LYRICS:
The mornin' sun touched lightly on the eyes of Lucy Jordan
In her white suburban bedroom, in a white suburban town
As she lay there 'neath the covers, dreaming of a thousand lovers
'Til the world turned to orange and the room went spinnin' round
At the age of 37, she realised she'd never ride through Paris
In a sports car, with the warm wind in her hair
And she let the phone keep ringin' as she sat there softly singin'
Pretty nursery rhymes she'd memorised in her daddy's easy chair
Her husband, he was off to work, and the kids were off to school
And there were oh so many ways for her to spend her day
She could clean the house for hours, or rearrange the flowers
Or run naked down the shady street screaming all the way
At the age of 37, she realised she'd never ride through Paris
In a sports car, with the warm wind in her hair
And she let that phone keep ringin' as she sat there softly singin'
Pretty nursery rhymes she'd memorised in her daddy's easy chair
The evening sun touched gently on the eyes of Lucy Jordan
On the rooftop where she'd climbed when all the laughter grew too loud
And she bowed and curtseyed to the man, who reached and offered her his hand
And led her down to the long white car that waited past the crowd
At the age of 37, she knew she'd found forever as they rode along through Paris
With the warm wind in her hair
Ooooohhh yes with the wind in her hair oooooohhhh.
How many times as women have we fought this battle. When I was 29 l set by my sterio with a bottle of valium in my hand and crying to make God let . me die. Well with 6 children l could not do that, their father took off and left me barely hanging on. Well I am going on 69 now and I raised my children, put them who wanted to go to college. I listened to Dr Hooks group in the very early 70's once again they helped me get through a bad divorce and l played everything l could find on them.
Thank you all for listening and may 🙏❤️ God bless them for the songs they sang and we were able to comfort ourselves.

I love this song and this man Dennis. 1969
Something like this happened to me on my 29 bday. I had a total breakdown. Nothing in life was going right.

I'm 67 years old first heard this song 50 years ago, still play it (and all Dr Hooks stuff) today. Only saw them once in Fairfield Halls Croydon. Still my favourite band, brings a tear to my eyes where have the years gone...
Have played this song all life married tto abusive alcoholic in my early twenties ..left him..have travelled in many many places in a sports car..with the wind in my hair ..and still am at 66..still playing it 😊
No one sings with quite the emotion like he does! He LIVES each song.
It's kind of a fine line between LIVING the song and being a bit overwrought. I kept waiting for the operator to break in and ask for forty cents more....
Way too much artifical drama for me. I prefer the versions of Marianne Faithfull.
@@Kansoganix A LOT of people mistakenly think hers was the original
I'm 72 and have followed Dr hook from the beginning, i would have loved to see them live, i used to think Dennis was the most sexiest man ever and I still feel the same today, love from Northern Ireland ❤
Great song! Dennis Locorriere has a wonderful voice! 👍
This would rate as an all time classic performance-outstanding -thank you so much Dennis !!!!!!!
What a voice !! Was blessed to have met Ray several times , and his son , also Don Francis . Personally , I think 1 of the most Under Rated bands of all times , SO Many Great songs , way more than the radio ever played . Carry me Carrie , no words . Soup stone , Millionaire Song . I could go on . Love Love LOVE This Band , in , all it's forms !!! Ps, I sound like Ray !!!
Got to agree with you. Thery never got the recognition they deserved. Especially right here in the U.S............i think they were actually appreciated more overseas.
I love the way Dennis plays and sings this song. His band is also great.
🥀Beautiful Sad Song amazing lyrics, vocals and music I love this song and this Man he's a natural story teller 🥀✌🥀☝️
There are lot of well known names in the music world, but Dennis has got the best voice, modulation and pouring emotions.
I just love to listen to Dennis Locorriere sing, he's now an older man but still such a good singer!!! This is such a sad song music is beautiful!
The most underrated performer ever. Just wonderful.
My God I love Marianne Faithful singing this and I have never heard anyone else sing it until today in 2022 and Dennis gives it a new meaning,,,absolutely beautiful 😍
Fantastic version. M
Denis's sang it so much better than anyone
You should heat the original that Dr Hook sang in 1974. It can be found on this channel. That one is EPIC.
Marianne Faithful. That's someone I haven't heard of in a long time and I too enjoyed her music very much, but I cannot remember her singing this song - I gotta check that out.
Dennis sang it way before MAF.
Dennis Locorriere has always been a favourite singer of mine. He has an iconic voice which is immediately recognisable. I enjoyed Dr Hook and they had cult status among many Europeans including my family but also lots of their friends who didn’t speak English! Music really is the international language.
I got introduced to Dr Hook back in the 70s while serving in the army in germany, bought all their music and listen to them all the time.
Is anyone on their own listening to this? I am!!!! Hope you enjoy as much as I do, xx
i am
Yep....me too for a long time
Yes, Fantastic
xo.
Susan Moore I am listening to it alone .
Ohhhh God! I love this Man... He is the artist of my life and this chanson is so wonderful. I will never forget of when I was a young boy and listened him singing on the band Dr. Hook. Your clear green eyes, you smile, your delicated make me completly crazy. I loved him and carried in my heart until today. Dennis, my love!!!
Such an honest and heartfelt rendition of one of the saddest yet beautiful songs ever written.
Loved dr hook for past 40 years … amazing !

75 now, always had a crush on this band, with the 3 chord you can easily play all there songs,but.....who sings like Dennis, who writes like Shell?Tnx for sharing this great gem.Koos from Amsterdam, the 3 chord hero.
Such a heart-wrenchingly beautiful version of this incredible song!! Such talent, amazingly haunting voice of Dr. Hook and Wow for Shel Silverstein who wrote it! What a magnificent multi-talented man he was! Could listen and watch over and over.
What a nerve - feeling alive and thoug🥰
Such an awsome voice makes it very emotional
Just read the story behind the song im still crying 😭
And he also wrote "Sylvia's Mother"
Great song sung by a great singer
I’m loving this Dr Hook cover of the Ballad of Lucy Jordon. Only they could have made such a brilliant success of this
He doesn't "cover" it. He did the original.
Such an incredible voice - so emotional and nobody sings better
I agree totally, got to see DR. Hook twice, and Dennis was so great...
OMG! Where are such artists today?
I am 69 yrs old and I am laying here 1am wishing l was at a concert watching Ray and Dennis. I am so sad over Ray's death. I pray that Dennis lives and sings for a long time.
Love J Botosanu.
I saw Dennis do a concert in his adopted home town of Worthing UK a couple of years ago. Brilliant!!

Lovely voice Dennis...!
Loved Dr Hook since the late 70s...Dennis has an amazing voice and sings with so much passion,,,,I'm stuck in the top end of Australia till my grandkids go to kinder...he played Darwin Sky City Casino last year.....best thing I"ve seen up here, the voice is still pure,,,thanks Dennis for making this place a bit more bearable
I listened to my mothers records when I was a kid during the 70's. Among them were Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, E.L.O., Kenny Rogers and Dr. Hook. Rediscovered them at the turn of the century, and listen to them still to this day. This was one of these songs. Thanks mom!
Sounds like your Mum had the same taste in music as me ❤️
Dr Hook are one of the most artistic bands of all time, maybe helped by Shel's brilliant lyrics/songs - they were classic and they loved performing - you must watch on U-Tube their performance in Shel's house boat, singing The Colonial Boy, and Carry me Carrie - absolute blasters - high as kites, as you need to be (so I am told!) when you sing so brilliantly.
His "Carrie Me Carrie" is superb !
Shel was a brilliant composer
Greatest voice of all time ~❤️~. ImStillHooked
+Cindy Rizzato Couldn't agree with you more Cindy. Has there ever been a band with a greater range of music than Dr.Hook? I certainly can't think of one. From the insanity of songs like FREAKERS BALL , GET MY ROCKS OFF, AND I CALL THAT TRUE LOVE , to hauntingly beautiful ballads like I NEVER GOT TO KNOW HER, I CAN'T TOUCH THE SUN , and STUCK ON THE WRONG SIDE OF LOVE,just to name a few. And to think that most people who have heard of Dr. Hook, have never heard most of these song. If they only knew what they were missing. It saddens me that Dr. Hook never received the recognition and respect that they so richly deserved. Count me also as "StillHooked".
xxxbarflyxxx Well said! I am still mesmerized by them.... after all these years. If I click on a song, I'm lost the rest of the night listening to all of their music. And yes, they so deserved that recognition and respect, I just don't understand why it didn't happen. Nice to meet a fellow Hook fan! :-)
+Cindy Rizzato
I FULLY AGREE WITH YOU .I AM ALSO A GREAT FAN OF THIS AMAZING GROUP . SYLVIA'S MOTHER ENGRAVED MY LIFE.
PROF.DR.P.E.PAPAGKIKAS
Procopios Papagkikas Yes indeed... they have a way of doing that. ♥
Cindy Rizzato 😇me too 🤖
The man still has it. awesome singer.
There are many days, one only can wrap oneself in the music of songs they are filled with empathic in musical notations. Often their is noone there who would share the feelings, but music of such talented singers at least, can dissolve the knot in ones throat. It is like a little warmth stroke ones heart even it is just for shorts minutes. How many Lucie Jordans and maybe "John Jordan"'s are living in these world? Maybe in my last seconds of life, I will and can remind mysellf of this comfort...
Dear Isabella - Perhaps one day, you really will ride through Paris, in a sportscar, with the warm wind in your hair! And guess who wants to be in the passenger seat? Well, I do, of course!
I was one of those Lucy Jordan's in the 1970s. So sad
So beautiful 😢
I’m 53 years old and can still remember the very first time I heard CANT GET MY PICTURE ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONES!!!! Yeah I can’t name every song they play but I do know I’ve enjoyed this band in the early 80s when everyone else was listening to Ozzy, Iron Maiden, scorpions, .......ect 🤘HEAVY METAL
Haunting. And beautiful 😍
What a beautiful rendition of this great Shel Silverstein song... He's really got a unique voice. Love it!
Dennis with his voice puts in his bluejeans packet people like Johnny Cash, Elton John, Mick Jogger, Phil Colin and most of his generation of musicians should agree that this wonderful voice is a unique !
They made the original recording. Still the best..
I don't care whether anyone else agrees with me or not but, this is THE definitive version of THAT classic Shel Silverstein song. Apologies to Marianne.
Astonishingly brilliant singer, band and song writer. I met Dennis at a local gig in Surrey England, a couple of years ago and asked why he didn't sing this song (fantastic great gig, by the way). He said that it was Marianne Faithful's song now. Although her version is terrific, and probablyy career -defining for her, this is different, and in my opinion better - although I love both of them. John
It's Dennis's version that I sing. Love it to bits.
First time I ever heard this was by Marianne Faithfull and I fell in love with it. I still love her, her version of this song and I love how he does it in this video. This is the first time I heard him do it, thought it was Mariannes song.
Best feeling in a song i ever hear
🦋Beautiful🦋Such a Powerful sad song it's beauty is this feeling I get from his deepest thoughts and his unique voice of the lyrics he's living 🥀✌🥀☝️
It's 68 years old you're still my favorite band 🤪💯🌹
I just recently discovered this song, and some of the few artists that recorded it....search them out, they all offer a new experience. Hook is fantastic, but Faithful drove me on to look further. Enjoy the trip.
An amazing song and an amazing voice.
this is such a beautiful song to appreciate. I don't think it matters who sings it as long as it's done correctly.
WOW! Dennis is a magnificent performer but then, we always new that. This is superb.
What a voice ,what a song and what a band amazing Talent ..love this.
I hope the group never never separates. They are magic together.
They are no longer, Ray Sawyer passed away in 12/31/2018.
But I know he is singing in God's choir now. He was 82 yrs old when he passed. I still sleep with him every 🌃 night. I love him so much ❤️💙💙😭. Jàcquie B
🥀Beautiful 🥀This song is so real and natural it's different but awesome🥀✌🥀☝️
You've got this song, you've got the Grim weeper to sing it. I you've got all these old guys to make the music. Their age and experience just make this thing next to perfect.
