Shake Hands With Danger... one of the greatest films of all time! We watched it in college in a heavy equipment course. That theme song still haunts me lol
Great safety film, 100% guarantee that all who see it understand, we had a few machine shop films here in the UK, very graphic, especially with grinding machines and debris in the eyes.
Thanks for putting those outtakes in at the end. That made my day. I think it is easy to think that everything is always perfect for some people without realizing that our lives all take lots of work.
Thanks, Adept you helped with my safari. I have that early model 3126 in my safari with the copper injector cups and crossover tube(the 3116 with electronic injectors HUI system). My no start issues ended up being some wiring, sensors, and at end it was injector 5 and 6 that was the real issue. Cat dealer diagnosis was helpful but expensive. Since then all repairs I managed on my own, that is with having time space and knowledge.
It is very refreshing to hear and know YOU SIR know what You are talking about.and when You are in doubt admit it.i'm an old guy who has heard the remark yea ya need a thing a ma bob and an overhaul.or golly to bad.how bout we sell ya this real gem.i like detail and what you work with especially the new stuff with computers detail and the electronics is everything.throwing parts don't cut it.keep up the awsome work.Thank You Sir.
If that engine has been sitting for a long time, very common on RVs as you'd know, most likely the injectors leaking. Or our favorite little furry critters got to some wiring. Waited to post this until the end, I think your videos are making me a better Kittypiller mechanic.. Thanks man
Those iapcvs look a whole heck of a lot like IPR's on old 7.3s. I find it interesting to hear about cats HEUI injection system. Such a baffling concept for some, oil pressure to fire injectors. Power strokes have made me very familiar with HEUI lol. Keep up the great content!
Very similar because CAT and Navistar co-developed HEUI. Plus a third party individual whose estate ended up suing both. Ford may have been involved a tiny bit in development. CAT and NAV ended up in a lawsuit over patents. I believe CAT won and then put Alliant in business to build injectors for the replacement market. IIRC.
Ahh hell Josh, you don’t need to do a retake on account of the the “little guy” giving his two cents worth…, loved hearing him. Great video, Thank you sir. Edited: did not proof read, should have read “don’t” need to do a retake…
Hello Josh! Thank you for the great videos, very informative! I have been struggling with a 3126 round top HEUI in a 99 Freightliner. Following your steps, I confirmed voltages +12, grand and switched +12V available to the ECM. There wasreally no HEUI pressure at the head until I replaced the IAP solenoid with the block off tool which then ran up to 4000 psi, so I believe the pump is good. I did replace the IAP solenoid with no joy. I also tested the wiring from the ECM to the IAP solenoid which tests okay, continuity exists....I tried disconnecting the sensor for HEUI oil pressure in the head, that didn't bring the pressure up. I also had pulled the valve cover before and there were no obvious leaks (done before getting the block off tool). I tried connecting to the ECM with no success. This all led me to think the ECM had failed. I sent the ECM out to be repaired, they se nt one back and I get about 100-200 psi oil pressure but no start. What is the voltage required to close the IAP solenoid to ramp up the pressure? Thinking if I bypass the ECM for that I can confirm if I just got a bad repair.... Thank you for your time and videos, really enjoy them!
Hello Stuart, Thank you for the donation by the way, can you please email me at AdeptApe@yahoo.com instead of using this comment section for questions. I don't get notified when I get comments or replies, but in an email I can really help you more. Please let me know your engine serial number in the email as well.
Man you are super sharp on your stuff like you I enjoy working on the huei system I work a lot with the 3126 an the good ol international dt466e basically the same thing just different color of wrapping paper
Here's a question for you. What was the oddest thing you ever found in an oil pan from a running engine? I found 7 bent push rods in a Cummins big cam 855 that drove in for an inframe. Also had a 3406B with almost 800,000 miles that never had piston cooling jets. I couldn't believe it lasted so long. The owner bought it new and he said only valve adjustments were done and a water pump.
Was is supposed to have piston cooling jets and just didn’t or was the port blocked off. I don’t think It would build any oil psi if the cooling jets just weren’t there. I’ve heard of some older diesels that didn’t make very much horsepower and heat for a need for piston cooling jets
Those injector orings are also the cause of a no start or hard start on Navistar huei engines as well. I've also heard that the old 7.3 powerstroke had the same issues but I've never worked on those before.
If u put a variable resistor on the heui rail pressure sensor u can trick engine to think its reached the pressure required to start ( from memory, it's min press is 5000kpa or 725psi). Et will always display injection disabled if it doesnt reach the minimum rail pressure. Easy way to get running and verify leaking injector orings without removing valve covers
Last C15 I drove had like two huge mufflers and all kinds of stuff regarding the fuel.system..Shop mechanic told me this was like one of the last Cat truck engines made and had all kinds of add ons ..Didn't really run bad tho.
Hello Thanks for your knowledge I have a 3126 it was running good I parked it at a friend's house and now it will not crank over I get power on the dash , my batteries are good, my starter is good out of no where it just will not start if I touch the starter with power it just turns over but not start
I recently bought a GMC T6500 cabover Caterpillar 3126 it's an older truck 1999 with only 94,000 miles on it drove it over 5 hours after purchasing to get it home it ran excellent, got home shut it off with the turn it right back on it wouldn't start, let it cool down tried it a couple hours later and fired right up next day I change the transmission fluid and I let it warm up ran excellent shut it off to check the fluid and it would not start back up let it cool down a couple hours and it fired right back up, any suggestions?
You need a blue blinking light like the parts guy when he’s on the phone for the kiddo when the mic is hot. My CAT C-12 engine scared me the other day when it didn’t start. Somehow it loses the prime over night. 😟 Luckily the Racor filter has a pump to prime the system, but I’m also wondering if that’s the culprit.
Hey Josh, thanks for great content. Thought i would throw this out at you for a possible diagnosis… I have a 2006 motorhome with a CAT C7 350hp engine. When the RV sits, The engine will start and run about 3 seconds, then shut off. Then will crank/no start after that. I have to crank for an extended period of time,20 to 30 seconds to finally get it to start, with a burst of black smoke at startup. Then runs great, as normal. I can shut it off for an hour and still starts like normal. I had the fuel filter and fuel/water separator replaced thinking that was my issue. No help. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
I'm having a slow crank issue. 05 freightliner columbia Bxs c15 acert New battery's (tested good) Dash says 13.7 volts when running Will only start when jumped go over 13 volts. I'm thinking starter or alternator (Truck has 1.2 on it 30k on a brand new rebuild)
Need to do a voltage drop test. That will tell if there are any connection or cable issues up to the starter. If voltage is good up to the starter then likely a bad starter. Can also do a draw (amps) test on the starter.
Great video! Question, I am buying a 2007 c7 bus to go cross country. Do you have a recommended tool list for travel repairs and is there a way to get the code reader for the catc7 thats affordable? Appreciate your work!
Mine would start and then sometimes not.would run great and intermittently would run bad and come to a stop .if I let it sit for a minute it would start back up and run great .this went on for a while until it wouldn’t start. Turned out to be the lift pump looked like a tiny check valve in the intake side came loose .drove me crazy for a while if I didn’t see it fall out when I took off the pump I would of never figured it out
Good Evening adept, I have 3126 I just replaced the heui pump 3 weeks ago but I didn’t change the line orings from the engine to the pump so it started leaking oil pretty quickly today but I changed the orings today and now the truck won’t start thats really weird it was just cranking and driving before then with no issues. I replaced the injectors already about 2 yrs ago. I had someone come out and put a computer on it and the computer couldn’t properly read the ECM. He thinks its a ECM issue and I was thinking the solenoid may have went bad, but I just bought it with the pump. I was wondering if you could help me out with some advice
3406E will not start. Runs off starting fluid, but dies when exhausted of it. All 6 injector seals won’t all go out simultaneously, right? Fuel pump is good. Pressure at the fuel rail. I believe the ECM is not telling the injectors to fire. HELP OF YOU KNOW PLEASE!
Does Toyota or Honda make aftermarket parts for these because we are fed up with paying for these extremely expensive parts that don't last, especially on the C7s.
Hello josh.. i am trying to start a C7 CAT engine..its cranks but no start.. engine rpm okay no error code, but the injection actuation pressure produced during cranking is kind of high its produe up to 1200psi..i check all ecm input power and ground okay pin 70 key power okay but still does not start...what could be the problem...the engine is on a 950H loader.. Wish to here from you thanks Fuel pressure also okay
Couldn't you just hook an airline up to that high pressure oil line and see if the injector seals have the ability to hold air pressure? I mean even a runner tipped blow gun would work wouldn't it?
Hey pls can u help me solve this I have a cat 15 engine 2007 century that had the cylinder head replacement but the truck won't crank after the replacement
Didn't 3126 have the double cam sensor on them? One sensor was for ecm speed and the other was for tach? Seems like I remember getting my ass handed to me at cat with the same thought of a good tach rpm it was good. Been awhile though.
@@AdeptApe Right. One was like a pass through for tach, and the other was used by ecm. I remember they had different resistance values. I seem to remember with the new sensors I could unplug one and lose tach, if I unplugged the other it wouldn't run. It's been a long time though. I loved that job, but I sure don't miss ard head updates on LEE'S in the Freightliner M2's.
Ive got a 3126 that uses gallons of oil in 400 miles but no leak or noticible blue smoke whats the most likely cause also cranks a long time to start most of the time unless its hot
You are correct about the Cat video "Shake Hands with Danger"! Glad we could get you a hat sir! Love your videos!

We were shown that “Shake Hands with Danger” video when I took heavy duty mechanics in ‘83
I am so using the video in our next safety brief

I am office bound. Garry rolled the Dude in there and made the delivery.
"Shake hands with danger" goes back to the 1950's and electrical training videos.

Is there 2 tapes with the Shake Hands with Danger, we watched them a mine safety training, Good stuff 👍
I have a 3126 in my Safari coach and have considered carrying a spare HEUI pump. Most Safaris can get diag. codes from the Allison key pad.
Same here - but I think you'd use a spare tire first.🙂

If you fill the cylinders with marvel mystery oil and spray a can of Berryman down the turbo inlet you can rebuild any CAT engine
GRACIAS MY FRIEND.
I love the outtakes
The injectors also have a poppet valve on the oil pressure side that is sealed by two surfaces which wear out and cause oil pressure leaks
I heard somewhere that a HUI system is left stored for a long time, it could be a low engine oil issue. This may not be a CAT issue though.
My experience has been injector orings or wiring more often than not. I don't recall ever having to replace an ecm for a no start on a cat.
