When I first played this mission on release, I constantly kept replaying the favela checkpoint to try to keep Meat & Royce alive until I realize that it wasn't possible. I was so disappointed. I've never felt so attached to game characters until this one.
Yep turning that corner they all die, i think if you take your eye off them they can auto die as well because the game actively wants Roach to be by himself

Yeah i put it in recruit difficulty to make them easier to kill enemies and defend them
For being elite special forces taken from other special forces units, they were truly unremarkable.
Thats the plot, they are humans, are not inmortals, the overpowered soldiers of 141 just are

The others are just secundarys.

@@JohnTheApexBaker True, the waltz in to a favela flooded with militia, split up and are picked off one by one. Like, Basic training in the military teaches you to never leave your battle buddy or wingman. Yet here these special forces go, making rookie mistakes. The Whole mission was to make soap look good.
The a.i. is actually inferior to standard enemies. The NPCs usually can't aim for shit outside scripted encounters. It's designed that way so the player does the work.
Considering these guys are SF, they probably aren't Privates.

KL is the first and last name initials. With the last 4 numbers more than likely being his last 4 of SSN or serial number.

So it is sorta tradition to wear a dead friends equipment: a watch, a patch,... Ghost even said in the comic that he wore the mask to honor a friend. Maybe Merlin had a aussie friend that met an unfortunate fate and he wear his cap to honor him
it's also not uncommon for the military to wear patches of other units. Participating in a multi national training exercise, I saw americans wearing patches of Aussies and Brits. Trading patches happens a lot.
I found it interesting that one level (and presumably not that much later chronologically) You spawn in The Hornet's Nest with a UMP instead of your ACR (With tons of ammunition, a different size to the ACR) and random NPCs that appear. I suppose plot wise it means you link up with another cell or four-man team elsewhere in the city also looking for Rojas/his associates.

I always wanted to be able to play as these and other generic characters in multiplayer! A lot of these characters look really cool and could have been given cool backstories!

I recently read a fic where it mention these two and idk how it manage to made me feel sad about them.
They are lit npc but I kinda love them all UnU
And they never made of far which was straight character assassination or maybe false advertising and believe me what was the point of those characters if they made it far

@@wordherb1128 I really hate the ranger missions in the first mw2 because of the characters it’s just when you play veteran difficulty you rage quit and not only that teammates do nothing to help you especially in areas you must defend and it’s one of the reasons why this franchise sucked nowadays
Yoo this bring back so many memories.. I remember I always used to save these two guys throughout firefight but they ended up getting killed somehow.. I wish IW could've gave them a longer screen time for the rest of the takedown mission.. they're same as scarecrow and ozone from the loose ends

Who would have thought that the remastered MW2 would not come out with the demands they made of Activision until it came out on April 30, 2020 in the middle of the pandemic.
The game was epic, nothing changed, only the realistic graphic quality 😁
Poorly done details in the original, logos on the clothing and more; On the other hand, the remastered did take the details of the environment and people seriously, I would like to see details of all of MW3 in its remastered

You can save both Meat and Royce by using an out of map glitch. Strangely, you can trigger the final chase scene even by bypassing this place.
Codm Soap takedown skin is too bulky compared to the remastered sleek look.

I’m pretty sure the different patches are probably their nationalities. Task force 141 has different countries (like soap and price being British/Scottish) so it’s likely the different countries patches are just from what military they are from

Remastered Royce is actually what I remembered Royce looked like, Ethan Hawke face type, when I first played the mission. While Meat is the one with the hat.
By the way, do a Cliffhanger Noclip. We would like to see the Marsoc at the end of the mission.

@@MajorAlex yeah it’s like what was the point of us emotionally invested in them and what was the point of them then this is not the call of duty I once knew since 2003 I do not want to bond a character who is about to die early or late in each title especially a character WHO WAS JUST INTRODUCED IN THE SAME TITLE THEY JUST CAME IN ICONIC RECURRING OR NOT I am sorry I shouted but the sickening fact that characters are being treated like dirt forgotten and all of that was given to a character was for nothing such as being in box art promos marketing trailers magazines etc and for what shock value most of those deaths are cheap and pointless and they make cheapest and hilarious deaths in other games and movies look good and they lead to some hilarious internet memes by people who played those titles as they tried their best to make them bearable enjoyable and cooler

I saved both of them one time in og version. 🎉 But they both didn't come with me. They stayed at that corner. Scripted sniper or rpg didn't activate. ❤

@@usadroopymeat1099 I suspect that each mission was supposed to be a suicide mission for the entire task force. If you read into it, it feels like Shepard was trying to get TF141 killed really early on. Think about it, after they capture Rojas they try to call in for extract that is conveniently unavailable, they have to ask Nikolai for help. Then in the gulag, the bombardment starts early and almost traps Soap, Roach and Price inside. Every mission they're sent on goes wrong in a major way and only by a combination of luck and skill do they keep surviving. Shepard was trying to kill them off from the start.
@@SpencerBurkett either way and the second era of cod titles 2007 to 2012 it’s like why bother with those characters if they just dead weight and why emotionally invested on them and to add salt on the wound used them like disposable tools because cod developers and publishers kept introducing characters put them in marketing promos box art trailers etc just to sell their titles and kept getting away scot free false advertising character assassination 101 and lazy writing to spice things up
