- SSD install on a 15-cs0073cl HP 15" 2018 laptop. i couldnt find any videos on how to take it apart so i thought i would make a small video.
i couldnt clone the Hard drives so i ended up getting windows install on a USB flash drive and reinstalling windows. No key was asked. now the laptop runs a lot quicker.
Orginal Hard drive was 1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
New Hard Drive is a 500GB Samsung 860 Evo Internal SSD i bought from Best Buy for $119
This is the second video I found that says: "Just pry it open..." Mine seem pretty tough to pry open. Can you show the exact steps (location ) to start prying the cover off?
I started at the front right corner as it's upside down with the front toward me. There are hidden latches all the way around. My problem is it seems to be glued or otherwise secured at the back of the battery area. I'm hesitant to reef on the plastic too much. Did you get yours open? Do you have any advice how to do it without breaking something?
Hey Paul, thanks for making this video! I am planning to get this laptop from Costco. But before, I wanna ask you some questions. It's a relatively new laptop so I could not find any review on this. I've seen a comment on Costco website that it is super slow even with its specs.(8th gen. i7 and MX150) One other question I have is about the heat and fan. How hot does it get? and How loud is the fan? I will greatly appreciate it if you can answer my questions!
Seattle Beast yes it is slow from the box, the hard drive spins at 5400rpm only. That’s why I installed this ssd and it is quick now. I have no complaints. About the heat and fan noise? I don’t really hear the fan. It never really got that loud that it would make me pay attention to it.
I have the same model but got the Intel core i5 version w/ 256g SSD+1TB HDD config.
About the laptop overheating well it does heat up whether you are using the laptop for extensive tasks like playing games, but using other resource-eating apps like Photoshop CC doesn't tend to heat up the device.
As for the noise, it comes with 2 fans as shown on the video since it cools down the dedicated graphics card inside the hp laptop & it does become noisy while using intense apps like Photoshop & high-quality vids etc.
For optimal light usage, it's very quiet for a duel-fan solution hehe!
Best HP Pavilion Laptop 2018 model so far. If you don't mind spending extra cash on the Intel i7 model then go for it, or if you want to save a few $100 then go for the i5.
Performance won't matter since you can upgrade the HDD for a SSD or combine it with a M.2 SSD for super-fast boot up times!
Im also planning to get this model as well, but Im worried if I do it, that the hard drive wont clone over to the ssd properly, or that I may void warranty if I do so. Will I be okay?
hi, how are you?
this notebook dont have a m.2 port for upgrade?
tks
I cannot tell you. I'm not 100% sure
@@pahaf1991 what you think?
yeah it does if you look at the vid you see it just below the samsung ssd
Is a plastic or aluminum laptop?
Yes it does
Is it made out of plastic or aluminum??
the bottom cover piece is plastic but the frame of the laptop is metal
Thanks a lot!
You say in your description that you couldn't clone the hard drive. Why is that??
Im not 100% sure why it didn't want to work. maybe because the original hd was 1tb and the ssd was 500gb.
It would start cloning, get to 5% and then just show a error msg. no matter what program i used.
@@pahaf1991 Hmmm.. so what did you do instead?
I downloaded "Create Windows 10 installation media" to usb and reinstalled windows to the new hard drive.
So put a windows 10 install on a usb stick.
Put in the SSD into the laptop.
Boot from the USB Stick and Install Windows 10 that way
Last thing was to go to HP website and reinstall all the drivers for this laptop.
Laptop has been working for about 4 months now no problems. We love it.
@@pahaf1991 Will it work from a recovery drive instead?
Say you put in the SSD, then boot it from the recovery drive. Would that work?
@@wolfhowlex it should. That was going to be my other option.
