I discovered Dr Hook in the 80s and have been a fan ever since. Got to see Ray's Dr. Hook in 2000ish(?) Fantastic live. I still have about 10 albums on Vinyl and I danced to Years From Now at my wedding. Ray, Dennis, Shel and the boys have brought me literally endless joy, and many tears, for many, many years. I remember making a cassette mix back in the day - Side 1 "The Dr. Is In" with the more love song stuff, and Side 2 "The Dr. Is Out", with the more off beat stuff like I Call That True Love, Millionaire, Lady Godiva, Marie Laveaux, I'll Kill You, Looking For..., etc.. Still listen to Dr. Hook monthly, if not weekly. 😊
Cayce and Amy, you must be so proud!

George Cummings WAS Dr. Hook. He named and started the band up in Jersey. He sat next to me on a train on 6/20/11 from Newark to North Carolina and he tuned up my acoustic guitar and we sand some Medicine Band songs and a few other songs and he let me sing " Freakers Ball" ( Shel Siverstein lyrics) as we serenaded everybody in our train car. Then he got off the train in North Carolina to play some golf the next day before heading to the Muscle Shoals recording studio. George pulled a flask out of his vest pocket and shared it with me inbetween songs. It was my first taste of TITO's vidka. I continued on home to New Orleans after being stuck in New Jersey for almost six years after Hurricane Katrina. He was a really nice guy but he couldn't stand Ray Sawyer at all...

@@DeboRah-bj8psI loved these guys from first time I heard them and they were my first favorite group, with albums I could play both sides and love almost everything. They were great till after the Bankrupt album, then elevator music. Just recently readiner notes, I found this was because, due to their first record label screwing them on concert expenses, after bankrupt dennis was offered soft rock contract with new backing musicians, and rest of group bought out, this was sellout/buyout of a great group, to easy listening music😢, for all you lovers of their early music raise your voices as a loss to greed by corporate mediocrity

Dr Hook & the medicine show officially shortened their name to just Dr. Hook in 1975. That was their working band name until they broke up in 1985.

Saw the band in 1974 at Six Flags Magic Mountain. They were okay -- their problem was that they were totally out of step with whatever trend was current, so they came off as a novelty act (with a secret weapon, the songs of Shel Silverstein). The Tubes came along and were in sort of the same position, but they had a more distinctive, contemporary sound -- and costumes.
