i played this game when i was 8 years old on my ps2, i remember being so scared during the later stages of that mission when you fight in those bunkers, it was also so hard for me that i just couldn't do it, i tried many times but i was always too scared, i had to wait a couple of years to get rid of that fear and be able to play it. fun times and an absolute banger of a game, it definitely sparked the passion for history and especially world war 2 in my life
I would play this game with my father around the age 6 (which now I think about is the reason why I’m fucked up lol). Probably played through the game over 100 times
This is very appropriate for the D-Day landings aka Operation Overlord. Press F to pay your respects to those brave heroes who gave their lives on the Normandy beaches.
My Grandfather was a Scout on the first wave and somehow made it thru. Thankful for him. In a blink of an eye, I wouldn't be here. Strange to think about.
I was 14 when I played thjs game when it came out and was and still am a huge Saving Private Ryan fan. I played this mission probably hundreds of times. I pretended to be my grandfather during the war, though he was too young to join when Normandy took place and got to join in on the last year and a half of the war. I was sad the Battle of the Bulge wasn’t in that game because that’s the most infamous battle my grandfather fought in as a M2 .50BMG recon machine gunner. He was luckily not transferred to the Pacific Theater and was instead put on guard duty during the Nuremberg Nazi Tribunals, where they tried and convicted and executed Nazi war criminals. My father was right in the presence of Herman Göering, Rudolph Hess along other infamous surviving Nazi leadership by a matter of feet on a few occasions. That’s nuts, and I have 2 of his items from the war that I am pretty sure were on him while around those monsters: his guard pass/ID for the Nuremberg Tribunals and his dog tag which I have on my necklace with a nice pure silver replica I had made of it.
The good old days... when I'd buy Electronic Gaming Monthly, see release dates... and made sure to set that day aside (always tuesdays) to go to Game Stop and buy the ones I wanted... and make sure I had nothing else going that day. I remember passing this level... and replaying it several times before trying to pass the next ones. This was so good
Even though it's not a weapon in game many soldiers on D Day carried M1 Carbines, Most of whom who used them like the others were killed when the machine guns and artillery fired upon them that fateful day. Rest In Peace to those who lost their lives to preserve our freedom.
This still till this day is the most accurate representation of d day in a video game. No epic music in the background, no epic motivational speech from the commanding officer. Just straight forward orders and the sounds of war.
IMO this outdid the Allied Assault Omaha Beach bit. The technical limitations of the PS2 for whatever reason seems to have made EA get more creative. This has more character than the generic Allied Assault scene I feel.
One of my favorite games ever I beat it so many times I knew it like the back of hand lol I was speed running before I even knew what that was as a kid lol
Ah the year I really found Mary Jane and then would play this game when it came out. Opening scene after a few tokes helped you emerse yourself Into the game.
i think Call of Duty WWII is the best ww2 game ever made when it comes to design and story (horrible gameplay though, hitmarkers, rubber bullets in machineguns etc..) but this mission though.. It looks way better! cod used too much details actually.. here when he fist gets up from the water and you just see this huge empty beach with no cover that you have to walk over while two huge bunkers way back in the fog are spraying fire like hell right in front of you! They nailed this! Still the best looking d-day gameplay made to date!
Ah, I miss the logic at play in these old games where you inexplicably found ammo for weapons like the M1 Garand and the Tommy gun both on enemy troops and just lying around inside Nazi bunkers, and they just kept volatile explosive barrels sitting in convenient places for you to shoot them.
Still annoys me that right off the bat in the first mission , the remastered version Garand rifle looks stupid with this slight red tint to its color/colour. Mmmmeh!
Am I the only one that thinks the original graphics and sound mixing are better? The textures look both better and WAY worse, don't know really how to describe it, it just looks jankier than the original on gamecube... The lighting also looks weird and overexposed. IDK, IMHO this doesn't stand up to the original at all.
Lol in this game youre pretty much bulletproof it seems. You got blown up twice and those german MG gunners cant shoot for crap. But its the first mission and its on a console so I guess its fair

Wow, he actually uploaded it on D-day. Big respect to him and to those who were involved on D-day.
Sadly, there aren't very many veterans left from the time. In about a decade, they'll all be gone. :( RIP

Same! I had no idea what i was meant to do for weeks, until my dad walked in and told me to shoot the bunkers haha.

That is an insane opinion. I'll respect it, but wow I never thought I'd see the day that CoD: WaW and MoH: AA are overlooked story wise for CoD: WWII.
