Hey mate I’m trying to work out if the rattle I’m hearing is the timing chain on my MPS. Mine is a constant rattle though and I’m told by the folks of reddit that it sounds just like the timing chain hitting the valve cover. The amount of slack in yours, that’s normal you’re saying? I’m gong to feel it tomorrow through the oil cap and if it seems loose I’ll take the valve cover off and see if it’s been hitting so I’m just trying to establish a baseline for how it should feel.

From what I know and understand its normal for the chain to have slack when off due to it being tightend with the build up of oil pressure but dont take my word for it, mine is the exact same at 147,000kms slight rattle on start up for a about 1.5 seconds, i think if it rattles say 2 seconds or more it is definetly stretched.

Let me know how it goes whether you find out its streched or not, best of luck mate.

@@jackj954 The Timing chain was not streched at all. Thats normal. When you turn the engine to top dead center the chain is not streched. I put the new chain over the old one and they were the same length. I think you need to change the chain when the engine rattles more than 3-4 seconds when you turn it on when its cold.
