I really like the laid back style of these vids. No fast cuts and yelling at me after a day of work. It feels like someone in front of me is actually talking to me like a regular person. Please keep it that way.
I really like your point about adding variance throughout the painting scheme of an army. I have never really thought about it in a “zebra“ kind of way but you’re totally right. Going to implement some more contrasting paint schemes across my next army.
Listening to your videos coming home from uni exams has became a tradition at this point. This one has tau somewhere too 😍 God bless my space shotgun goaty bois
Space Marine did okay, but shortly after its release THQ fell apart, and the plans for a sequel were first shelved then cancelled entirely as the publisher went bankrupt and was parcelled off in pieces around the game industry, so it just never got made. I'm super glad it finally is now though, happy the IP rights survived somewhere.
@Conan the barbarian I bought the anniversary edition on Steam. Super cool game! I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't buy it when it originally released.
Mixing color schemes in your army is a big part of why I chose a Blood Angels successor chapter for my Marines army. That & taking some inspiration from the old Rogue Trader camo schemes, has let me fit four different styles of paint job into my army.
I love your White (Black) Templars! Kudos to you for thinking outside the box, they remind me of the different colours specialist units from the same Legion can have in 30K.
Sabine is an operative, so you’ll still have to take a commander in game unless you’re using house rules. The rebel specialists box comes with a generic commander and a few other support type personnel. The generic commander is by far the cheapest option for that slot, so that may be a route you want to explore.
@@EonsOfBattle yeah, she is. If you look at her order token that came with the cardboard, it’s that double triangle thing not the winged triangle thing. She does have her own cards, explosions is awesome too, and she gets to use them as normal. When you play an operative’s command card you measure order range from that operative not your normal commander. Sabine works well with clan wren if you want more mandos and some more blunt force.
making mistakes have taught me a lot. for example, i now use (any) white paint to correct my mistakes and return later with the exact color i intended.
For those with painting anxiety.. it's just paint. You can remove it and do it again. For folks that makes content, you you have another video where you show a cleaning process. And a redemption of the model video as well. It's just paint, it's no biggie.
Painting anxiety is whay I go trough every time I touch a mini. I've watched so many videos and have such high standards for myself that I can't let go and just ne fine with whatever comes out.
I think for X-wing it's harder to grow a personal attachment to a model of a ship than a model of a person, which might one small reason why it's fallen off a bit
The thing that kind of killed X-Wing for me was the conversion kits. I had a good bit of Rebels, Empire and Scum and having to buy 3 different conversion kits was a bummer. Plus it was just a weird time in my life.
Personally, for me it was the upgrade from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition. The update kits weren't cheap and frankly as just casual players me and my son didn't wanna drop that much on the upgrades, but all the new content was for the new edition. As a casual player they never really sold to me as a player WHY I should want to upgrade.
That title hits close to home since I just started painting my first pathfinder and got to the feet and could just not figure out what was going on. So many questions. Are they wearing boots? Socks? Are those hooves? How does the sock not cover the toes? Why does the heal toe look different than the other toes?
My head cannon is that the "hoof" is part of the suits not whay their actual anatomy looks like. Maybe the are short so its like a lift or platform shoe.
According to the official Tau models those are supposed to be hooves. It's just odd to me since you'd think a technologically advanced faction like the Tau would give their troops shoes.
On GW keeping EVERYTHING available .... let me point to the infamous Chapterhouse lawsuite (aka the thing that killed Fantasy for good). In the ruleing the judges said that its not Copyright infringement to produce models that have rules in a game if the owner doesnt offer them. So if GW has rules for Landspeeders in the codex (to not piss of old fans) but doesnt sell Landspeeders (because the model is out of fashion) then BAM 3rd party Landspeeders everywhere. And James cant let that happen, right?
I understand feeling challenged by a model. I had to learn how to paint zebra stripes and leopard spots when I painted my Noise Marine. Also, I believe Tau feet are inspired by camels.
Tau feet are the main thing holding me back from painting an army, just can't do it🤣🤣 also, been into 40k since '99 and always liked tau since tehy cane out but only noticed theur feet a year or so ago🤣
I’m definitely going to need to rethink some of the painting variety now. I have a Templars army and I largely followed standard black for the most part with some splashes of color like white shoulder pads and red trim on the pads etc. My thousand sons won’t be quite as copy paste if I can find a way to mix it up. And I may try something else with the other Templars I have to do
Yes I have painting anxiety, would be a good vid cheers. For me it's usually about not wanting to waste my time if I mess up as I have so little of it.
Second edition x-wing is super fun. It’s the best game IMO. The reason x-wing has fallen off more than anything was that they had some odd choices in the order they reprinted old ships into 2.0 packs. Then, slap Covid and handing it off to amateur hour (AMG) and firing all the good devs…. Yeah. I’m a long time xwing player and love second edition. I hate what AMG is doing.
Yes, the X-Wing app was free, but you still needed to tell it how many of each conversion set you bought. If you had more of unit X than the conversion set had cards for, it would not let you put the other units in your list. Plug, I played the Empire and had just about every model. Then they came up with the First Order and carved my collection into two (each requiring their own conversion kit). Just couldn't justify the steep cost of conversion.
Sabine Wren is a super cool mini, but she's just an Operative for some reason, so you'll need some chump to fill that mandatory Commander slot. Han Solo might be cool, but I hear his head sculpt is rough.
Yup, you're right, sort of hooves, sort of toes - been doing Tau pedicures since 2005. Re: swarm of drones? Sounds like u got them confused with, like, Forge World rippers?
It seemed like the 2nd edition of X-wing wasn't too well recieved, from what I have heard. And now I kind of wonder... what would be the markings for your various squadrons....

I have so many models that I’m “waiting to get better at painting” before I attempt to paint. It’s sad, I’m just not a great painter, I’ve been really trying but I just don’t get the clean blends and highlights like you jay! I’ll keep trying tho!!
I loved X-Wing. What killed it for me was the new edition requiring me to buy "conversion kits" for every one of my two dozen or so ships, which I was not willing to do. At least when 40k changes edition I don't have to pay money for every unit individually to be able to play the game.
you don't have to buy the second edition versions of each ship, they sell faction conversion kits that come with all the cards and tokens you need to field most X-wing 1 ships
The foot does appear to be wrong on Darkstrider. I want what is being called the Sumo suit. I think having a ghoskeel sized punchy suit would be amazing.
Did you try steam's "new" proton magic for Space Marine? You might not be able to run the new game but I had a blast with the first on my linux machine without a dedicated GPU! Also great video, as always.
I'd much prefer to play as an Eldar Ranger, with the game cumulating in a sniper duel with a Vindicator Assassin and 2 squads of Storm Troopers room clearing and assaulting the building in the style of "The Dark Knight!" Jay, you chad. There's also a marine in dark red (not blood-red, just dark red) in Blanches Templars... Also, nice work on getting into Legion, have you managed to try out the miniatures for Cyberpunk: Red at all? They look really cool, just Christmas spending means I can't get any this side of the year!
honestly the biggest reason i never got into x-wing which i'm sure this to other's a pro but i just never liked the fact the models were pre-painted. i didn't mind that they were pre-assembled but i would have loved the ability to paint them myself. i guess maybe you could strip the paint and do it yourself but idk if that'd risk damaging the models and such.
speaking of GW shoving everything into the elite slot, the Custodes are actually losing two elite choices in their new codex as the Sisters of Silence Prosecutors move into the troops slot and the Witchseekers into Fast Attack. They're getting better, sorta, not really. But it helps!
I've been a big fan of Space Marine and put more than 100 hours on it between finishing the campaign in all difficulties, Exterminatus and vs mode. THL Nordic closed, and they kind of released the ideas behind the "next" two space marine games that they were planning to do. Sega got the rights for it, and I had the feeling they were planning something when suddenly out of the blue they upgraded every SM game to the "Anniversary Edition". It looked like they wanted people to get back to playing it, so I guess my hunch was in the right direction 😎. Edited: Also, I thought it would be an awesome idea to use the game engine to make "Aeldari", "T'au", "Necron", etc. That way, there's also other games and they could join in Exterminatus and Multiplayer.
I swear, some years into the future, you will look back at your older videos as you do it now and say to yourself: "Did I really need to repeat this long ass intro, word to word, every single time? Heh, how silly I was."
Xwing was the perfect game, but it got too heavy as it expanded. Which is the ultimate conundrum for game designers. They need to add more to make money and feed people's appetites, but hard to keep a system so clean.
2nd Edition rules for X-Wing were pretty great, but I also just sort of walked away from the game. Part of it was the fact that the community in my area was full of folks who endlessly complained about the parts of Star Wars they don't like and that was the only thing they'd talk about. Like half of the conversations would be people bashing the prequels and repeating the same old memes about how Disney Star Wars is no good and God I get sick of listening to that. Another aspect of it was that I think I just felt like I got everything out of X-Wing that I could. I played in tons of competitive matches and went to the World Open and had a blast. Shortly thereafter every game started to feel the same. It didn't feel like Star Wars anymore. It just felt like vanilla game mechanics and going through the motions. I felt like we'd mined its depths for any excitement that could be had.
I think the pandemic might have caused folks to move to a game where you can interact with the game when you're not playing it. That might be the problem with pre-painted miniature games. They just sit on the shelf when you're not using them. During the pandemic I definitely gravitated to games with a strong hobby aspect because that was how I could still escape into that hobby. Sure you can play X-Wing online with janky implementations but that is boring.
Their mistake with X-Wing was expecting people to buy boxes of cardboard for 50 bucks a pop to replace the cards and dials they'd already purchased with the ships. It literally killed interest in the game with everyone I knew. I still have all my 1st ed stuff though, and yes, it was an amazing game.
The issue with Jyn is that she's a decent support model in a faction that has much better specialists. Lando and Leia are better support commanders, Cassian is solid hunter with a nice cost efficient operative and Luke Skywalker and Sabine are the kind of characters who Thing with X-wing is basically the company that took over FFG basically stripped out all the development staff of that company for the sake of selling it on. The folks that own Asmodas isn't interested in miniature games. They basically scalped the entire company to sell on as quickly as possible.
As someone who played X-wing till just before 2.0 I think what killed it is all the conversion kits. Most people didn't play just one faction, they just bought everything. Dont get me wrong there were people who did only buy one faction but most people I encountered publicly bought it all. The conversion kits were good on ffg for not invalidating your stuff but it gave people an easy out of the game. for me personally I was looking at $250 in conversion kits just to play my stuff. I wasn't playing as much because frankly the power creep was making the game absolutely unfun compared to what it was when I started back around wave 2. I think they fixed most of the problems I had in 2.0, but as I said that $250 conversion cost gave me an easy out to just quit the game. Now it seems very much like a you pick 1-2 factions to play and thats all you play kind of game.
Tau have REALLY inconsistent feet. Throughout their lifetime, they've went back and forth between having 1 hoof like a horse or split hooves like a goat all willy-nilly.
Maybe different T’au have different hooves? Some people have longer/shorter toes, some have bigger/smaller toenails. But comparing them to bovids… cows, goats, sheep, bison, etc. also don’t have identically styled hooves.
I feel X-Wing’s decline was also hurt by the transition from FFG to Atomic Mass. -They just didn’t push it as much as they should’ve especially since they got rid of the original developers to the game as well as Armada. It’s not the sole cause but I do feel it contributed 🤷♂️
To be more clear Relic developers where keen on making a sequel, but THQ went under and after that relic assets where eventually sold to Sega, the problem was that it appears despite them having the rights of space marine the game, GW allegedly has the IP since they appear to lease rather than sell their IP's. is still unclear on how GW manages their licences but I imagine some sort of deal was struck with both companies,I have high hopes for this game but let's wait and see the gameplay. I'm also keeping and eye ok Chaosgate demon hunter which appears to be really good so far let's hope it is at the end.

I'd love to see a Titanfall style movement shooter but for Craftworlds, I think that would be absolutely awesome.
I’d like to see a Titanfall type game with tau crisis suits instead. But I’m glad someone else thinks Titanfall and Warhammer go well together 😃.
K that would be super cool.
Isn't Hired Gun a wall running jumping and shooting game?
So what your saying is the ingredients are already there
I just want to play titanfall :(
I really like your point about adding variance throughout the painting scheme of an army. I have never really thought about it in a “zebra“ kind of way but you’re totally right. Going to implement some more contrasting paint schemes across my next army.

My local game store still runs tournaments of X-Wing, Legion, and Armada.
I wasn't sold on the suppressors at first either but the grew on me a little bit but man can they put out shots. Strong unit on the table
I assure you Inquisitor, the Tau feet pics are imperative to the survival of the Imperium
Those suppressors look AMAZING, you're motivating me to try more complicated basing.

I understand feeling challenged by a model. I had to learn how to paint zebra stripes and leopard spots when I painted my Noise Marine.
Also, I believe Tau feet are inspired by camels.
White Templars are a canon successor chapter
Now THIS is quality content
i collected the micromaschines Space ships from starwars when i was a kid. They look very familiar and the same size as the Xwing models
"Wasp waisted " hahaha I don't know why that was so funny I've never heard that description before but i knew exactly what he meant so it works
have you painted the chibi minis yet?
If only it were a new Commander Farsight. I do like the look of the new Darkstrider and I'm real anxious to see the codex.
Hello everyone ! Name's Jacob, but everyone calls me doomstalker ! Nice to meet you.
Tau feet are the main thing holding me back from painting an army, just can't do it🤣🤣 also, been into 40k since '99 and always liked tau since tehy cane out but only noticed theur feet a year or so ago🤣
I came for the Tau, but stayed for the drone fan fic
If you look in the video at the top of the article for Darkstrider, you'll see in the spin around he has split hooves like the rest of the tau.
Oh the timing - I’ve just finished painting the feet of my Tau pathfinder team
I’m definitely going to need to rethink some of the painting variety now. I have a Templars army and I largely followed standard black for the most part with some splashes of color like white shoulder pads and red trim on the pads etc.
My thousand sons won’t be quite as copy paste if I can find a way to mix it up. And I may try something else with the other Templars I have to do
Maybe try mixing the 30k and 40k colour schemes for your thousand sons? The contrast of the red/gold to the blue/gold could make some units really pop
The different How's crack me up every time
Yes I have painting anxiety, would be a good vid cheers. For me it's usually about not wanting to waste my time if I mess up as I have so little of it.

Do you have any good suggestions for Diy Tau drone flying stand?
LOL Tau boot fashion has come a long way :P
How about Navy Blue? That would be cool scheme for your Templars
Tutorial for your grim dark white Templar/space marine armour please!
Battlefleet Gothic will forever be my favourit GW PC-Game... and the first release is even better than the newer release.
Sabine Wren is a super cool mini, but she's just an Operative for some reason, so you'll need some chump to fill that mandatory Commander slot. Han Solo might be cool, but I hear his head sculpt is rough.
The Black Armor problem is why I'm a big fan of red Techmarine armor and blue Psyker armor in my Iron Hands army
Read the title of the video and was curious.
Was not disappointed. XD
Ive got three max squads of stingwings
I do love the idea of star wars tabletop games that operate at different scales. Xwing is like aeronautica, legion is like 40k, now they need a star wars killteam and ttrpg
And yes i know aeronautica came out way after xwing
I have so many models that I’m “waiting to get better at painting” before I attempt to paint. It’s sad, I’m just not a great painter, I’ve been really trying but I just don’t get the clean blends and highlights like you jay! I’ll keep trying tho!!
Did you see the space marine 2 trailer?
I loved X-Wing. What killed it for me was the new edition requiring me to buy "conversion kits" for every one of my two dozen or so ships, which I was not willing to do.

Jay
Try Shapeways they have a group called pop goes the monkey. He produces a ton of shoulder symbols to use.
Oh please dude your an expert painter you don't have to worry about your paint job. I on the other hand as a 5 or 6 month noob oh yah I should worry.
Tell the Astra Militarum they keep all the models around. R.I.P. Armageddon Steel Legion, Valhallan Ice Warriors, Elysian Drop-Troops, Vostroyan Firstborn, Mordian Iron Guard, etc... LOL

Great video.
Xwing was the perfect game, but it got too heavy as it expanded. Which is the ultimate conundrum for game designers. They need to add more to make money and feed people's appetites, but hard to keep a system so clean.
Why is that Tau levitating a tiny office chair?
2nd Edition rules for X-Wing were pretty great, but I also just sort of walked away from the game. OI! ITS DA SPESS MAHREENS, KRUMP EM
Maybe, Dark Stryder (sp?) references his artificial feet, giving him a faster or quieter move, for recon purposes?
The main problem with the x-wing app is that it wasn't updatef punctually so people ended up consulting pdfs or 3rd party apps.
Foot fetish ppl gonna be all over this video 🤷♂️😂🐶

Maybe different T’au have different hooves? Some people have longer/shorter toes, some have bigger/smaller toenails.
But comparing them to bovids… cows, goats, sheep, bison, etc. also don’t have identically styled hooves.
I feel X-Wing’s decline was also hurt by the transition from FFG to Atomic Mass. -They just didn’t push it as much as they should’ve especially since they got rid of the original developers to the game as well as Armada. It’s not the sole cause but I do feel it contributed 🤷♂️
Based on the title all I can think of is "Chowdah this Tau fussy got me questioning my loyalty to the imperium of Man"
Space marine 2 does look cool
So did you decide to build/paint TAU?!
I'm down to see Sabine painted on the channel
-gruff voice- "Lost ma toes in tha war"
I felt that tired "how?!" a little too much... I'm gonna go lay down.
Thats Darkstrider not Farsight lol.
This is the real reason tau players use so many mechs, the toes are easier to understand.
An obsession with feet. Been watching too much Adeptus Ridiculous? Getting a little Doge Vandire there.
A little bit of tonic will make Gin work.
For me tau always had feet like the Sangheili/ Élites from Halo this one looks that had the fingers covered with a shoe...
Or actually had goat feet
Wait you're telling me that Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo dude, the Mario man, the guy who wants to play, isn't Japanese and is blue?
