I watched a different video installing it but didn’t show to time it. It’s no wonder I still have rpms surge. Had to buy this tool, thank you guys keep rocking🔥
Good video to let you know what your in for. Not too difficult but things are more difficult when the engine is in the car. You cant easily see the teeth when the engine is on the car. I rotated the crank until i saw the gap. counted back 10 and made a mark. Turned again and counted 10 of the mark for 20. You can then see the mark when you align over the sensor.
very good guys i'm buying one tomorrow and they say may have timing chain issue however it has 300 thousand miles on it must be hwy miles so may be back for more info
Wouldn't hurt to go ahead and replace the timing chain with that amount of miles tbh. These engines are nearly bulletproof otherwise. I've seen quite a few exceed 600k miles!
Hey guys love your channel it's helped me a lot .the question I have is I have a 2007 Mazda 5 2.3L the harmonic balancer has the larger teeth on it .if I line it up with a tooth it will be the 11th tooth or do I put it between 10 &11 thanks
This helped me replace the Crankshaft sensor after a stall on the motorway. Unfortunately now the car only starts when cold (after a day), runs smooth for a few minutes then throws P0340 ( camshaft sensor fault ). Replaced sensor ( same symptom) . Checked cabling, voltages, etc, all seems fine. On the same voltage rail I have the O2 sensor and MAF, I`m running out of patience with this vehicle.
Have replaced timing, no joy, I have square wave at 0.6v from Camshaft sensor, square wave at 5v from Crankshaft sensor, yet the car would not start and throw the code. Tested the sensor on the bench and supplied with 12v it outputs 0.6v when away from metal and 0 when close - so it's not the sensor. Time to dig deeper
I hope this video will help me to start my Mazda GH 2.5. crankshaft sensor was changed but car still doesn't work. There's any faults and didn't even check engine light on
if you were the one putting on that harmonic balancer and the new timing chain and you did it that way you might be wrong because top dead center could have been on an exhaust stroke..you need to look at the position of the cams also to make sure it's a compression stroke top dead center not an exhaust stroke
No need to do that.. The crankshaft pulley has a alignment hole. The hole should be in the 6 o'clock position as in the video. There is nothing about 20th tooth. Cps should be on the nearest tooth. Done deal
The cam should be turning 1/2 speed of the crank. You could be 180 degrees out on the cam or as he said "exhaust stroke" unless of course this engine is 1 to 1 rotation crank to cam somehow@@JD-ml7cg
I didn’t even use the alignment tool, if you go over 20 teeth to the left from the gap, and line up the 20th tooth on center with the sensor, it will be fine. The car runs really smooth, you can balance rocks on top of it.
very good video. I make a query. I have a Mazda Speedy 2009 2.3 L. I have to change the steering pump, but I can't find it. do you know if the pump of the cx-7 2009 is compatible or the one of the Mazda 6 2.3L.
Absolutely can. So can the camshaft position sensor. More likely than not though it's just the coil packs. They're prone to going bad on these because of the way they're designed. Can get 4 brand new Bosch ones from Rockauto for roughly 90 bucks. They have a lifetime warranty as well! They're far more reliable than the ones you can get at autozone or oriellys. Those never last me more than a year or so and even then I've had some have small hardly detectable misfires brand new. Made for BAD gas mileage though. I was down to nearly 10mpg
Thanks for the video. I have this same engine you are working on in my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. The car will start up; run great for one second then immediately die. If you try it again it will do the same; start then die. The engine check light is not on and there are no fault codes. Anyone have any ideas?
@@zuttoish It doesnt matter. The crank sensor tells the pcm when the piston is at tdc. The crank will have the same position either its on compression or exhaus stroke. The camshaft position sensor tells the computer the cam position (which defines the stroke via the valves).
I have a question, you said in another video that you have to count 22 spaces to have the time for the cranshaft sensor, now you say 20, could you tell me he much spaces are to fin this sensor?

I just changed serpentine belt on Mazda 5 2012 and it’s running rough on de-acceleration. I turned crackshaft pully to walk belt on and now those symptoms. Could it be timing from me turning crankshaft or separate issue?
I can’t remember but I had it going shortly after writing this. I think it was that magnetic thing you see in video needed in the right teeth. Very helpful bro, I have a similar engine, Mazda Atenza and after rebuilding it I was able to rotate the cranckshaft but after mounting on the torque converter along with the transaxle I could not rotate the crankshaft anymore, do you have any idea bro on what could be the problem? Thank you.
If your torque converter doesn't get seated all the way into the trans, then it will contact the flywheel and get pinched when the engine and trans are bolted together. I'm guessing this was the problem for anyone else that has this issue.
