nut are one of the best inventions in guitar history in my eyes. it stays in tune for weeks or even months. it really is worth the pain of setting it up
My first guitar was a Gibson Sonex 180 Custom, a weird 3 year run of a "low end" Gibson Les Paul-style. Has these wild open face dual humbucking "Dirty Fingers" pickups, with a coil-over switch. It's made of this stupid heavy resin stuff that was supposed to emulate Ebony or Mahogany wood without being as expensive as either. The fret board is Mahogany that plays and sounds like Ebony, and the neck is Mahogany. So it's crazy heavy to wear on stage but it sounds SO HEAVY xD It's the crunchiest, meanest sounding guitar I've ever played. Pretty standard scale length but I started putting heavy gauge strings on it and it plays it Drop A quite well. I got it when I was 15, on a total fluke. Had been hanging on the rack at the local guitar shop for a few months and I'd been guitar shopping for like 4 years. The Epiphone Les Paul I'd been eyeballing and playing all the time but was *just* out of my price range was sold one day, and I was bummed out. Sat in my spot all dejected teenage boy and looked for something to play. Noticed the muted dark metallic fleck red finish and black pickguard on an old Les Paul knockoff looking body and looked at the headstock: The Gibson Guitar Company I spazzed, tried it out, fell in love, called my mom, and we bought it that day, was just inside my 400 dollar price range she'd given me. Still have it and play it to this day. I'm better on it playing than any other guitar I ever pick up haha Thanks for this awesome video! And do something Psycroptic oriented soon! :D Would love to see how you capture their vibe on an original riff!
I have RGD2127FX, RGIX7FDLB-NLB and RG1527 as 7 strings which I play the most. There's no story behind them really. I just bought them, because I liked them. I am somewhat a collector. When ever I see a beautiful guitar and if I have the money for it I'll buy it although the guitar must pass a very strict observation done by my wife. If she likes the looks too, it's a green light. 😅 That ending riff kicks ass on so many levels. 😍
My special guitar is my Yamaha Pacifica 012 (base model pretty much), I've had it for like 15 years and it's the only thing I've ever played. I did change the bridge pickup and the tone capacitor on it, it needed at least that
as always your riffs are awesome. i have an epiphone lp100, red sunburst which was my first lefthanded electric guitar. now i play schecter but i like to go back and take epi, old tube amp and crank it up with some classics :)
I have an EM-18 (Martin) that my uncle gifted me and a BC Rich ST-III that I bought for myself. Those were the first two of many. The Martin is probably worthless at this point. Headstock was cracked and repaired. Still has good sound, though wiring should be looked at. The BC Rich still sounds and plays great. Wish I could say the same of myself!
2001ish bought a BC Rich warlock but it doesn't like low tuning. 2020 started playing again and some guy on UA-cam played Apex 2.0 on $checter MS7. I bought one and love it. Local shops doesn't even carry anything that nice or style. I also wanted a 6 string for low tuning, not knowing what to get I bought a Haze 6FF and holy crap that guitar loves drop B. That cheap guitar is really good.
Sick Ibanez guitars man, they're both brutal! I've got a white Schecter Hellraiser C-7 with a FR and it's the love of my life lmao any time I want to play or record music, and want it to sound brutal, tight and high quality, I pull it out, and torture the neighbors for a couple of hours haha
A Fender Strat that I bought in the US and brought all the way back to Russia 10 years ago. I then put an SD hot rail into it, and it literally became a perfect 6-string for me. Also, great vid as always, mate! :-)
Jackson Pro Series Misha Mansoor HT6. I had a decent schecter but for some reason I just hated everything about it, ended up going to a guitar store and they happened to have a B stock Misha Jackson after I had been looking at them online all night, figured it was a sign. I've never enjoyed playing guitar so much, I love that guitar.
My LTD viper 1000 deluxe olympic White, never had a more perfect guitar for me, i mostly play comeback kid-ish stuff in C# and this guitar is The guitar to do it on
Ibanez apex 2, first 7 i got and still have one. Unique finish, unique recessed TOM bridge. They are getting quite hard to find now a days so im always on the hunt for them. Great mid level, entry to 7s.
My Ibanez RGA42. Very stock looking guitar, black ibanez rg with off white binding. It's currently standard in every way and was about £350 brand new. It plays better than any other guitar i've played including those 3 times the price. Nothing has ever suited me as well as that guitar. It too needs tlc, and it's my plan to fit it with some nice locking tuners and throw in some fluence pickups or some such at some point, but from a playability standpoint, nothing has come close yet. For me at least.
Man that running riff on the J Custom at 6:20 was incredible.

A long long time ago....in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and ninety nine, my father bought me an ibanez rg7420L for christmas. Its gone through changes over the years and upgrades were made. Its a very special fiddle to me.
Keep on that up and up, and keep em chunky.
That J custom with a Evertune and maybe a SD Pegasus/Sentient set, or some other nice passive set, would be absolutely insane.
Evertune equipped ESP has become my all-time favorite guitar.
It looks and plays mint still after being setup right
that j.custom just sounds amazing
My LTD Arrow 1000 in the Violet Andromeda finish is so special to me. I’ve wanted this guitar for years, and was finally able to get it last year. After fighting through the initial frustration of my very first Floyd Rose guitar and installing the EMG Het set, that guitar was everything I wished for AND more. I’ve even just finished recording a couple songs with it that I’ll put out soon! I’ll never part with this guitar.
Both of my special guitars are Ibanez GIO models, one my first 7-string and the other my first and so far only 5-string bass
I don't really like Ibanez, but they were definitely pioneers in the 7-strings. Nowadays I think there are multiple manufacturers that have interesting models, but Ibanez was the first to mass produce several 7-strings.
The fact that Ibanez hasn't figured out that 26.5" is the **correct** scale length for 7 strings is inexcusable blasphemy. Schecter wins.
@@AustinPowerz-bn5ry I agree. I was browsing Thomann the other day and Schecter seems to be where it's at for reasonably priced 7-strings these days.
@@AustinPowerz-bn5ry The RGD7s are all 26.5.
@@k5elevencinc0 Good I'm glad to hear it.
The J custom sounds amazing
I used to have a 6 string bass guitar that I loved, the day I got it, I started practicing a lot.
Can't stop playing it.
for me its my early 2000s bc rich kkv because for some reason when ever i pick it up its always ready to go and handle the action.
Dude!! I absolutely love your songwriting!!! Oh I could listen to those riffs all day💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
3:07 onward is so Unearth I love it
Good stuff Pete, this feels like a great return to form for you. So lovely to see you enjoying yourself. And the riffs are awesome.
The Seven Be With You
Love the intro, the middle, the end and all the contents throughout. Oh... and the riffs were good too🤘😀🤘 Great video Pete, excellent playing!!! They really do sound amazing.
Love your riffs man
Thanks! :)
Holy crap Pete, can we get a full video of you doing those classical riffs?? Also, any thoughts on the multi-scale 7 strings?
My first guitar was a 7 string. ESP Ltd MK 15 a nice budget model to get me started. I was such a newb with my guitar knowledge i didnt realise it was a 7 when I purchased it. I never went back and now a regular 6 feels weird to me. Still own this guitar today and I love digging it out and having a go on it.
Gosh, his hands are flying. He makes it look so easy. EVERY TIME!!!
Solid riff right in the beginning.
loving it bro!! keep the metal flowing!! i got a 6 string n 7 string RG series ibanez. the 6 string is 18 years old. my 1st real nice guitar.
6:19 ...just causally kicking your ass across the universe
Very nice man. I'm twice as impressed by your ability to write riffs as I am by the guitars
That last riff is insane
got me an Ibanez universe from the 90s and an ltd V407B both awesome guitars. ltd gets most of the love brutal guitar
UA-cam's riff master!
You are truly a Master of your craft Bro
Two Guitar Stories:
ONE:
I have a Lady Luck electric acoustic that was set up by the late Mike Lull in Bellevue (Washington State in the US), and the action is till amazing to me.
TWO:
Also I have two ESP guitars with active pickups that were setup by Johnny DeVol at Bellevue American Music that existed for over 30 years in Bellevue WA.
Anyone interested can check my attemnpts at musicat www.bitchute.com/senseiofsong/
When I grow up I wanna play like Pete. :-)
Funny this video came out. I recently rediscovered my RG and have been playing it a lot lately.
Getting some within the ruins vibes 🤘 very nice riffs sir 👌
The second riffs is so good !!!
My schecter Omen 7 is pretty special to me. Gatewayed me into actually writing and playing most metal that I know now.
My favorite guitar is my Ibanez in a deep purple fade with chrome pickups and wammy bar
Nice playing as always Pete! The JCustom sounds nasty! 🤘🏻
That intro riff made my day
My '89 USA made Peavey Nitro Active I...only bad thing about it is that it also has a trem system...other than that its completely awesome!
Hey I love your 3rd track is it available on the platforms?
Not a special guitar but the first guitar I bought for myself was an omen 6 fell in love w that guitar. Later on got a demon 7 and now schecter is my fav guitar manufacturer
My 3 guitars were stolen from my house one of which I was most upset about.
One I’d spent a lot of time customising and could never get back
Love The J Line Ibanez n Apex Monkey Korn
Those riffs are soo good bro, ngl
Thanks! I think it’s time I finally made an album with a bunch of chunky riffs/songs :)
Got 2 that are close to the heart for me, nothinv really special about them other than they feel and sound like they were made just for me. First one was an aria acoustic i got in 2002 and the other was a 2005 ESP ltd EC-2005
The j.custom 8327 doesn't have baritone scale length as you stated in the vid ( I have one myself). It has a standard 25,5
I just read on Ibanez Wiki that the 8327 is also a 25.5 scale, and that it's a Japanese exclusive model :)
Noticed the muted dark metallic fleck red finish and black pickguard on an old Les Paul knockoff looking body and looked at the headstock: The Gibson Guitar Company
I spazzed, tried it out, fell in love, called my mom, and we bought it that day, was just inside my 400 dollar price range she'd given me.
Still have it and play it to this day. I'm better on it playing than any other guitar I ever pick up haha
Thanks for this awesome video!
That ending riff kicks ass on so many levels. 😍
My special guitar is my Yamaha Pacifica 012 (base model pretty much), I've had it for like 15 years and it's the only thing I've ever played. I did change the bridge pickup and the tone capacitor on it, it needed at least that
I had One of apex models early 2000, i don't remember the exact year, a blue One. Great guitar and so much regret when i sold it...
as always your riffs are awesome. i have an epiphone lp100, red sunburst which was my first lefthanded electric guitar. now i play schecter but i like to go back and take epi, old tube amp and crank it up with some classics :)
Keep up your good work, I like your videos very much 🤘🏻
2001ish bought a BC Rich warlock but it doesn't like low tuning.
That J Custom is badass sir
After playing these guitars, nothing was the same again! Which guitars are YOUR special guitars? :)
A Fender Strat that I bought in the US and brought all the way back to Russia 10 years ago. I then put an SD hot rail into it, and it literally became a perfect 6-string for me. Also, great vid as always, mate! :-)
A kiesel vanquish 7 string, i dont have it but if i have it i would be REALLY happy
Shit man... lovin' that riff at about the 6 and a half minute mark! Well done.
THAT FIRST RIFF!!!!!!
With new electronics that guitars will remain alive for years
Man, you are a riff machine!!!!!
Sick riffs, as always! I’m hoping to to get my 1st 7 string soon. Funny enough I was also looking at Ibanez, particularly at the GRG7221
2:30 a blastbeat would have been fantastic there
I came into this video with low expectations as I am not a big fan of the Ibanez sound but holy heck these sound incredible!
